Chapter 8: Chapter 8

-[Kenneth]-

Quickly adding 2 points to Agility and 1 to Vitality, he rolled out of the way as a Gnasht snapped its jaws at him.

Immediately taking aim at point-blank range, he fired at its maw, causing it to scream in pain as the bullet tore through it. He fired another bullet through its skull before moving away and dodging another Gnasht's attempt to bite into him.

-[You have killed your opponent.]

Though he had raised Strength to 18, Agility paired with Perception was still his favored stat, allowing him to see and dodge the creatures' attacks.

He ducked, avoiding one of the Gnashts as they leaped over him. Before it could fully pass over, Kenneth aimed the gun at its underside.

*Bang!* *Bang!*

The creature's whines were put to an end by the next pull of the trigger as a bullet was fired into its head.

-[You have killed your opponent.]

-[Skill 'Firearm Proficiency' has leveled up!]

He flipped onto his feet as the two remaining creatures dashed towards him. Aiming at the one on the left, the bullet tore into one of its front limbs, causing it to stumble and fall.

He rolled under the other Gnasht that leaped towards him, aiming the gun at the downed creature and finishing it off with a bullet to the head.

-[You have killed your opponent.]

'Only one remaining.' He thought as the final one ran headfirst towards him only for him to use [Power Strike], kicking it to the side.

Before it could get up and continue its attack, Kenneth fired a bullet into it.

-[You have killed your opponent.]

-[Level up!]

He let out a breath of relief as no more of them showed up despite a part of him wanting more of them to come so that he could level up.

Looking around, he saw a few of the hidden people peek out from their hiding places. He immediately took off running, making sure that his hood was still raised.

Along the way, he allocated the three new points to Agility, feeling the noticeable increase in his speed.

While some would call him stupid for focusing on Agility instead of Strength or trying to balance it out, he would stand by his decision.

Strength could only be useful if you were able to hit your opponent. As for the matter of balancing stats, it was better to specialize in one area than be average at all of them.

Though he would focus on Agility, he wouldn't neglect his other stats too much. Strength was mostly covered with [Power Strike] in his arsenal and he used Perception in tandem with Agility so it was just as important.

After going a while on foot, he was sure that he had moved away from prying eyes. He then removed his car from his inventory, quickly getting in, and continuing his journey, silently happy that he avoided paying for gas.

In the briefing room in Providence headquarters, Agent Six stood in front of the large screen that displayed White Knight's frowning face.

"Good, you're here. I'll cut to the chase." White Knight said as a picture of men in armor popped up beside his video feed. "They call themselves the Forever Knights. An organization of purists that hate EVOs."

Six raised a brow at that. In this day and age, it wasn't that hard to find those who hated EVOs. What was it that made this particular set of lunatics special?

"Normally, I wouldn't care about them but this bunch has been making some moves over the past few months." White Knight said, answering his silent question. "Take Rex with you."

"This sounds a little overkill for some delusional cosplayers." Six said, questioningly.

"Delusional or not, they can pose a threat if given enough time. I'm sending you the coordinates. Now, get to it." White Knight ordered, the screen going blank immediately.

Six let out a sigh as he turned to one of the agents at one of the systems. "Send the coordinates to my jump jet. I'll go get Rex."

He paused as he caught sight of the screen the agent was looking at. "We have a hit. EVO activity in sector-!" His words stopped as the alert on the screen disappeared. "What just happened?"

"That's the problem, sir. It's been happening for the past few days. We've been getting hits but they're gone before we can send someone out." The agent revealed, causing Six to frown.

"Show me the areas where you've had these hits. The ones that disappeared." As he said that, the agent pulled up a screen that showed the locations Six asked for.

The man's frown deepened even more. The locations were all in the direction of the coordinates White Knight had sent him.

'If you look at it from another angle, there's a road that vaguely follows this pattern. Something or someone is moving.' Six thoughts with narrowed eyes. "Send this to my jump jet as well. Notify me if it happens again."

After a few days of driving, he was almost at his destination. The fueling stops were not fun but it wasn't something he could avoid.

After his initial encounter with the Gnasht EVO species, he was able to confidently take on a few more. He didn't need to hunt them down seeing as how the area he had been driving him seemed like a hot zone for them.

He had killed off a decent number of them along the way, leading him to level up three times. He took note of the area, mentally labeling it as a hunting zone to return to after dealing with the Forever Knights issue.

Whether it would truly be enough, he didn't know. What he did know is that he couldn't let Zag RS be completed.

The car came to a stop as he reached the location. He didn't know what he expected to see but he didn't expect to see nothing.

There was nothing here.

His eyes narrowed as he vaguely remembered something about a cloaking device. Getting out of the car, he stored it in his inventory before walking to the empty clearing.

Carefully walking around, he didn't have to search long as he felt himself pass through something light. Whether it was because of the Perception stat that he felt it, he wouldn't know.

'Found it.' Walking through what he realized was a cloaking field, he paused at what he saw.

It was an entire village and the place was literally crawling with Forever knights who were pushing tired-looking men to move around and work.

At the far end of the village, he could see a tower that stood tall. 'Zag RS.' He thought as the knights noticed him.

'And this is going to be a problem.'
