Chapter 2: I Have a Feeling That We're Not in Aurora Anymore
"Kale, I have a feeling that we're not in Aurora anymore" Soleil whispered to her 16-year-old younger brother who is now trying to sleep.
"Obviously, we're moving out. In case you forgot. So can you please. Let me have my peaceful nap. SISTER" Kale sarcastically mumbled while slowly wearing his earphone so that her sister can't disturb her from his sleep.
Soleil laughed while enjoying the site of her brother annoyed face. Kale is usually a nice and jolly person but when he's trying to sleep he became a different person. When you disturb his sleep he will give you a frightful death glare while scolding you with his sarcastic remarks. Far from the cheerful and mischievous Kale.
Soleil want to tease her brother more but she knew that when she does it again she will receive either a pinch or a throw from Kale and his pinch is the most painful pinch you will ever receive.
The journey to their new house is long and slow. It's not because the house is far but because it's her father who was driving and yes, the dreadful traffic also adds up the slow pacing of their travel. For Mr. Innocencio, Soleil's father, when it comes to driving "Safety first" is his number one rule.
Maybe, the reason why Mr. Innocencio is meticulous at driving is because of the incident when he was on his adolescent years. Usually, Soleil's mother is the one who drives but today is an exemption because she was beat up from the exhaustion from all the packing and cleaning since morning. After all, the changing of residence and relocation of their job was a rush.
"Soleil, can you pass me the neck pillow?" her mother asked. Soleil grab the neck pillow behind her and handed it to her mother. "Thank you dear, if I were you, I will sleep. So that, I will have an energy later"
"Pa, are we near yet?" Soleil look at her father in the rearview mirror of their car. Her father didn't even bat her an eye. He is still focused at driving.
"We will arrive at our new house in a couple of few minutes my dear" her father assured. Still focusing at his driving.
Soleil scuff inside her head because she knew that when her father said in a few minutes, the meaning of his word is ' We will arrive in an hour. So just enjoy the ride'
Soleil decided to gazed out the window and look at the tall buildings outside and those people walking and minding their own business in the busy streets. Gone the verdant panorama and the freshness of the country air of Aurora. It's pretty amazing how each person that she met has different stories of their life. For others they're just strangers that they might never see them again but for Soleil, she saw different lovely people that has their own life, own traumas, own experiences, own joys and own dreams. It's pretty amazing that they are the protagonist of their own story. She wonders what kinds of people are they? Are they nice or rude? Or an optimistic person or a pessimistic? There are many people, at the same time, many possibilities she had never imagined.
Because of her thought, there are two things that crossed her mind. First is her friends that she left at Aurora. What are they doing in this moment? Did they have fun? Or are they sad? She misses them already but she has no choice but to leave them. Besides, it's not as if she will never come back or migrate to another country. She can visit them when she has the right amount of money and she can always contact them through technologies.
The second thing that crossed her mind, is the endless possibilities of what her life would be at their new house, and new environment. In that moment, she experiences the bittersweet truth that there are people who will come and go in your life and this time she will be the one who will "go".
