Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Konoha

3rd person

Two days passed since the death of the fourth Hokage.

The reconstruction of the village was taking place slowly but steadily. This affected the large clans above all, who are the ones who have their properties in the central zone.

When the neighboring villages, both from the other big nations and from the small countries heard what happened, they rushed to send their best spies to find out the damage to the village and see if there was any way to take advantage of their situation. Especially how many casualties they had, since even if they couldn't do something directly, attacking their finances by stealing the contracts for the ninjas that originally belonged to Konoha with the excuse that their military strength was reduced was not impossible.

Big was their surprise when they learned that the damage was minimal. The most affected were, obviously, the managers of the villages that had the most differences with Konoha during the war, Kumogakure and Iwagakure, however, no matter how many tantrums they threw, nothing was going to change things.

They were not the only ones who were angry with the situation. A certain guy with an eyepatch and a bandaged arm wasn't having the best of expressions either, this is because, after the death of the fourth Hokage, all the higher-ups of the village were immediately summoned, This is to decide who was going to take the position of Hokage since they could not allow the position to be empty for even one more day to avoid creating more instability in the hearts of the villagers. Normally they could afford to wait a little longer to make such important decisions, however, the fact that the end of the war and this event happened in such a short period means that this type of risk cannot be taken.

The bad thing is that for this guy with a patch, most of the decision-makers were on the side of the third taking over the village once again. The main reason was that he had only left the post a year ago and it wouldn't take that long to get used to his mandate again.

What angered him the most was that the fourth had left like a true hero without allowing the village to suffer any kind of loss in its military strength, which made the third appear as someone wise who knew how to choose his successor well, thus giving him more credibility in this election.

As for the feudal lord, he received the news immediately through a special channel and sent his reply stating that they could carry out the elections without much concern. The feudal lords, owners of each nation, could be seen as conceited guys who only wasted money and took advantage of their subjects, however, to maintain power it is important to know how to handle sudden situations correctly, and in this case in particular, he understood that more than worrying about not being in a meeting, it was best to allow them to do as they saw fit and then exercise their authority through different political means, since the country of fire could not be allowed to enter into an internal crisis.

All of these only made Danzo angry, who had finally seen an opportunity to get the position he had dreamed of for so many years.

In this specific situation, he planned to contact Tsunade and blackmail her with her information so that she would support him in his candidacy, however, in so many months that he was looking for her, he could not find a single trace. He believed that it would be easy to find her, since it was no secret that she spent her life getting drunk and gambling. Unfortunately, he could not carry out that plan and now he regretted having acted against Orochimaru so quickly because if he had known that Minato was going to win so forcefully, then he would have let him stay as a card up his sleeve for possible situations, unfortunately, his hunger for power and his narrow mind left him now without any important support.

As for the consultants, known as the two elders, they couldn't be happier with the happening of current events. They knew Hiruzen very well and knew that with him at the Helm, they would have no problem maintaining their high status and continuing their corrupt activities. In fact, they were fed up with Minato because due to his pure ideals, they regularly clashed on what to do and what not to do in the village.

Those having the worst time in this type of situation were the clans in the destroyed area. All of his properties and commercial businesses were lost and it was going to take a long time to recover. On top of that, with the fourth, they realized that economic activity was growing at a fast pace, and they were grateful for the new policies, and now with the third, they don't know if this will continue.

The worst thing was that the clans that were in the center were precisely the largest and the ones with the greatest power, not only military but also economic, which made any sudden change a big problem for the village in general. Everyone knows that the economy is the basis for militarization, and without the former the latter cannot develop, however, now that all the businesses of these clans were destroyed, they had no way of maintaining their normal operations, in fact, even getting food was a luxury at the moment, and their savings would go mostly to rebuilding the infrastructure, so the village would have to provide them for some time, which would generate a large deficit in their accounts.

Another point to take into account would be to calm down the residents. These were the true force behind Konoha, since thanks to them the economy moved and it was, in fact, from the common people where the greatest number of ninjas came from, since no matter how powerful a clan is, its members were a minority compared to an entire village. And now those same people were so terrified that a great possibility that they would go to live elsewhere was present in the heads of the upper echelons, after all, for something so big to happen in the supposedly greatest military power in the world was something that left no one indifferent.

What reassured the high command was that the number of civilian casualties was incredibly low, having evacuated when the explosions began, there were just some injured. The only ones who suffered the misfortune of perishing were those who belonged to the group that was in charge of stopping the beast until the fourth arrived, so, even though many were scared, at least they had the security that the village knew how to respond quickly to unexpected situations.

The only one who was not at ease with this analysis was Shikaku, who knew full well the real reason why they were able to evacuate everyone safely. Since that day, he has spent every time he has free thinking about who was able to organize such a plan to help the village from the shadows. He, after several analyzes, knew full well that the first wave of explosions was from an ally, as the timing and order were too perfect to be a coincidence. so now one of his biggest goals was to know who that subject was. He, Shikaku Nara, couldn't just leave someone capable of predicting or obtaining information about such a large-scale attack roaming around. This was his responsibility as the strategist and councilor of the village.

This was the situation in the first two days since the tragedy occurred. Now, in a makeshift meeting room in place of the Hokage's mansion, in an area cleared of rubble, the highest leaders of the village were gathered.

At first, they tried to extend the time until a new leader is elected, this is in order to propose candidates that could give greater benefits to each group. However, the time to organize the reconstruction, food distribution, tool distribution, cleaning organization, etc; they realized that since each one worked as an independent group, organizing was practically impossible and each zone was producing very uneven results. This was a danger since there was not someone of a higher rank, the clans could take advantage to gain greater authority within the area of which they were in charge.

Luckily the third, who already had experience in this type of situation, quickly noticed the problem before it became something bigger, thus summoning everyone and arriving at the current situation. There was a lot of discussion about who should now be in charge of being the protector of Konoha, unfortunately, apart from Hiruzen and Danzo, there was no one else who could be capable of carrying such responsibility.

What saved the village was Danzo's incredibly bad reputation with most of the clans due to many disputes they had in the past, this is because of him wanting more power and influence over them. There were many who suggested Jiraiya to be the one to take charge, unfortunately, he was not in the village and it was very difficult to contact him in such a short time.

On the other hand, another person who also had a big headache was the third, who had hopes that one of his two students would come back to take care of this problem. He already considered himself an old person and did not want to put himself under such stress in his later years, especially now that he had lost his wife.

In fact, Lite tried to think of some plan to save her, however, he couldn't risk so much preparation time for just one person. Also, in the case of any ninja, he would never feel guilty for treating them in any way, since they were the ones who chose to live that way. So for him, Hiruzen's wife was not innocent of anything.

For all that, the third took it upon himself to search everywhere for Tsunade and try to contact her through the means that she herself had left, but he was bound to be disappointed.

In a nutshell, the village as a whole was a mess right now, and it was only because of the respect they still had for the fourth and his sacrifice that they had not entered anarchy.

This is very different from the story that Lite knew, where the biggest problem was the loss of life, and in this case was the morale of the people.

After hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of discussion, on the third day, it was announced that Sarutobi Hiruzen would return to the post.

This news did not take more than an hour to reach all parts of the continent with various responses from each of the leaders.

This made some frowns and others laugh. The first, because they had a bad experience with him during the war, and the second, knowing that the professor was no longer the same as before, his heart had aged, and he no longer had the same impulse to make difficult decisions. In fact, in this very last war, it had been shown that decisions he could easily make before, such as sending entire battalions to their deaths for greater tactical advantage, he could no longer make. This made what could have been a slightly more defined victory become what it came to be in the end.

After all, in a war, the general has to have enough ruthlessness to make decisions even against his principles.

Those who weren't happy with the low number of casualties, were at this very moment rubbing their hands knowing that they just had to wait for the right opportunity to make big profits.

In this way, with a restless heart, the coronation of the third was carried out.

Unfortunately for Hiruzen, this was something that in the future he wished he had never done since he would lose everything he still had.
