Chapter 3: New Beginnings

The next morning, the highest trending search was still the producer-actress couple... but due to a different reason. All of the leading press groups got an anonymous voice recording. The recording was none other than Feng Shin's confession last night.

"I'm sorry. It's all my fault. But trust me, I'm only loyal to you. After the movie is done production, I plan to announce my breakup with Lee Yue. Just let the rumours run its course..."

Although SG Entertainment quickly removed the recording from all sources, the damage had already been done. However, because of their deep connections, they were able to rectify the situation, explaining that it was a fake recording from a jealous ex-girlfriend.

Feng Shin went to find Xiao Gao to vent his anger, but she had already moved out of her apartment. It was like she vanished into thin air.

Xiao Gao didn't own many belongings so it was easy for her to pack everything and move out in one night. She booked the next available train from Shanghai to Guangzhou and arranged for the boxes of her belongings to be shipped to her new address. She wanted to leave everything behind and figured that an 8-hour train ride would help clear her head.

She bought a bag full of snacks from the convenience store at the train station before getting in line to board the train. She found her seat by the window and sat down. She took out her neck pillow and blanket and made herself comfortable. She then propped down the portable table and organized her snacks.

The train announced that it was about to close its doors and leave the station when a man ran into the train, panting. He looked around, trying to find his seat.

"Is this 11B?" He asked Xiao Gao, pointing to the seat beside her.

Xiao Gao looked up to see a dishevelled man. He was carrying a small suitcase and a backpack while holding on to a stack of paper and a laptop. He looked comfortable in joggers and a black T-shirt with a red cap over his messy black hair.

"Yeah," she said as she adjusted her blanket so that it didn't cover his seat.

The man temporarily left his laptop and stack of papers on the seat while he put his suitcase and backpack in the compartment above.

Xiao Gao glanced at the papers to her side to see that it was a draft of a script for a movie. She quickly averted her eyes as the man took the papers and sat down.

The train started moving. She dug into the snack bag and took out a bag of chips and started munching on them as she checked her phone. She looked at the celebrity news. Seeing SG Entertainment's statement, she sighed. She knew the recording she sent wouldn't make much of a difference, but it was worth a try. She then went and checked on her messages.

Wolf: Saw the news article... Did he really lie to your face like that? What're you going to do now?

Pup: I'm taking the train to Guangzhou. Gonna take a little break.

Sloth: Why don't you come back to Boston? Why stay in China?

Pup: There are still some loose ends I need to tie up. Might come and visit in a couple of months.

Wolf: You okay? Want us to come and visit? I've been wanting to go on a vacation soon!

Pup: Nah, I know you're busy. I just want to clear my head. Don't worry I'll be fine.

Sloth: Alright, let us know if you need anything. I will totally go and kick his a**. Just give me the word.

Xiao Gao continued on to her second bag of chips while surfing the web. An hour into the train ride, she got hungry and ordered some food. A few minutes later, a lady came in with a rolling cart and delivered the food she ordered.

"That's a lot of food," the man beside her commented as he helped pass on the food from the cart lady to her. Her propped up table was now full and he was awkwardly holding her order of noodles, wondering where to put it.

"Yeah, I guess I ordered too much on impulse," she answered as she took the bowl of noodles from his hands. "Thanks."

They continue to ride in silence after the exchange. The man read the script in his hands, writing down suggestions and edits along the way. Xiao Gao was curious and glanced over a couple of times, reading the script while she ate the buffet in front of her. She soon became invested in the story and became less discreet about reading it. She figured that the sunglasses she had on was enough to hide what she was doing.

"You like what you're reading?" the man asked as he turned around and faced her.
