Chapter 54: Violet Veins

BZZZZZZ

"Benimaru!" Kiyoko screamed out as she went to catch him before he fell down.

Benimaru took a deep breath in and breathed out, "Ahhh, son of a bitch, that hurt."

Hanzo looked at Benimaru and walked up to him. "Didn't think you would be the one to get hurt in a place like this," he remarked as he evaluated Benimaru's condition.

Benimaru rolled his eyes, steadied his breathing, and stood up. "Yeah yeah, laugh it up sensei. Once I can fight on even footing with you, you'll regret the sarcasm you use."

"Well, no one has been able to make me regret it yet. Hopefully you can though," he replied back in a dry tone.

'He totally loves doing this to Benimaru, doesn't he?' I thought as I watched the interaction happen.

"I will. Let's just go, I'm feeling fine anyway," Benimaru grunted as he started to walk again.

Shrugging, we all followed after him. "You know, the weird signature keeps getting stronger and stronger. The thing is, it doesn't feel hostile. It just feels weird, and kind of invasive," I said as we kept walking forward, where the crystallized animals and bugs kept getting more and more frequent.

"Yeah, this place is starting to weird me out. On top of the creatures, the wall veins seem to keep getting thicker and thicker," Kiyoko said as she walked along, looking at the purple grooves on the walls.

Nodding my head, I looked at her. "It probably means that we are almost there."

As we kept walking, the signature kept getting worse and worse. It got so bad that I had to shut my M E off; otherwise, it felt like I was having crystals shoved into my brain.

Finally, we arrived at an open cavern of the cave, and it looked beautiful. The grooves in the walls that we've been referring to as veins looked to be quite accurate as they all got to the thickness of a human body and contacted the crystal both from the top and the bottom. The room itself was entirely transformed into the same material that sat in the center of the room, almost looking like we were standing in the middle of an amethyst geode. The main attraction, though, was a gigantic crystal, of what looked like amethyst, in the center of the room. It was so tall that it touched the ceiling and wide enough that 3 fully grown humans couldn't cover its width.

"Wow, this is amazing." Kiyoko spoke out first

"I've never seen anything like it." I added to it. In my 2 lives, I've never seen something so weird but beautiful.

"It certainly is odd." Hanzo muttered while thinking about what this could possibly be.

"I'm going to go closer to it," Kiyoko said, almost as if in a trance.

Hanzo looked at her and shrugged. We all watched as she walked up to the crystal and felt a surge of energy as she reached out to touch the surface of the crystal.

Getting a really bad feeling, I was about to rush over to grab her and get her out of the trance, but Benimaru beat me to it.

"Stop!" He shouted, his voice echoing with an unnatural reverberance that seemed out of place even in a cave.

I watched as she had paused her movements and snapped out of the trance she was in before looking at her immobile body.

"Woah," was all she got out before she started to move again, turning around and smiling. "BENI! you finally got your kekkei genkai!" She yelled.

"It's not that big of a deal, don't make such a big scene," he said, turning his head so as to not look at anyone.

Smirking, I looked at him playfully. "I guess now you might stand a chance against me."

He turned back indignantly. "I'm so gonna break your-" he didn't finish as Hanzo put a hand on his head and squeezed, clearly putting a lot of pressure on it.

"We still have a mission to do before you do anything of the sort," Hanzo's eyes were glowing red as his body started to heat up.

"You're right sensei, let's finish the mission first," Benimaru gulped and replied.

Letting go of his head, Hanzo looked at some of the crystals growing out from the wall. "These should be fine to touch, take out a sealing scroll and take as many as you can," he told us over his shoulder as he inspected a crystal he picked off of the wall.

We all nodded and went to the walls to start taking them off. 'These crystals seem to have something weird going on with them. On top of the fact that they let off a tiny amount of light, they almost feel empty.' Seeing as we were going to be here for a while picking each crystal out of the wall, I sent a little bit of chakra into the crystal.

"Ahh!" I shut my eyes tight as the light it was giving off was enough to blind you.

"Why can't we go five minutes without an issue from any of you brats?" Hanzo yelled over to me as the light went out.

"Sorry, I didn't realize I was holding the sun in my hands," I grumbled back as Hanzo appeared behind me.

"What'd you say?" He lurked over my shoulder grabbing my head.

"Ah, nothing sensei, I didn't say anything," I waved my hands in front of me while trying to placate him.

"Hmmm, if you say so," he looked at me closely before going back to his original place.

Breathing out, I looked back to the crystal. 'Why does it feel empty? Is there supposed to be something inside?' That made me think that perhaps it could be used to store something like a sealing scroll.

'It wouldn't hurt to try,' I thought shrugging my shoulders.

Putting my hand on the crystal, I put a storage seal on it. I watched as the seal formed for a couple of seconds then watched the seal as it seemingly dissolved.

'Seriously?' I blankly looked at the amethyst in my hand. 'Wait a second, why can I still feel the seal? Did it not disappear?'

Looking at it, I decided to put a barrier seal onto the crystal as well just to test a hypothesis. Just like the seal before, this one too dissolved into the crystal.

Looking carefully at the crystal, I activated the storage seal and it showed up on the crystal. Again, I activated the other seal and it showed up and acted exactly like a barrier seal would.

Activating both simultaneously resulted in the same result but with both seals showing up.

"Interesting, so it can store seals in it and activate them remotely. It also allows for the simultaneous activation of certain seals within it. This could become insanely handy," I said under my breath.

"You're right, it could help us a lot. This cave might be more of a treasure trove than I thought," Hanzo appeared over my shoulder looking at the crystal.

"Make sure you gather every single one you can, I don't want to leave a single one behind. We will keep the giant one where it is for right now; Lord Third will probably end up sending a special squad with the research capabilities to find out what exactly this thing is."

Nodding and going back to work, I decided to keep a few in a separate scroll so I could make a few things out of it.
