Chapter 1: Prologue

March 10, 2098

...It's over. We've won. Seventeen years of fighting and destruction in this goddamn war and it's finally over. One bomb is all it took. I am still astounded by the fact that 18-year-old Viktor Frazier re-created the tsar bomba. With his brains, we can overpower the entirety of Canada and South America. The power I could attain with this child is astounding and I am willing to do whatever I must to acquire it. But no one must know. No one. If they do I'll be hung or sent to stand in front of the squad...

"Do you have any explanation for what this means?" Jordeyn jabbed her finger at the battered leather cover of the journal separating her and the current president of Pento - Philip Castillo. The tips of her fingers were white as she put more and more pressure on the cover almost in restraint to her want and need of wrapping them around Castillo's throat and watch him take his final breaths.

"Jordeyn, please, I can expl-" Philip Castillo choked out. He'd written everything that happened in the last 17 years. He had written everything from the cause, time, and day of his citizen's deaths, his daily check-ins about how he had wished he'd done better, and many other awful things that Jordeyn didn't want to think about. His most recent entry: how he had stolen Viktor's blueprints and built the bomb and destroying the entirety of Russia.

She grabbed the journal roughly, slightly bending the cover as Castillo's face cringed in distaste. "You're damn right you will, or I most definitely will send you to stand in front of the squad." Her finger ran over the sentence speaking it word for word as his face paled.

"That won't be necessary Jorde," A figure walked to the doorway of the room. The temperature felt as if it had dropped drastically even though it was well below freezing already. The figure leaned against the frame as dark shadows cast upon him, revealing a jawline so sharp it could cut throats with ease and a smirk as sly as a fox. His body was toned and beads of sweat trickled down his torso. His dark eyes filled with excitement and hatred, piercing every soul in the room.

"And where have you been, Viktor?"

"Isn't it obvious, darling? I went out for a run." He strutted into the room and almost immediately, every guard in the room straightened their posture as if he had ordered them to do so.

"If you think for one fraction of a second you can call me darling and I won't attempt to murder you, you may want to rethink what you say," Jordeyn's voice was with sarcasm, and it was evident Viktor didn't approve. "However, I would enjoy if everyone could leave us be for a moment," eyeing Viktor with a smile slowly spreading across her face. The guards gave each other puzzled glances and walked out snickering, confused at the peculiar request.

Viktor locked the door as his eyes went darker than his onyx eyes. Jordeyn snuck up from behind and pinned him against the wall with a hunting knife at his throat. "Damn it Jordeyn, why do you continue to-"

"Oh, so we're on a full name basis now. What happened? Got tired of me? And I thought I told you I'd hurt you if you dared to offend me again." She scoffed, rolling her eyes and chuckling darkly.

"How did I-"

"Oh please. You know what you did. And above all other things, you're eighteen. I'm sixteen. It's illegal for God's sake." Viktor's hands slid around her waist, keeping her against him. Almost as quickly as his touch was upon her, it was gone, a slight cough reminding them that they weren't alone.

"And what do you want? I know that you stole my blueprints so I'm debating on what I'm going to do with you." Carefully, almost as if he'd hurt her, Viktor pushed Jordeyn behind him, pinning her against the wall with a hand against her chest while grabbing her hunters' knife with the other, throwing it at the leader's chest with ease. Blood trickled down Castillo's chin as he convulsed with the need for air. "And that sir, is why you don't frame me, you little son of a-"

"Viktor - do you realize what you've just done?"

"Does it look like I care in the slightest? This man tried framing me for a crime I didn't commit. I was on death row, Jorde. And above all the people that knew, I thought you were the one who'd understand and care."

"Viktor, don't be like that." Jordeyn attempted at turning him by the shoulders so he'd face her, wanting to apologize for whatever she had done.

"Be like what, exactly? Hurt? Offended?" He frantically swept his hand through his hair, his eyes brimming with tears that were threatening to take over. "Do you know what it was like in there? All alone, cold, dark, and musty with the scent of stale urine all the damn time? I didn't have anyone to feel comforted by. Everyone in there despised me for the bomb which they thought I had constructed. Yes, I am partially at fault because I was the one that drew the blue-prints, but I wasn't the one who gave them to him. I thought you'd understand since you lost both of your parents at a young age. But it appears as if I was and am wrong in every way that I can put this situation."

"Do you think that for once in our history of arguments you can not involve my dead parents? I fully understand that you wish your parents were dead for … obvious reasons, but that doesn't mean I wanted them to die. Yes, I will agree that it is partially your fault, but you can't take all the blame, Viktor." With a scoff, Viktor turned his back on her, walking out just like everyone else. She couldn't bear letting the people in her life walk away with hatred towards her.

"If you take another step towards the door, I swear over my corpse that you'll end with the same fate as Castillo. Even if it's the last thing I do, Viktor, I will murder you out of cold blood." Viktor pivoted on his heels and glared at her. An interrogating glare strong enough, that she knew if she didn't shut her mouth at that moment he'd snap her neck right there and then no matter the consequences.

But, as of right now, there was nothing more in the world that Jordeyn wanted than to give him a reason to hurt her, just so she could see how the sight of a knife embedded in his cold heart appeared.
