Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Remorse
After getting to a far enough distance from the battle grounds, the group set up camp there as they had to rest for the night while hoping they wouldn't face any more ambushes.
However while most were conversing with laughs and smiles, Adrian sat on a log with a severe expression on his face and he looked as if he was contemplating something.
'Was I wrong to kill him? But if I didn't he would have killed me and Izuna. Could I have simply disabled him? Maybe he simply went to the Pure Lands since the afterlife is real here.'
Adrian was not some assassin or serial killer in his past life. He was simply a normal guy who lived an average life until his death. So having to take another life was not a simple affair that he could just act like didn't bother him.
'Maybe I'm not fit to be in a world like this, where it's kill or be kill.'
However before he continued his thoughts, he saw someone sit beside and was surprised to see it was Izuna.
"What's wrong with you Adrian, you've been looking sad ever since the battle occurred." he asked while concerned about his new friend.
"When was your first kill?" Adrian asked suddenly, catching Izuna by surprise as he wasn't expecting such a question.
"My first kill??" Izuna asked again for clarification.
"Yeah." Adrain responded.
Izuna finally realized what was bothering Adrian as a sad smile came onto his face before he responded by saying.
"My first kill happened when I was 4. I was with one of my brothers as we had to take supplies to a group that had set up camp around 4 kilometers from our compound. Along the way we came upon an injured man who seemed to be dying.
I wanted to leave him but my brother had a heart that was too kind for his own good, so he decided he wanted to help the man. We helped give him first aid and my brother used the small amount of medical ninjutsu he knew to help the man heal.
The man then finally started waking up, making my brother smile in relief that he was able to save him
The man awoke and seemed to be quite grateful for us saving him. However, that changed as soon as he saw the Uchiha Clan symbol on our clothes.
Before we could even react, he grabbed my brother's kunai out of his weapon holdster and stabbed him in the throat.
However it seemed he was still quite injured from his wounds since he coughed up blood as soon as he stopped. I took advantage of that and used the kunai I still had by running at him and plunging it into his chest.
My brother was already dead the moment he was stabbed, so I turned towards the man with tears dripping down my face. I asked him why he would do that, why kill the people who saved you.
All he did was laugh while bleeding out before saying that it was my foolishness of being an Uchiha and deciding to heal a Senju.
I didn't feel regret about my first kill, I felt regret about the fact that I lost someone important to me because I didn't kill him from the start.
After that however it stopped since I made a goal for myself, if I'd have to kill others to protect what is dear to me, then I'd kill as many people as it took."
After hearing what Izuna said, Adrian thought about it to himself, and had to agree.
'I'm not someone who wants to change the world, nor someone who wants to make peace or unify the Shinobi World, all I want is to protect my family. So if I have to kill to do that, then it is simply something that I will have to do.' Adrian thought to himself.
He then turned towards Izuna with a smile, before saying "Thank Izuna, I needed that. And sorry about your brother."
"It's fine, after all I still have someone I can protect." he said while looking towards Madara who was laughing while talking to the group.
The two sat in a comfortable silence as the sun set behind them, with both young boys having a strengthened resolve to protect those they love.
