Chapter 2: Committing a Crime?

WAKE UP!!! BITCH WAKE THE FUCK UP AND TURN ME OFF!!!-

Levi woke up and slammed his hand onto the alarm clock. He raised both of his arms high into the air and stretched. He then gazed at his left arm and willed it to be invisible.

'Is this a dream?' he thought to himself.

It was easy getting lost in a dream. Differentiating what is real and what isn't is very hard. Within a dream, most people would think that what is happening is real and wouldn't even stop to think whether or not it was a dream.

Just to be sure, Levi asked himself if it was a dream and slapped himself in the face really hard leaving a faint red handprint on his left cheek. Asking himself if he was in a dream is a way of "rooting" oneself into reality. It allows him to pay more attention to his surroundings and analyze it if only for a few seconds. He slapped himself because generally in a dream because it was the most generic way of determining if something was a dream or not.

He couldn't simply just believe that he had superpowers and walk out naked, could he? He had to double check.

He got off his bed and went to the bathroom to wash his teeth. He took a bottle of mint Listercrest mouthwash and began slooshing it around in his mouth. It was in his opinion, one of humanity's greatest advancements, at least for the middle class. No more toothbrushes and shitty artificial mouthwash. The mouthwash tasted like natural mint and eliminated 99.9999% of plaque while targeting bad bacteria. It also dissolves leftover food and other things while strengthening and rebuilding the tooth crown and enamel.

Unfortunately, lower class people don't have such a luxury. They use regular old toothpaste, toothbrush, and mouthwash at least in the current century. Luckily regular hygiene items are quite cheap. A tube of toothpaste that cleans 99.99% of plaque and bad bacteria plus an electronic solar-powered toothbrush only costs around three IMC or International Mars Currency. In New Mars City, the minimum wage was fifteen IMC per hour. Only about 10% of the Martian population have rotten teeth and that is because of extreme laziness or just bad hygiene.

Levi then grabbed a bowl, poured some milk inside, and took a slice of coffee and chocolate filled babka from the fridge. As he enjoyed his breakfast he began to plan out what he would do later.

The most obvious thing to do with the power of invisibility was to infiltrate and spy. After doing some research on the internet, he stretched and put on some light and tight clothing. He put on a tight black t-shirt, light cotton sweatpants, two pairs of socks and sneakers with rubber soles. He tucked his shirt into his pants and the ends of his sweatpants into his socks. This is to reduce drag from any quick maneuvers and prevent rustling sounds while moving. He wore two pairs of socks to cushion his feet and absorb sweat which may make squeaking noises.

Although he was planning solely on sneaking around, he went to the storage room to take a taser and one of his dad's old army knives, an 11.9-inch Damascus VI steel bowie knife. Humanity had long since uncovered the secrets of Wootz steel and Damascus blades of old allowing them to pioneer new alloys and forging techniques eventually leading to the latest Damascus VI steel. The method of making it was obviously a secret amongst top tier manufacturers, but the new alloy could cut through iron like a normal knife through cold butter which is still pretty good.

To the bottom of the blade near the handle on the blunt side, a circle with three more circles was engraved. It looked like a circular fish head with its mouth open to swallow its next victim. The symbol was reminiscent of the moon Phobos. It was one of ten knives forged by a serial killer named Teddy Chikundy. He was a skilled blacksmith and knife enthusiast. A romantic blacksmith at day and serial killer by night his recorded kill count numbered somewhere in the two thousand some of whom were soldiers. His symbol was Phobos to represent the fear and horror he caused for the two decades that he roamed Mars. After his presumed death two knives disappeared with him, two more were melted, one was buried, and five remained in the collection of various people around the world.

It was rumored that Teddy had infused an unknown Martian mineral or minerals into the blade. The knives were way too sharp and hardy for Damascus VI steel to take the credit. It could be a new forging technique, mysterious unknown minerals, or a new generation of Damascus steel.

The knife that Levi had was one of Teddy's earliest works. It was modern and conforming. The knives that Teddy made later were weird and twisted to downright fantasy and impractical looking with a curved blade with sharp ends sticking out, beautiful but twisted. The ten knives reflected Teddy's slow mental decline as he fell to his psychopathic urges and depravity. Authorities reported that he was shot seventeen times before escaping into the wilderness with his first and last knives. Nobody thought he could survive and seeing that he was missing in action, people thought he was gone for good.

Anyway, Levi opened a window and hopped out. He headed to the southern area of the city, past the metropolis in the center. It was the slums of the city where the poor and criminals mix. Pretty much any "rich" guy there was evil so it was "okay" to steal from them.

So Levi casually walked to the Southern entrance of Wall Marineris. Right next to the entrance was an area lined with warehouses. Levi walked around a little and chose one based on the guards. Said guards were the stereotypical thug. Dark skin from too much time under the sun, rough looking faces, tattoos, and of course guns. He casually waited and waited...

Two hours later a truck entered the scene. He stepped behind the truck and watched as thug one went over to check. Levi, realizing that thug one was about to bump into him to check the underside of the truck, took two steps back. When thug one confirmed that that the truck was good to go, he casually followed the truck in, sticking close to it in case the doors slammed on him. He watched as more random thugs began unloading the crates and organizing them throughout the warehouse. Getting the general idea of where things were located he naturally chose to go to the crates with valuable jewelry. The only other things there were guns and drugs. He never received formal gun training from his father so he felt that it would just be a waste of time.

Levi strolled to one random crate and noticed that there was an electronic lock. He stared at it for a moment and took out his Taser then proceeded to electrocute the lock. It made hissing and released a small wisp of smoke.

A guard quickly walked over, gun raised in front of him warily looking around. He saw nothing and talked into the walkie talkie "Doggie two speaking, there's been a malfunction in cart B-772479 please send a technician over."

Since there was no one there and there was nowhere to hide unless you had superpowers, the guard left and continued his patrol. Once the guard was out of sight Levi slowly pried the crate open with his knife. The knife may not have been Teddy's best knife but slowly cutting through the iron crate was definitely in its range of capabilities. He lifted the lid and saw a lot of cushions and for good reason too.

He stared at the glittering red lights emitted within. It was a crate of cushioned Martial Bloody Lava Silk Rubies. These rubies were rare native products found only on Mars. It was a variant of rubies found after volcanoes on Mars erupted. These rubies had shades of bright crimson and red alternating according to the light. They looked a lot like blood red moving lava with the occasional gleam of golden light like a strand of golden silk was trapped within and thus giving their name Bloody Lava Silk Rubies. They were the 17th most expensive substance on Mars and the only one in the top twenty that had no practical use. The rubies were quite popular with the richest women in the city. However, due to its rarity, most of them only had a pair of earrings or a small necklace. Bloody Lava Silk Rubies were ten times as rare as normal ones. Thus, the price for one carat was 5000 IMC (International Martian Currency) as compared to the highest price per carat for a normal ruby which was 1650 IMC per carat.

Despite the large size of the crate, there were only about ten carats of pinky nail sized rubies. Levi picked out all ten of them and barbarically stuffed them into the pockets of his sweatpants. Despite being priced at 5000 IMC per carat, few were willing to sell or trade rubies so the actual price was at least 7000 IMC per carat. Truly only the billionaires in the center of the city or their lovers could afford such a thing in their collection of jewelry.

While he was casually leaving the building he overheard some thugs interrogating some poor soul about where were the rubies. He waited by the side of the main entrance as thugs flooded the place to seal the perimeter and walked out just before the gates closed.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
WetDragon WetDragon

Nothing perverted here. I am probably going to write one arc, about 50 chapters, and then drop this novel. This was originally supposed to be for competition and now it's just practice. I'm going to practice next with a fanfiction since it's so much easier. It is hard as fuck thinking of a good plot. Also, I wanted to post this up on Friday but family time so now's a good time. Have a great weekend! :)
