Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Freed!!
"Hey you!, Get up!! Someone is here to take you." said the woman, rather polite than usual. "M...me?" She stammered, confused, and panicked. What were they going to do with her now. Miserable! miserable life!!
"Do you wanna dwell here girl? Pack up and meet me in the office." Mrs. Shina, the woman, said, she seemed relieved. Of course, who wouldn't, the girl was hated by everyone. She hastily packed up and trembled as she made her way into the office.
"Oh my", there was another voice, then she turned my direction to find a woman sitted across the room, lowering her spectacles to take a better view. 'creepy woman' she thought. She swallowed saliva in her throat, and stared at the floor. It was like her norm to do that when around people.
She said nothing more, and signed some papers that Mrs. Shina gave her. " Its time Mia Bexley, go." Mrs Shina said, as if relieved from a huge burden. "B..b..bu...buttt..where?" she stammered, shocked. Did they decide to kick her out into the streets?
"Home", the woman with spectacles answered smiling. Mia looked at the woman, who had been observing her.
She had dark brown eyes.
She wore a simple dress, and flat shoes, her eyes matched her dark brown hair.
She seemed to be in her mid-thirties, with wrinkles on her forehead.
Before Mia could go, She stared at the place she grew up since she was a baby. Though she was treated like trash, abused, scolded and even insulted by nearly everyone, she considered it home and everyone like her family.
She took still deep breaths as a tear trickled down her chubby cheeks.
" its okay, let it all out", the woman said, then held her hand. She flinched at her action, because no one touched her, unless when she was being whipped during her punishment.
Mia quickly pulled away, "Aren't you scared of me?!!" she asked,. Her sound came like a whisper. She gazed into the woman's eyes but didn't say a word.
As they walked out of Mrs Shina's office, other kids stared at her. There was no pleasant memory she could keep with her ever since she found herself here. She didn't even know how she ended up there.
Their muffled murmurs became louder, then something unexpected happened. The spectacles lady held my hand again, this time firm. Someone would picture them as mother and daughter.
All the kids seemed so shocked.
"Where is she going?" some would say, as the others shrugged in disgust. Many just gazed with scornful eyes, green with envy that she was adopted first.
Mia covered my face with her oversized hoodie. It was sort of her habit, to prevent anyone from getting scared of my face. Or whatever they usually get scared about.
As the woman and Mia Bexley walked out of the building, everyone followed them with their eyes as if staring at ghosts. It was quite an unbelievable scene.
Mia was so scared, she didn't want to leave. The 13 years of her life was spent at that dreadful building. That only place she called home being an introvert and kids calling her 'weirdo granny'. That was actually her nickname they just made up.
"You are now free darling, free as a bird", the woman told Mia, as she smiled sweetly at her.
She helped Mia carry her belonging to her fairly rusty black car. The windows were so dark that no one could see inside clearly.
Unexpectedly the inside of the car was clean and in good condition, it looked new in the inside, and also had a fresh scent.
She drove off at a lightning pace, but Mia was oblivious. She left the building!! It was a dream come true!
'Free, free as a bird' rang in her ears throughout the drive. Yes Mia was finally free....
She wouldn't just trust the spectacles lady, of course, as she did not trust anyone at the orphanage. She went through hell, she thought she was always different because of her looks.
She wondered why the spectacles lady didn't seem, scared of her.
'She is gonna torture me at her house.' she thought.
