Chapter 7: Garp's Training

When Luffy arrived on the marine ship, he was confused by all those people he recognized. Why were all those guys here?

Luffy looked towards his grandfather in confusion.

"What are you looking at, brat?"

"I thought you would train me, old monkey. What are all those weaklings doing here?"

All the marines cried out.

"Did he call the Vice-Admiral an old monkey? Does he have a death wish?"

"Who is a weakling? Why is this little brat so arrogant?"

What shocked the marines more was that Garp started to laugh, without being bothered by his grandson.

"Do you think this old guy Sengoku would give me one year for free without consequences? Your old man is too important for that. So I had to bring all of those marine brats that had a little bit of potential so I can make them stronger with many fists and the power of love. So here we are."

Luffy sighed. Sengoku that smart old bastard. Instead of letting your strongest legend off for one year, he came up with this idea. Well, it doesn't matter. He wanted to learn from Garp, and with those marines, he had many punching bags for his training.

"You brats, this little monkey by my side is my grandson. He will become a good marine in a couple of years. Hahaha!"

The crowd was sent into an uproar again. So this boy was the grandson of the marine hero? No wonder he had the guts to be so disrespectful to the old man. He was his offspring!

Luffy looked towards his old man and couldn't help but think that he would never join the marines. They had some cool characters, but those guys were more fucked up than those criminals all over the world.

He was smart enough to keep that to himself. Unlike the goofball of a soul that housed in this body a long time ago.

He looked towards the crowd and the first one he noticed was Smoker and Tashigi. What are those guys doing here?

He realized that his interference in this world started to make huge changes. He convinced his old man to train him for a year, and that changed the fates of all those marines on this ship. Only because of him, Sengoku, the fleet admiral of the marines, decided to send this bunch away for a year. He couldn't imagine that his little request started to change the original story to this extent. Not to mention that he created two monsters ahead of time that are named Ace and Sabo.

Smoker wasn't the only one who stood out. A smoking woman with pink hair stood in the crowd, a beauty called Hina who was always talking in the third person about herself. Well, that was a beautiful surprise, quite literally.

Then he noticed another woman and couldn't help but be surprised. Wasn't that Ain? How could she be here? He never thought she would separate from Zephyr, but maybe this was the orders from the old Buddha, too. Wasn't she in this devil hunter crew now that was led by Zephyr?

Luffy didn't know any of the other guys who were on this ship, but those guys were obviously all the marines that were under the rear admiral rank and had a lot of potentials. Luffy started to sweat a little bit. Did he change the fate of those guys? Training a year under Garp was definitely a life-changer. Just think about what two years with the Dark King did to Luffy in the original story. Even Coby changed completely after Garp trained him.

It didn't matter to Luffy. In the end, all those guys weren't a threat to him, or so he thought.

.....

It was a long journey until they arrived at their destination. Luffy was happy with that because he discovered many islands on this journey with his Pokedex, so he had a general direction before he started his adventure. At this moment they were on an island that was somewhere in the Grand Line. They passed the Calm Belt easily and arrived there after a week. Sometimes it was good to be a marine, he wanted such a ship, too.

The island Garp chose for his training was like the one Rayleigh chose for Luffy's training. It seems that these old legends all had the same mindset. The only problem was that the monsters on this island weren't as strong as those from the original story. Garp had a bunch of marines that weren't as strong as Luffy was while he trained under Rayleigh.

At six in the morning, all of the marine trainees assembled and stood in a line like a well-trained army. It was because Garp ordered them to do it.

One hour past and nothing happened.

The marines started to get confused but were still standing like a well-trained army in a line. Maybe this was their first test?

Two hours passed. Then three.

After a while, the first guy couldn't stand it anymore and complain.

"Where the hell is the vice-admiral?"

After four hours, Garp finally appeared. He yawned and rubbed his eyes. It was clear for everyone that this old bastard only awoke a couple of minutes ago. They were angry, but nobody had the guts to voice their complaints out. Why would he assemble them at 6 o'clock when he would arrive at 10?

Fifteen minutes later arrived another guy. He also yawned and rubbed his eyes. He looked a little bit like the vice-admiral.

Wasn't this his grandson, Monkey D. Luffy?

"BRAT!", Garp yelled in an angry voice. "I said that we meet at 6 o'clock, how dare you to arrive here four hours later. I had to wait all this time for you! You disrespectful little monkey!"

The marines nearly fell to the ground. This old guy was shameless! He clearly arrived only a couple of minutes ago and they were the ones who had to wait for this grandfather and son duo!

After Garp greeted Luffy with a series of fists, he finally calmed down and started the first training session.

"Little brats, today I will show you two types of Haki. Many of you should have heard of it from Zephyr, you were all trained by him after all. The problem is that only a small part of you brats awakened it until this point. So that will be our focus for the upcoming year. Everyone who wants to be a vice-admiral has to have one type of Haki as a requirement."

The marines started to get motivated. They all heard of Haki, but Zephyr never really focused on that department. They all trained in Rokushiki and that was hard enough until now. The former admiral said that Rokushiki was the best way to train if you want to acquire Haki, but now was finally the time they could learn the real thing.

"LUFFY!", screamed Garp, while the crowd nearly fainted from shock.

Luffy arrived beside his grandfather with an annoyed expression. He knew what the old monkey wanted to do with him.

"The first type of Haki is Observation Haki!", said Garp. He didn't like to explain complicated things with words, he preferred a demonstration.

Luffy sat down with the back to his old man. He took off his shirt and covered his eyes with it.

The women in the crowd couldn't help but yell. You could see every muscle on Luffy's body. He was still slim and didn't look like a bodybuilder, but you could clearly see every one of his muscles. Luffy trained every day since he was five, so he would do something wrong if he didn't look like that after nine years. The astonishing thing was that this fourteen-year-old boy was now taller than he was in the original story. The reason was that he didn't eat the rubber devil fruit.

It wasn't surprising that he was tall because his grandfather was 2,8 meters big and his father arrived at 2,5 meters. Luffy hoped he wouldn't get as tall as those guys, he wanted to find a wife after all and he didn't want to have Big Mom as the only possibility. If he ended up at the height of his grandfather… That would be a problem.

The crowd was watching eagerly as Garp sent his fist to the boys back. What astonished them was that Luffy evaded all of Garp's attacks without seeing anything. They started to respect Garp's grandson a little bit. He learned Haki at this young age!

Even Smoker, Hina and Ain narrowed their eyes at this sight. They were all elite marines and older than Luffy, but even they couldn't awaken their Haki, only Ain had some success thanks to her sensei. He was a talent never before seen in the history of the marines.

If Luffy would hear their thoughts, he would laugh out loud. What history of marines? He wasn't one of them.

Garp was a little bit proud at the sight of the marine trainees. That was his little grandson! He laughed out loud and sent a punch to Luffy that he couldn't evade. He was sent flying.

The marines started to sweat at this sight. They started to understand how this training will turn out for them. This year would be painful.

"Hahaha!", Garp laughed after Luffy returned to his side. He was astonished, his grandfather showed a side Luffy never saw. He was… proud?

"SMOKEY!", screamed Garp.

Smoker gritted his teeth and walked to the monkey duo. He hated the name he was given by the marine hero, but what could he do.

Smokey was obviously useful to demonstrate the second type of Haki because he ate a logia fruit.

Garp had a cheeky grin on his face and looked at his grandson.

"Now I will show you the second type of Haki. Luffy, I want you to punch Smoker with all you got. Smoker, try to defend."

Luffy looked towards his grandfather like he was a fool. The old monkey didn't know that Luffy learned Armament Haki and trained in it for many years. The old man wanted to show his grandson that the world was big and he was still a small monkey that had to learn a lot of things. He wanted to see the astonished face of Luffy when he confronted an opponent he couldn't defeat.

Smoker was grinning at Luffy with the typical arrogance of a logia fruit user. This guy was invincible until now and you could see it on his face.

Poor Smokey was in for an awakening.

Luffy ran to Smoker and threw a punch at him. His arm was black while he punched.

Smoker was sent flying several meters, rolling on the ground and finally crashing into a stone wall. He spat out blood and looked towards Luffy like he has seen a ghost.

Garp's jaw dropped to the ground. He couldn't believe what he was seeing.

All the marine trainees had the same expression. They all knew and hated Smoker for his logia fruit. But the little monkey defeated him with a single punch!

All of them, Garp included, shouted at the same time.

"WHAT THE HELL!"

There was a minute of silence. Everyone was looking at Luffy like he was a monster. No, a monster was the wrong word. He was a devil.

Garp ran towards Luffy and grabbed his collar, screaming and spitting at his face.

"WHERE DID YOU LEARN THAT, BRAT?"

Luffy was annoyed.

"I just did a couple of years ago. While defending an attack from Sabo, it just happened…"

The marines fell to the ground. They couldn't accept this silly answer.

"It just happened? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?"

The marines couldn't take it anymore. They were all elites, the best the marine could offer in the new generation. They all had pride, trained every day like madmen, but they all started to doubt their common sense. All of them felt a feeling of defeat in front of a fourteen-year-old teenager.

The marines couldn't be blamed. Observation and Armament Haki were two different things. While Observation Haki was mainly powered by the mind, Armament Haki required a powerful body that required many years of training.

Even for Luffy, it wasn't easy to learn Armament Haki while he was a child. The reason he was so fast with it was that he had his little cheat egg - Happiny.

The silence was disturbed because a Pokeball opened on its own and a little dragon appeared in front of them.

The little dragon was obviously Gible.

Gible looked angered. Luffy never saw Gible this angry before. He opened his mouth and a ball of blue flame appeared. After that, he shot a beam of blue fire to the marine trainees.

A classic Dragon Rage attack.

And Gible was really angry.

Why? Because his master forced him into his Pokeball against his will. And why did he do that? Because he didn't want to let the marines know that he was in possession of a dragon.

The problem was that Gible hated his Pokeball. The second problem was that he was a stubborn fool. What happens if you let a stubborn dragon do something against his will? He will get angry. Really angry. And know he's out of control, with the poor marines that are the victims of the dragon's anger.

"Hahaha!", Garp laughed at the antics of Luffy's partner. "I wondered where this little guy was hidden. Where did he come from? Well, it doesn't matter. He's funny!"

The marines wanted to cry. This will be a nightmare. A one-year-long nightmare…
