Chapter 65: CH.65.1 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED IN EBONMERE
Jaxith and Irene were walking in Akreman forest on their trip to Duskthorne where they're going to meet Lance, the one who brought up Irene along with his wife.
Irene was riding Senka as usual while Jaxith was walking calmly as always beside them.
"Are you sure that we'll take a week until reaching Duskthorne?", Asked Irene while looking down at Jaxith.
"Indeed, it will take exactly a week.", Said Jaxith calmly.
"Come on, Jax, there's nothing to be worried about, we can continue this trip directly like any normal one.", Said Irene.
"After what happened at Ebonmere there's nothing normal from what's going on.", Said Jaxith boldly.
"That doesn't mean to act so abnormal.", Said Irene protestingly.
"No, abnormal is exactly what we're doing.", Said Jaxith while still looking forward.
"Ahhhh!", Grumbled Irene before laying her head over Senka's back neck in grouch, she doesn't like Jaxith's way to reach Lance, Senka looked back at Irene who wasn't even looking at him but she raised her hand and started rubbing Senka's ear.
"Sorry about that, Senka, I'm just devastated by Jaxith's, smart tactics.", Said Irene while rubbing Senka's ear and still burying her head, Jaxith just looked at her by the side of his eyes without talking.
"Since you've told me about that we're taking that long to reach Duskthorne and I'm feeling depressed, really depressed.", Said Irene in a grumbling manner.
"Good, at least you'll stop your lame jokes for some time.", Said Jaxith boldly, Irene raised her head slowly while looking with half closed angry eyes at Jaxith who was still walking without looking at her.
"You would be insane to think that I'm dropping bullying you because I'm depressed, cause I'm depressed because of you, grandpa.", Said Irene while crossing her arms and smirking, Jaxith just sighed after hearing her, she is simply unstoppable.
"Booooring, at least say something to pass the time.", Said Irene in a grumbling manner again.
"Something.", Said Jaxith boldly while looking carefully ahead, Irene was surprised by Jaxith's reply.
"You know what? I think it's better to not say jokes.", Said Irene.
"You asked for it.", Said Jaxith.
"And I'm dumb for even thinking about it.", Said Irene.
"Exactly.", Said Jaxith boldly.
"What the f-.", Said Irene in surprise before Jaxith interrupted her before finishing her words.
"Language.", Said Jaxith firmly before finally looking at her, Irene stayed silent for a few seconds.
"Fine, sorry, but it's the environment I was brought up in, you can't expect me to forget my attitude that easily, and you kind of insulted me there too.", Said Irene while averting her eyes upwards to avoid meeting Jaxith's serious look.
"In fact, you called yourself dumb, not me.", Said Jaxith calmly, they were close to a small pond that had a muddy ground around and they were going to step on that mud now.
"But I was m-, you we-, ahhhh, just forget it, okay?", Said Irene in defeat, again she couldn't handle Jaxith's smart attitude, Jaxith just smiled and looked forward again, Irene looked forward to the pond and noticed something.
"Wait!", Said Irene.
"What?", Said Jaxith.
"I recognize this pond, we were here yesterday!", Said Irene in surprise while looking at Jaxith.
"It looks like you're beginning to focus well.", Said Jaxith without looking at her.
"You didn't tell me that we'll be taking long time to reach Duskthorne because you don't know the way there.", Said Irene while stopping Senka and looking unsatisfied with Jaxith, Jaxith stopped and looked back at her.
"What makes you think that I don't know the way to Duskthorne?", Asked Jaxith seriously.
"Later you told me you were moving in semi circular motion to avoid anyone from following us, but now you came back to the same place we were in yesterday, and this is the first time I recognize this because of the pond, you must have done this several times by now as most of the forest is alike, we're lost, right?", Said Irene before jumping down from Senka's back.
"We're not lost.", Said Jaxith calmly while looking at Irene who started walking forward alone and kneeling down.
"Damnit Jaxith, this our footsteps from yesterday, we're even moving in a totally different direction now, we were going to cross over the direction we were moving in yesterday.", Said Irene while looking at the steps in the muddy ground, the steps were coming from the west side to the east side, now they're moving to the north (That's why she's saying they were going to cross over their trail and why she thinks that they're lost now because Jaxith is back to the same place they were in yesterday and even from a different direction than yesterday which proves they're just rotating around themselves in random way).
Jaxith moved closer to her then Senka calmly them.
"We're not lost, I know what I'm doing, but since you noticed that we passed from here yesterday but from a different direction through our footsteps, why don't you take a closer look at the footsteps and stop complaining a bit.", Said Jaxith while looking serious at Irene, Irene was surprised by what he said and slowly looked back at steps.
Senka's hoffs were in the middle and on the two sides there were steps for two persons.
"That's Senka's hoffs.", Said Irene while pointing at Senka's steps before looking back at Jaxith's boots then looking forward at the steps.
"And your footsteps are the ones on the left, the steps on the right aren't mine, my feet are smaller and the shoes itself are different, I was on Senka's back like always.", Said Irene before pausing, Jaxith narrowed his eyes while looking at her focusing.
"S*it, you weren't joking about being followed.", Said Irene while looking back at Jaxith in worry.
"It's good that there's an evidence to prove to you that I'm not lying about it.", Said Jaxith calmly before he extended his hand for Irene, she calmly grasped it and he pulled her up to stand.
"Damnit, but why are we back again? Shouldn't we be quicker to reach Duskthorne safely instead of wasting our time.", Said Irene while looking worried.
"Don't worry, they would never risk attacking in an open place like the Akreman forest, we can easily escape, but if they cornered us in the town it will be harder on us, they want to make sure we're going to Duskthorne, that's why I'm keeping this strange random movement in the forest, I want them to not understand what we're doing, and if they are already waiting for us at Duskthorne then they'll be expecting us to be there in about three days, so if we didn't reach there in about five days they'll start thinking that our destination isn't Duskthorne, that'll make us safer when we reach Duskthorne because whoever is waiting there won't be expecting it so mostly we'll stay unnoticed because they will drop their guard.", Said Jaxith smartly, perfect, Irene was mesmerized by Jaxith's thinking.
"How can he be so smart and calm? He's right though.", Thought Irene while looking at the ground by her right side.
"I guess you're right, a week is a week, I'll stop complaining, you're right, sorry for being impatient with you.", Said Irene in a sad tone while still looking at the ground, Jaxith smiled and looked carefully at Irene.
