Chapter 5: Progress (1)
I wake to nice warm March morning. It's the year 1998 now. I have finished my elementary school and will be going to a junior high school from next month. It's now the holidays starting from today.
I suppose it's that time of the year again, where I can do whatever I want. And boy do I look forward to these holidays. Since I can train as much as I want by giving an excuse that I am going to play with my non-existent friends to Byakuya when he bothers to ask me where I am going, which he really doesn't bother much about thankfully.
I am really thankful for how neglectful he is from the bottom of my heart. Anyway let's start the day with checking out and finishing my daily mission.
[Daily Mission-
Preparation to become a powerful magus. A healthy mind only resides in a healthy body.
Objectives:
1) Do 110 push-ups
2) Do 110 sit-ups
3) Do 110 squats
4) Run 11 km.
Rewards: 100 SP]
Yeah the difficulty in daily missions keep on increasing but it's still good. After all it's helping me train, and also giving me motivation to train.
I head outside of my room, lock my room and then head towards the main door of the mansion.
"I am heading outside."
I say to no one in particular but the concerned parties will know about my departure due to the boundary field in the mansion. That's the main reason, I can't train inside the house. Of course I am talking about training in magecraft not physical training like push ups or things like that.
After going outside I start running towards the Riverside park on this side of the Mion river, on the side of Miyama town. Reaching that place, I start my exercises and see some other people exercising there as well. I don't see any notable faces there, so I don't talk to any of them. I am pretty anti-social after all. And cultivating a prideful mentality doesn't help in that at all, even if I am failing at it.
After doing the set of exercises there, I complete my daily mission and get the rewards.
Then I head towards the shopping district to buy some food for the day, since I wouldn't be returning to the Matou mansion till the evening. I buy enough food for the day. After all I don't lack money.
By the way, did I forget to mention that I eat a lot? And by that I mean, I am just a little short of Saber level. I should be able to give Fujimura Taiga a run for her money in that regard.
There is a very good reason for it. It's my training, it's very intense ever since I bought the Curse of Self Healing, I try to push myself as much as I can which makes my body need a ton of energy to maintain it. After all the energy to heal my body, doesn't just come out of nowhere. At least that's my excuse for it.
After buying the food stuff and putting it in my food inventory where both time and space are frozen, I put them there to keep it fresh.
I also have some breakfast there at one of the diners, and then I go on my way towards a place where people don't visit often. The area behind Ryuudou Temple.
After about an hour of walking I reach a secluded place, I use [ID Creation (D)].
I get suddenly get the following options in front of my face, on a virtual looking interface.

I haven't unlocked the next level of this skill since I haven't killed the Boss of this D Rank Dungeon. That was mainly because I don't have much to waste on my usual days, and can focus only on this at holidays. Also this Dungeon is really large at the size of a city, so it's not easy to even find the Boss much less kill him.
Plus it would not really even if I clear this Dungeon right now, because my abilities aren't strong enough to challenge a C Rank Dungeon yet.
I first enter the [Empty ID] to change and get my stuff for the battle.

I get my spear and the sword from the enchantment tables, change into a priest like robe and put 3 Black Keys in my inner pocket. I also take the pistol out and tuck it in at my waist, which I recently bought from the shop. It uses my Magical Energy when I channel it through to make bullet rounds of Holy energy through it.
Fuck! Why do I feel more like an Exorcist of the Church than a magus?!
Well whatever works, I guess. It's still better than magus like Matou Zouken. I also check out the Shop for some stuff, I might want to get. I have my eye on one thing that most likely help me solve almost all my problems, but it's a secret for now.

I then use [ID Creation (D)] to enter the [The Dead ID (D Rank)] from [Empty ID].
When I blink my eyes, I can see the familiar ever dark cityscape which feels desolate as if I am in zombie movie which isn't really far from the truth. The Dead are basically zombies after all.
I start walking around the desolate city looking for the enemy around here, these beings are very adept at hiding and ambushes.
I activate my Wind magecraft that I came up with myself to sense enemies by saying the words, "Ventus sensorem on". This activates my wind sense around me and helps me in sensing stuff around me. I came up with this magecraft to thoroughly utilize my wind element for some support stuff at least, it is my main element after all. The inspiration was Emiya Shirou's tracing ability as seen by my chant. I made the chant in latin so I don't trigger the spell accidentally somewhere else.
I surprisingly find a group of 12 Dead after walking for 20 minutes and finding nothing, I lower my presence to see what they are doing. These are mindless puppets so why are they grouped up like this? There are only 2 reasons for this, the most likely reason is that it's an ambush and the other reason could be that it's the Boss. But from what I can see, there's no Boss here.
I stealthily take out my gun and then fire 10 shots at five of The Dead, each at their chests and the heads.

This exhausted around 60% of my Od, so I put back my gun and run outside with my Reinforced body to deal with the remaining 7 Dead.
I ready my spear in one hand, and take out 3 Black Keys in another. I shoot the Black Keys at 3 of the Dead's shadow by chanting "Restringo!" and then restrict their movements for the time being. I only hit 2 of the shadows, the last one doesn't hit sadly.
"Tsk not again."
I then thrust the nearest Dead and in the heart with my spear before it reaches and then slash at it with my now recovered sword from the inventory. As soon as I behead The Dead, my instincts detect attacks coming from 3 different directions.

One with a knife, and two with swords. Thankfully there was only 1 gunman in this group and that Dead is already destroyed by my gun. To dodge these guys' attacks my instincts tell me to jump up and I do jump to almost the height of 2 meters. And then land on their heads, then kick them off and head towards the restricted Dead to finish them off.
I pierce one in heart and slash the other ones head clean off. Then I proceed to finish the other one off.

The other Dead are a bit of a distance away. The nearest one is 3 meters away, but that's no problem for me but suddenly my instincts flare as if sensing a fatal danger to me, and I dodge backwards as a shadow slashes the space where my neck was previously.
I can see by its quick movements that it's a cut above the rest. It looks at me with an intelligent glint in its eyes and clicks its tongue. And then it dawns on me, what the being in front of me is.
Boss!

(Matou Byakuya POV)
Something has changed in my incapable son Shinji. It all started on that night more than a year ago when Shinji somehow found the entrance to the disgusting training grounds of Matou. He saw me while I was acclimatizing Sakura to the worms and training her, the next heir of the Matou family.
The girl is pitiful, but then again so am I. I can't disobey Zouken after all. God knows what he will do to me if I disobey him. Kariya was a good example of what not to do, so here I am doing Zouken's bidding. Hah the alcohol is my only friend. It saves me from the pain from living in this disgraceful family.
Anyway from that time onwards, Shinji stopped calling me 'Otou-san'. I don't know if that's resentment from not being the heir or something else but in the end, I don't really care. He has a chance of not entering this world with a perfect excuse unlike my hateful brother, so he should run while he can away from this accursed family.
He has grown closer to Sakura and she surprisingly enjoys his company. It's perhaps the only good thing that is happening in this house. Hence I don't interfere in that. Perhaps it's good that Shinji is turning out like this. Only time will tell what his fate will be. Zouken will return at the start of the next year, I wonder what he is planning.
Honestly I want to run away from this place!
But I don't dare to act on that impulse, since Zouken just might make me an experimental subject for his experiments if I disobey him.
So here I am, just wasting my life by drinking alcohol early in the morning. I hear a "I'm heading outside." from Shinji through the boundary field. I sometimes wonder what he is doing outside, but then I reproach myself because I don't have that right as a father.
