Chapter 1: Well that happened....
Tanna looked around, 'Wait a minute. Why and how am I in a forest? I was heading to my cousin's wedding, wasn't I?'
Tanna looked down and fussed around her luggage, 'Okay, the jewelry I am supposed to wear is here. My papers and clothes too, thankfully.... Why is it in Nihongo? Why do I look fourteen? I turned fourteen? At least I can read it... '
Tanna heard something coming from ahead and stood up, "What is going on? I guess I will find out. Let's see, I think I heard voices from that direction.... What the?"
Tanna stared at the sight before her, which was a mountain that looked like a copy of Mt Rushmore but instead of the Presidents it was the heads of familiar fictional characters she read about. Tanna wanted to sigh and bang her head, maybe this was all an elaborate dream and she was in a coma and looked around. She found a tree and banged her head against it instantly regretting it as she clutched her head as pain seared through her. She vent down rubbing her head muttering curses under her breath that would prompt her grandma to wash her mouth if she were there.
Tanna, "Okay, enough dilly dallying. Let's just get to it. I can break down later on, once I get a room."
Tanna went to what looked like a gate and signed in showing her ID to the shinobi who were sitting there. She tried not to stare at them and kept her eyes on the register only looking up to ask about where the inns are located. The shinobi smiled and informed her there were around six inns in the West side, which was apparently where she was at the moment. Tanna thanked her and she must have looked tired or something because they were looking at her with a bit of worry. The shinobi said she should go to the hospital to get them to look at the bruise on her head.
Tanna, "I... Thank you but I don't know where the hospital is."
Shinobi, "Hey Yugao, why not take this new visitor to the hospital? You were saying you were bored."
Yugao, "Whatever Murata. Hello, follow me I will take you to the hospital and show you all the inns so you don't get lost."
Tanna, "Thank you. I appreciate it."
Yugao, "Are you alright?"
Tanna, "Fine, I am fine. Well, not really but I will be."
Yugao nodded and then started pointing out the inns as they walked through the village pointing out the inns, the orphanage and finally the hospital. Yugao talked to a nurse that she seemed to be friends with which was interesting to Tanna as there was not much written about her in Naruto. Well, at least nothing beyond Hayate's lover and fiance which was a little disappointing because she had to be one of the prettiest women she had seen. Tanna thanked her and complimented her looks, she was sure the kunoichi blushed a bit but she was already sitting and a nurse was checking her bruise.
Nurse Kimiko, "Did you hit something hard earlier? Or were you attacked?"
Tanna sighed deciding to be blunt, "I was in denial and hit my head."
Yugao blinked, "Why?"
Tanna, "My family is gone, I am alone."
Kimiko was sympathetic, "I see. I am sorry for your loss. You will be okay. The bruise will be gone in a few days, do be careful."
Tanna, "Yeah."
Yugao helped the teen who was only a few months younger than her check out before saying the kunoichi had to return to her post again. Tanna thanked her again as the teen kunoichi left, she was sure the shinobi was around the same age as she was at the moment. Now, wasn't that a doozy? She was a thirty year old just a few hours ago and all of a sudden she is fourteen again, which raises so many questions. At least she did not end up like that one transmigration who was stuck as a literal four year old with only a laptop to his name. Yeah, she would have seriously broken down and screamed if that had happened to her.
Tanna looked at the darkening sky, "Let's go find a place to stay the night."
Tanna walked to the closest inn, which was near the orphanage when she heard a loud commotion, 'What is going on? Should I interfere? Let's avoid emotions till I cannot avoid them.'
A woman, "Get out demon!"
Tanna, "Hey! What are you doing?"
The woman sneered at the child, "This thing is not welcome here."
Tanna deadpanned, "Excuse me? This is an orphanage, is it not? I would say the adults do not belong there, children do."
The woman huffed, "He is no child he is a demon."
Tanna felt disgust in her stomach and she wanted to hurl, "Well, you cannot just throw children out. There are rules I believe."
The woman snorted, "No one cares."
Tanna finally snapped, "Fine, I will adopt him since you are obviously incapable of being a responsible adult to this child."
The woman stormed inside and came out with papers, "Sign them and take him, if you dare."
Tanna, "I fucking will."
Tanna muttered curses in Hindi, Mandarin and Korean as she signed the papers and took the baby blond with her, "Idiotic adults."
The little blond giggled, "Yeah."
Tanna went directly to the nearest inn, "Hello a room for me and my brother, please."
The innkeeper looked at her, "Ah, of course, young miss."
Tanna took out cash thanking her stars at the change, "Will this cover for three days and three nights?"
The innkeeper's eyes glowed, "Yes, and cover dinner, breakfast and lunch."
Tanna nodded looking at his nameplate, "How long till dinner, Kusabe - san?"
Kusabe, "It will be in half an hour."
Tanna, "We will have it in our room. It has been a long journey."
Kusabe nodded, "Of course, young miss, I understand. Welcome to Konoha."
Tanna went to the designated room and closed the door, 'For once I am thankful for formal and strict dress code. I can't believe I am thankful for it. Yeesh!'
The blond shuffled, "Ano! Nee - chan, are we really siblings?"
Tanna, "Oh right? I was so focused on getting you away from the witch we did not introduce ourselves, did we? I am Chirrinki Tanna, your new sister."
The blond gave a bright smile, "Uzumaki Naruto, nice to meet you nee - chan."
Tanna, "Nice to meet you too. Let's clean up the dirt on you and me first. Do you know how to use the bathroom? I can make sure there is hot water."
Naruto, "Bath? But baths are cold."
Tanna, 'Oh I should have strangled that witch.'
Tanna, "I promise you baths are fun. How about we share a bath then? You will not regret it."
They had to wait ten minutes for the bath water in the adjoining bathroom to warn up and Tanna introduced Naruto to a proper bath. Tanna had to fight to keep the anger out of her expression, she knew orphanages could be run by corrupt idiots but come on, at least be subtle about it. Naruto seemed to enjoy the bath bubbles and laughed as he played while Tanna cleaned his hair and later dried him with a towel from the inn. Tanna took out a shirt that was too large on Naruto but would act like a night shirt on the child and just as they dressed up, their dinner came. The innkeeper's daughter served them with onigiri, tomato salad and boiled eggs, odd combination but she was not complaining.
Tanna, "Here Ruru, this plate is yours."
Naruto, "All of it."
Tanna, "Yes, make sure to finish it ok? We are going to sleep after dinner so no food till morning."
Naruto nodded and ate everything while Tanna made a few observations. One, it did not look like everyone recognized Naruto or at least the innkeeper did not. Two, she really needed more money, perhaps she should sell some of the jewelry she had with her to get some. Three, Naruto is just so adorable at this age, no wonder Mikoto tried so hard to adopt him. Four, wonder how long it would take till anyone noticed Naruto was adopted, she would deal with it then. Fifth she was really tired from the emotional whip lash, from realizing she was alone to anger at the child's treatment to becoming a sister.
Tanna, 'Enough thinking sleep.'
Naruto woke up surrounded in warmth the next day, 'Ah! I need to wake up before Machiko - san gets angry. Huh?'
Tanna woke up feeling the movement, "Mn.. Good morning outoto. You are up early."
Naruto, "Nee - chan, you are real."
Tanna, "Sadly yes, I am real and you are stuck with my lazy ass."
Naruto giggled, "You are not lazy nee - chan, you are nice."
Tanna checked her wrist watch, "It is only five in the morning, Ruru, get some sleep, we have a long day later."
Naruto, "Okay."
Later on around six both of them decided they could not sleep anymore and ordered breakfast while Tanna opened her suitcase and they washed up. After breakfast Tanna took out the box of jewelry and looked at it with a contemplative gaze, it consisted of pearl jewellery that she had brought with her own money. Plus the silver and gold jewelry that her grandparents had gifted her over the years during graduations, birthdays and when she got her first job. Her grandparents really enjoyed one upping each other and she thanked them mentally for the treasure with her right now. Naruto was looking at the jewelry curiously as he sat on her lap while she took out the ruby and gold necklace with earring and bracelet set.
Tanna put everything else back inside, "Let's go find a jewelry shop Ruru. I wonder if, I know I will take my purse with me. All my essential papers will be there with the important stuff."
Naruto, "Okay nee - chan but why?"
Tanna, "I am going to try and make more money for us. My family is not with me anymore so it is up to me as the older sibling to care for us."
Naruto, "Oh! Can I help?"
Tanna "Not right now but soon. For now, you will come with me and if there is a park nearby you are going to make new friends. I bet that ugly witch in the orphanage kept the other children from becoming your friends."
Naruto winced and nodded but smiled as Tanna picked him up and went outside, both of them greeting the innkeeper. Kusabe nodded in return and the two looked around outside as Tanna carried Naruto in her arms, they got some curious looks but nothing beyond that. As they went around Tanna found a park with young children and a jewelry shop across it, what luck! Tanna thanked whatever Kami was watching over them for the lack of trouble so far and placed Naruto down. Naruto looked around a little curiously and noticed there were children his age and older.
Tanna, "I am going to that shop there okay. If you need anything just come find me in there."
Naruto nodded, "Alright nee - chan."
Tanna, "Go make new friends and play with them. That ugly witch is not here to ruin it for you."
Naruto beamed, "You are right nee - chan. I will make new friends. Just see."
Tanna went to the shop, "Excuse me, I am here for business."
One of the assistants approached her, "How may we help you Miss?"
Tanna took out the box holding the jewelry, "I need an appraisal done for this set and a price for it."
The assistant's eyes gleamed on seeing the ruby set, "Oh? It looks too shiny to be real."
Tanna deadpanned, "Is that so?"
Assistant, "As for the price, around twenty thousand."
Tanna, "You must be joking."
Before the assistant could say more a voice cut in, "Oh my goodness! I have not seen such fine cut ruby or design before."
The assistant stuttered, "Ma... Madam Shijimi, welcome."
Tanna, "Hello ma'am. I am selling this set."
Madam Shijimi gasped, "The whole set?"
Tanna, "Yes ma'am. This piece has been lying around in my family's vault collecting dust. So I decided to sell it. But it seems it is fake, according to the assistant here, no wonder it was lying around."
Madam Shijimi was furious, "Are you lying to this young Lady here? How dare you! Who do you think you are?"
The owner came rushing out and it was quite the spectacle that Tanna witnessed revel in front of her with the Madam scolding the owner and workers. Tanna just decided to stay out of it, she had read about stories or rather fanfics where Madam Shimiji was a terrifying force of nature. Reading and witnessing were completely different things however and Tanna could admit to being a little terrified of the woman. After Madam Shimiji had properly scolded the owner and the workers she finally turned to the young lady with the curious eyes.
Madam Shijimi, "Young Lady, if you are still interested in selling that set, may I buy it from you?"
Tanna, "Of course Ma'am. It would be a pleasure selling an item to the Daimyo's beautiful wife."
Madam Shijimi laughed, "Such a sweet mouth you have. My little niece will look beautiful in this set. Here is the full amount."
Tanna took the check and her eyes bulged, "Ma'am this amount for one set is too much."
Madam Shijimi, "Consider it an apology for how one of my citizens almost tricked you out of money. Now, come, I will join you to the bank to ensure nothing like this happens again."
Tanna, "Thank you for your kindness. I should pick my little brother up first."
Madam Shijimi observed the foreigner as she called for her younger brother who jumped into her arms happily. The siblings looked nothing like each other but who was she to complain about looks, chakra was just strange that way. But still the young teen had the most curious colours, one of her eyes were brown but the other was black and her hair it went from black at the roots to brown at the tips. Her clothes were a simple skirt and top but one look could tell they were a good quality and that watch, Madam Shimiji brought one for her husband not long ago.
Madam Shijimi hummed, "The bank is this way young ones."
Tanna, "Coming."
Naruto, "Hello, thank you for helping my sister. You are like a hero."
Madam Shijimi melted at the bright smile, "Of course, I would not allow someone to trick such a lovely girl. Now, let's get you both sorted."
Madam Shijimi was welcomed very respectfully by the bank and under her eyes the check was changed into money. Tanna got an account opened for herself and a savings account for Naruto only to learn Naruto's parents had created one for him before their death. Madam Shijimi was all smiles as she said this was all under her personal jurisdiction to which the people in the bank nodded. It was not the first time the eccentric Madam had taken an interest in another person and the foreigner was eye catching with her colours.
Madam Shijimi, "Well I better get going now my sweet children. Let us meet again once you have both settled down yes?"
Tanna, "I would love that ma'am."
Naruto, "She is really nice."
Tanna, "She is the Fire Daimyo's wife. Let's go get some clothes for you and then lunch."
Naruto, "Okay."
Naruto regretted agreeing to get clothes after ten minutes as Tanna and the very enthusiastic clothe owner dressed him up in different outfits. Naruto whined after two hours about hunger and Tanna nodded paying for four different hoodies, five T - shirts and pants, six underwear, three footwear. After that they went to get lunch while Tanna took the courier service and had the clothes sent to the inn room. The two returned to the inn for a nice bath and lunch before Tanna took out some papers about houses on sale. Naruto was telling her about who he played with and the nice Uchiha Lady who was happy to share candy with him.
Tanna blinked, 'Nice Uchiha Lady? Could it be Mikoto?'
Naruto, "Sasuke talked a lot about his Itachi - nii and how he is a strong shinobi."
Tanna, 'Ah! It was Mikoto. Should we approach her? She was one of the few who cared about baby Naruto. Decisions, decisions.'
Naruto, "Sasuke's mom invited me to their home at the end of the week."
Tanna, "Did you say yes?"
Naruto, "I said I will think about it and ask you first."
Tanna, "Hm... We can go. Having friends is a good thing."
Naruto, "Yay! It is my first time going to a friend's home."
Tanna chuckled as he looked at the housing details on paper, it would be nice to buy both house, land and pay off the land tax in one full go. In the beginning she was planning on getting an apartment for two of them but now thanks to Lady Shijimi's donation she could get it all done. The only problem was choosing the house, there were a couple good ones, she would need to check the water and electricity supply. The next few days till the invite, they spent it in the park in Naruto's case and talking to the real estate agent in Tanna's case. The real estate agents had heard about the foreigner that Lady Shijimi was interested in and were happy to help.
Tanna, 'Okay, let's get this done first. You can do it Tanna. You got your own place in your old world where the ecomomy is already bloated. You can do it here too.'
The real estate agent greeted her, "Hello young Miss Tanna. Welcome to Fire Country Housing."
