Chapter 48: Senju
" He came?"
Asked a lame man, he was old, hands and feet missing, wodden prosthetics are what supported him.
" Yes.. and he delivered. "
Answered an equally old man, but one of able body, albeit hunched back.
" Nonsense! No one can deliver it anymore! Itarama, you are out of your mind! "
Erupted a middle aged man, he was missing and eye while his whole body was one giant scar tissue.
" Let him speak, Itarama is not the only one who has met him.. I did too.. "
Said a middle aged man lightly, he had no physical defects, but had a wodden doctor's license attached to his coat. He was the doctor who healed Mizuki.
" Everyone.. He came, I gave him a note with our address, and he came. "
The scarred man narrowed his eyes at the doctor's speech, he slowly said
" He came by himself? Cracked the Senju wartime code..? "
At that, the man with prosthetics spoke deeply
" How do we know he isn't just one of the Third's grunts.. why would he study wartime Senju code otherwise. "
Itarama waved his hands. He was the only one among them who wasn't serious, he was thrilled, why would he not, he has seen a miracle.
" Nonsense, have you seen the boy? His reputation exceeds him. The whole konoha recently knows of him. "
The scarred man grunted.
" What's so good about that? He is known as the sunny good looking man. Konoha's most handsome man they call him, what are we to do with looks?! Is that going to help us live another day?? "
* Bang *
Dust rose as the scarred man beat his fist on the round table before him.
The man with prosthetics didn't say a word, but from the looks of it, he might be agreeing with the scarred man.
The doctor shook his head. He whispered.
" I understand why you don't believe it. I had my suspicions too.. but trust me, when you meet him.. it's something I can't explain.. his aura.. "
The man with prosthetics opened his eyes with a jerk.
" Aura?? Are you saying he has an aura that brings everyone close.. believe in him?? Do you know what you are insinuating?!?! You weren't even born when I personally saw Hashirama in action! You can't just say our leader's aura- "
" I was born."
Itarama cut him off.
Then proceeded to repeat.
" I was born... I have seen Hashirama sama in action.. his aura of calmness.. It's as if all your fears will melt away close to him.. that's what I felt from that boy back then.. "
The scarred man grunted once more.
" So what.. He might just be close to nature like our leader. This doesn't mean he isn't brainwashed by the Third. What makes you so certain he isn't just faking it?? "
The man with prosthetics nodded as well.
" Yes, he might have a born connection with nature.. but that is no reason to believe he has no ill will towards us. Hashirama himself had that aura, and he regularly slaughtered Uchihas. "
Itarama didn't look perturbed in the slightest, but the doctor was beginning to question if he truly was okay with Mizuki. The man with prosthetics had made a good point. Nothing was going to stop Mizuki from killing them if he wanted.
" Haha. That's true.. us humans are complex creatures. You can never tell if someone is hiding ill will towards you, until the very last moment. "
The scarred man cut in.
" Then - "
Itarama then proceed to cut him off himself.
" But.. But plants can. They can tell. "
Everyone present narrowed their eyes at Itarama.
Credibility of plants won't be mentioned by them out of nowhere, the only thing first Hokage left them is Konoha forest. It is their guardian. And the best judge of character.
"... Plants don't lie everyone.. come with me. "
Itarama emphasized the point again as he got up and proceeded to walk to a booth.
They walked through the bar, getting to a closed booth.
" This is where the boy and I spoke when he came yesterday... He was polite throughout the meeting, even at my nagging. As far as I could tell, he was genuinely trying to understand us.. but you don't need to believe in an old man like me. "
Opening the door the the booth. Itarama pointed towards the only table set present inside.
" Look at that. "
Nobody's eyes were good among them except the doctor's who was the only one standing shell shocked. Others not understanding what Itarama wanted to show them came closer.
And then-
" What is this...? Itarama..what the hell is this.?!?? "
The scarred man was fuming looking at the table with one eye, it was turning red due to his extreme emotions.
" No.. is that.. no that's real.. it really is.. he is back.. Itarama! He is back! He is back!?! "
The man with prosthetics was too shocked not being able to keep the balance he fell down, but before he could, the doctor got him.
But he too wasn't looking towards the man he just saved, his eyes were fixed on the table as well.
As all three eyes left the table and looked towards Itarama. He whispered softly.
" I told you.. plants don't lie.. "
There stood a sapling, growing on top of a long dead table.
It's sparkling leaves, green tender stem, everything screamed of weakness in need of care, but it was still flourishing, from long dead wood, as if it knows, it's protector is there.. everything will be alright.
Filled with emotions, the old man Itarama continued.
" We sat there, I told him many things, he listened, he told me with his presence he will protect.. he will understand.. and when he left, a sapling grew from there. From long dead wood. "
The man with prosthetics had balanced himself again. But he looked on with wonder as he finished Itarama's words.
" And so he delivered.. the wood felt his promised protection and it grew once more.. long dead wood was given life back! We Senju.."
The scarred man whispered as the other man stopped with emotions choking him.
" We Senju.. We can revive once more, the great tree that fell will grow back once more! "
A feral grin upon the scarred man, he declared.
He believes now. He believed not humans, but plants..
And plants don't lie.
