Chapter 4: Adoption
"Uwaa!"
"Uwaa!"
I made weird faces to Sasuke, but his crying went louder. All of this is the fault of Fugaku's face.
"Father, I can handle him."
I sighed.
"Itachi, perform Fireball Jutsu for Sasuke to watch."
And Itachi did that, making a very large fireball jutsu. And Sasuke immediately stopped crying. Finally.
"Itachi, what do you think about the attack? Do you believe that Kyuubi was killed?"
After hesitating for a bit, Itachi shaked his head saying no. As expected, Itachi was good in logical intelligence, but severely deprived in emotional intelligence. Fugaku thought that everyone was born equal, with some exceptions, aside from the economical and environment conditions. Those who were more intelligent generally lacked the ability to recognise their emotions correctly. Openheimer was one prime example.
"Itachi, either a descendant of Madara or someone from Uzumaki clan who stole a Sharingan was the culprit, and he is most likely alive. Keep in mind to never trust the upper echelon. One of them must have been colluding with him to get the crucial information."
"Huh?"
I sensed Shisui and Kakashi coming, so I stopped talking about the subject.
"I will talk to you later. Keep Sasuke and your mother safe."
He looked at me, clearly confused, but nodded.
"You called Fugaku-sama?"
"Yes. Shisui, call for a clan meeting. Kakashi, you must attend this too."
"Me too?"
"Yes. Because of your Sharingan. I have a suspicion about the assailant of the attacker, and you must attend this too. Afterall, since Minato is no longer here, you are no longer safe from Sharingan coveting people. You must know what is to come."

After some time, in a make shift tent, all people with three tomoe Sharingan arrived, along with-
"Fugaku, what is this outsider doing here?"
An old clan elder asked, what everyone must be thinking as well.
"I will tell about that. But first, I must tell you the outcome of the Emergency meeting. Shikaku Nara, Orochimaru and Jiraya are now Hokage's advisor, and Tsunade Senju as potential Hokage candidate. Until then, Third Hokage will act as a temporary head."
Many wanted to ask why Fugaku himself wasn't a Hokage candidate, but since Kakashi was present, they refused to show their inner thoughts.
"And the assailant of the attack is most likely alive. This was not an accident, but a planned disaster, one which one of the upper echelon is involved in."
"What!?"
"What are you saying!?"
"Are you serious!?"
Kakashi remained silent, but several emotions must have been going on in his heart.
"Yes. The Jinchuriki's delivery location was only known to Minato, and Third Hokage and his advisors. Not even Mikoto, who was her best friend. Kushina herself didn't know the location. And the assailant was either a descendant of Madara, or someone from Uzumaki clan who wanted revenge against Konoha, who had stolen a Mangekyo Sharingan."
"That-"
"-Mangekyo-"
"-Sharingan!?"
"Sigh. We all saw the sharingan pattern in Kyubi's eyes. And only a Mangekyo Sharingan with massive chakra can control it for so long. As we all know, Uzumakis have the highest and most potent chakra. Konoha abandoned them, and we only received the information that they were attacked after they were exterminated. There is no way the Upper echelon wouldn't have known that three villages were attacking at the same time, with their Kages and Jinchurikis.
Some must have survived and would have wanted revenge. If Kakashi can handle Three tomoe Sharingan with some his tiny chakra in comparison to Uzumaki, they must be able to handle Mangekyo for a long time, and even wipe out their identity from Minato's mind.
Plus, I heard from my late father that Uzumakis and Senjus are related to us Uchiha in some way. So this theory has a very good chance of being true. And if it is false, then it is a descendant of Madara when he left the village.
And even more-"
"There's more!?"
"Yes. All these things were just my suspicions before. But when Hokage proposed to relocate our clan to outskirts and give our land to Sarutobi and Shimura clan, I became clear about one thing. After Uzumaki and Senju, we are the next target."
"Fugaku, talk about this later, but first tell why Kakashi is here. This should all be discussed without any outsider."
"Yes elder. We will have to put our pride aside for some time, and ask for help of Hyuga and Jiraya for developing something like a Caged Bird seal for protecting the Sharingan. But without the features that makes it a slave seal. We must protect our Sharingan.
And since Minato is no longer with us, Kakashi will become a target of greedy, or even the assailant. To protect the Sharingan, we must adopt Kakashi into the clan. I know he is an outsider for you, but we promised to never force Kakashi to destroy the Sharingan one of our own willingly gave. I ask you all to please give me the consent of adopting him in the clan and accept him as one of our own."
Fugaku bowed his head, shocking Kakashi. For a proud clan like Uchiha, adopting a person from outside the clan is unheard of.
But Kakashi understood the hidden meaning behind Fugaku's request. It's either Kakashi be adopted, or he will be forced to give up Obito's Sharingan. With how fiercely Hyuga clan protected their dojutsu, and now Uchiha turning like them after the Kyuubi attack, it was clear that Kakashi didn't have any other option. Neither did the Uchiha clan if they want to uphold their promise.
Kakashi, who has just lost Minato-sensei and Kushina, who he was guarding, the possibility of the assailant still roaming around awakened a strange feeling inside him.
Emo Kakashi was born.
"I will allow it."
One of the elders said, while stroking his white beard. He was skilled in politics. And he raised his evaluation of Fugaku. If the student of Forth Hokage was adopted in the Uchiha clan, and a skilled ninja like Kakashi, it will be very beneficial for the clan. Plus this way, they will be sure that the Sharingan is not misused.
'Fugaku is better than I thought.'
"I will never allow it!"
Another elder, who was not very intelligent and was muscleheaded proud retired ninja, objected.
Some objected, some did not. For some weird reason, all women were happy about it, and were curiously looking at Kakashi's mask.
After counting, about 2/3rd were in favour of adoption.
"Since it's decided, I would like for you to decide Kakashi. Do you want to become a part of the Uchiha clan?"
And now, it was time for Kakashi to decide.
