Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Toads
Arriving on the mountain, Catherine immediately noticed the stark contrast between the other two Sage Lands.
Unlike Ryuchi Cave, which was damp, dark, and eerie, or Shikkotsu Forest, which was calm, sunny, and had animals able to coexist, Mount Myoboku seemed to have a friendly and kind atmosphere. The moist air that surrounded them was oddly comforting instead of bothering her.
After a few minutes of walking, she came across two toads who seemed to be talking about something. The two toads then noticed her walking, however, instead of reacting like the Slugs or Snakes who immediately became aggressive after seeing her, they instead showed faces of concern as they asked
"Are you lost? Do you want some help?" asked the red toad in a concerned voice.
"Yeah, we can help you find your way home if you want." added the white toad.
Catherine was inwardly surprised by the friendliness, but she didn't show it as she smiled and asked "Actually, I'm here to meet with the Great Toad Sage."
The two then frowned a bit before asking "Why would you need to speak to the Great Toad Sage?"
"It is a matter that concerns the life and death of our entire world. I hope you can take me to meet him." Catherine spoke.
The two toads then looked at each other for a moment, as if silently conversing, before turning back to Catherine and saying "Very well, we will take you to meet him."
The two then turned and led Catherine in the direction of the residence of the Great Toad Sage.
Along the way, Catherine asked them "What is the Great Toad Sage like? She asked curiously. She wasn't sure if the current Great Toad Sage was Gamamaru like Katsuyu, where she was already in the position, or if it was like the Black Snake Sage, where the position was currently held by someone else.
Both toads seemed hesitant to talk about it before finally saying "Gamamaru just took the position about a month ago, so we can't exactly tell you ho-Oww! What was that for Gami?" he said after getting hit in his arm by the other toad.
"We're not allowed to call him by his name anymore, remember Gamakan! But yes, to answer your question, we can't really tell you about how he is as the Great Toad Sage, but as a person, he's extremely kind and a very good listener, especially when I wanna talk about this bastard." she said to Catherine while throwing shots at the other Toads.
Catherine was pondering over their answer though as she thought 'So Gamamaru just took charge? That means he is relatively new at his position and might even be quite young. I wonder if he can currently see into the future or not through his dreams. Either way, he should agree to my proposal to work with Ryuchi Cave and Shikkotsu Forest.'
The three then finally saw a temple come into view, with many houses surrounding it. They also saw many toads, some of which were talking while the smaller ones played together.
However, unlike the other animals in the other 2 Sage Lands, when they saw Catherine they smiled and waved at her instead of growing hostile.
'It seems Mount Myoboku is the most friendly among the 3 Great Sage Lands. They aren't even a little bit worried that I could be tricking them.' Catherine thought.
They finally made it to the temple, with Gami and Gamakan walking in and Catherine following.
"Wake up Gamamaru!!"
