Chapter 2: Empty Hope
Why do we hold onto hope
When all it leaves us
Is empty inside
Like a glass slipper left behind
A hint of missed reality
Stranded in time
Grasping to this feeling
Not knowing the outcome
What we call Hope
Insides dripping with decay,
But hope seems to keep it at bay
.
Why do we hold onto hope
When all it leaves us
Is an empty hole
Of something we wish to be
.
When the outcome comes to fruition,
We call it a miracle
But when the outcome dies,
we lose hope in all that is good
.
What a word, hope
An empty promise to ourselves
To make the bleak a little more shiny
Tiny shards
Filtered through rosy glasses
Passes as hope in the fray
.
Hope is like the last bit of oxygen
Before we swallow the water
Drowning in emptiness
Sometimes it saves
And other times
We grow more cold
.
So again, why do we hold onto hope,
When all it leaves us
Is empty as we die
