Chapter 47: Totally awkward

It was really awkward since Huobai came back and started playing with the team again. Especially between Yixing and Huobai. And everyone hated it.

"I decided!" Chao smacked the bowl of rice down on the table, startling everyone. They all looked at him, eyes wide opened.

"You decided on what?" Yitian questioned, asking what everyone was thinking.

"I can't take this anymore. We are having team-building," he said and Yixing dropped his chopsticks. He shook his head and picked them up again, apologizing.

"What team build-?" Yitian continued asking, but he stopped in the middle as if he got it, and started eating once again. But Yixing had no idea what it was about.

"Do you know what he is talking about?" Out of the habit he leaned towards Huobai, asking, who jerked himself and almost fell off the barstool how scared he got.

"See! That's it. That's the reason. We have no teamwork and two of our players are tiptoeing around themselves. One is totally away from us and we don't have enough time to play because of school," Chao exclaimed, and jumped down from his stool. He walked around the counter and stood before everyone else.

Yixing was interested in his rice and the pork they had. While Huobai was looking right around, just to evade Chao's gaze. But it didn't help at all.

"I'm talking about you and I'm embarrassed for you. I thought you had talked it out. But no, you are just like kids. Even worse than them," Chao continued, and Yitian chuckled while putting rice in his mouth. He choked on it and Huobai had to turn around and slap him across his back.

"Are you okay?" Chao reached over the counter, but Yitian kept coughing and laughing at the same time. He gestured that he was completely okay. So Chao continued.

"So, well, I decided on team-building activities and this Saturday we are having fun and we will help our teamwork. Shan already knows and agrees about it," he stopped talking, went back to his stool, and started eating. Then he raised his head and looked at them all.

"You have no option to refuse," he stated, and Huobai groaned. He wasn't afraid of interaction with Yixing, but he was worried about what activities Chao thought up.

It was true that his knee was better. The piece they took from his knee actually helped him, it was the one that pressed the nerve in his knee, so it didn't hurt. But it still wasn't long since he had an operation, so sports weren't a good idea.

Huobai opened his mouth to ask what the activities were. But Chao shut him down just by his gaze.

They had finished the meal in silence, and then they took care of the dishes. Actually, it was his and Yixing's time to do the dishes.

"I will load the dishwasher. Can you carry it here?" Yixing smiled at Huobai, while Chao and Yitian went on with their game again.

"Sure," Huobai answered while he gave the dishes to Yixing. Their hands accidentally brushed against each other and for Yixing, it was as if time stopped. They were just looking at each other. Then Yixing shook his head, clearing it, and took the dishes.

"I'm sorry," Huobai said and went back to get the rest of the plates. Whilst Yixing took a deep breath and tried to calm himself.

This wasn't going to help at all. The awkwardness in between them had to be addressed.

When Huobai came and put the dishes on the counter above the dishwasher, Yixing caught his hand when he was ready to leave, and stopped him from going.

"Can we meet in my room? I need to talk to you," he asked, his voice pleading. It was something that Huobai couldn't resist. It made him shiver. Mainly because of that, Yixing used the same pleading voice as he did that night.

He nodded and left. He was standing in front of Yixing's door, debating whether to come in or not. When Yitian rolled his chair over to him and smiled at him.

"Go, you really need to resolve it. This isn't like you. You are fearless. Not this chicken afraid of every move someone else does." Then he rolled back to his table again.

Huobai was stunned. He was really surprised at how right Yitian was. This wasn't like him. And he wanted to start anew. But he just repeated the same mistake over and over again. Overthinking things and being wary of someone close to him.

He entered the room and looked around. It was his first time in and Huobai was surprised at how clean and modern the room was. It was his style. Everything from furniture to the bed decor.

"This can't go on…" Yixing entered and started once he entered. Huobai just nodded and sat down in the bed. He leaned back, using his arms to hold himself up.

"I know. I will try. This was my fault. Can you come closer? I will try not to jump up." As soon as he asked, Yixing slowly came closer. But nothing happened. Huobai wasn't scared or anything. So he had no idea why he reacted like that before.

"We wanted to be friends. I think we need to know more about each other before we can do anything with the distance in between us." Yixing started and Huobai had to admit he was right. They knew only basic stuff about each other and Huobai didn't want to see the background check on Yixing.

"I agree. We should get closer. Chao's idea isn't actually that bad." Huobai smiled at Yixing, who almost collapsed because of that death blow the smile was to him.

"I know it might sound weird but would you like to go with me to visit my mother's grave… Of course, if you don't have anything to do." Yixing smiled briefly, imagining how weird it must have sounded, but Huobai looked at him shocked, but then nodded.

"Just tell me when and I will join you. You probably need company, right…" Huobai never knew that Yixing's mother was already dead, but it must have been horrible for him. Losing someone so close must have hurt.

Yixing smiled at him, his grin reaching his eyes. Because of how happy he was for that so he decided to share a bit more about himself.

"Well, my father will be there, but we currently don't have a nice relationship. So it's true I need your support." Yixing admitted, and Huobai was pitying once more.

He was now firmly decided to join Yixing.
