Chapter 3: One year later

After Luffy recovered, he decided to make plans for the future. He was now five years old. If he remembered correctly, he would meet Shanks in two years. Garp would bring him to the mountain bandits after that because he was angry that Luffy wanted to become a pirate. Luffy wasn't sure if that was the real reason, he thought that Garp would drop him there even if he said he wanted to become a marine.

Luffy had now two years to train. He had to take advantage of his grandfather Garp. Somehow he had to convince the old man to train him. Even if he trained him only for one day every year, it was already an improvement. You have to take advantage of the fact that your grandfather is a marine hero, even if he let his five-year-old grandchild alone all the time.

After a couple of days, the dragon and trainer duo figured out that fighting wasn't the only way to get EXP and improve their strength. They started to run and trained in exercises.

Luffy needed those because in the end he was a small child and had to build up his foundation. The rubber fruit would make everything different, but he decided that he wouldn't eat it. The original Luffy was really strong with this fruit, but he risked his life with his gears and in the end, the only true benefit there was for Luffy was that he could easily kill Enel. But with his Pokemon by his side, it was definitely easy to beat Enel. Wasn't he just a strong electric-type dude? His first partner is a ground type, so he is immune to this bastard that thinks of himself as a god. He couldn't wait to see his stupid face.

Luffy and Gible trained every day. Most villagers were stunned to see the stubborn attitude of the dragon and his master. They would hunt animals in the forest and gain a little bit of money for it. Every day the animal they brought back to the village looked a little bit taller and stronger than the one of the days before.

It took them nearly three weeks for Gible to reach level 7. Luffy didn't think that it would be this hard to level up his Pokemon, but level 7 was very important for his dragon because he learned his first dragon-type attack: Dragon Rage.

He couldn't wait to test it out.

Besides that, Luffy only achieved Trainer Level 2. As a reward, he got a little bag that was like the bag in his Pokemon game. He could literally throw every item in there, it doesn't matter how big it was, so he couldn't complain.

Luffy and Gible arrived in the forest. Their target today was a huge tiger.

Luffy grinned and couldn't wait to test the new attack of his partner.

"Gible, let us roast this big cat. Use Dragon Rage!"

Gible roared and a small blue flame started to form in his big mouth. After that Gible shot a blue fire beam towards the Tiger. The poor cat couldn't even scream before he was roasted to death.

Luffy couldn't help but be shocked. Dragon Rage was too strong! One attack was enough to kill this huge tiger. Luffy would never engage a fight with this Tiger without Gible, but one new move was enough for him to kill this huge beast.

The days continued with hunting and training. Each day, Luffy would train in Haki, too. He obviously started with observation Haki. It was because he knew how to train it. He closed his eyes and Gible would hit him with a stick from behind. He couldn't train at armament Haki because he had no clue how to train it, and he was sure that his body was too weak at the moment to be successful in this Haki. Conqueror Haki was only a matter of time, in the end, he was Monkey D. Luffy, so he knew he had the potential to gain this type of Haki.

The funny thing was that Gible was stubborn enough to train in Observation Haki, too. Luffy wanted to know if his Pokemon could learn this type of Haki, it would be useful in the New World.

With this routine, one full year passed and Luffy was now six years old. He opened his Pokedex and looked at Gible's Status.

[Gible

Land Shark Pokémon

It attacks using its huge mouth. While its attacks are powerful, it hurts itself out of clumsiness, too.

Ability: Rough Skin (Enemies making contact with this Pokemon lose 1/8 of their maximum HP, rounded down.)

Nature: Adamant

Level: 13

Attacks: Tackle, Sand Attack, Scary Face, Dragon Rage, Sandstorm]

Everyone who played Pokemon would complain that a whole year would be enough to level up Gible way more than his current level, but Luffy would call these people stupid.

He trained with his dragon every day until they couldn't walk anymore and this level was the result of that. Besides that, a level 13 Pokemon wasn't strong in the Pokemon Universe but in this world, this level had a different status. You could say that Gible wasn't just a little pocket monster that could fight others for fun, he was a real dragon. Even the attacks of his partner couldn't be taken lightly.

For example, his newest attack which he acquired at level 13: Sandstorm. In the Pokemon world, this attack wasn't really that useful. When Luffy saw this attack the first time in the forest he trained, he couldn't help but be shocked.

When your little dragon can transform a part of a forest in a sandstorm, then you can only be shocked. It was a literal sandstorm, and that was no joke. Even Crocodile would scream unfair if he could see that a little Dragon could change the weather to his liking without eating the rare sand logia fruit.

The second important thing that he found out was that his Pokemon could learn more than four attacks and this was an important discovery. It made sense that a Pokemon wouldn't forget an old attack if he learned a new one, so his Pokemon could use any attack they learned in the past.

The next thing that improved was his Trainer Level. It only reached level four and that was Luffy's biggest concern. He couldn't go further because the EXP after each level would be too high and he lacked enemies he could fight. And what frustrated him the most was that he still couldn't summon a second Pokemon!

At level 3 he got a little bottle with a potion in it. This bottle could be used once a day to heal his Pokemon. After he used it once and waited 24 hours, the bottle would fill itself alone. So he had one potion every day. It was really useful, but he still preferred a second Pokemon.

At level 4 he got an item called Exp. Share. He couldn't help but curse the Pokedex. It was a useful item, but only if he had a second Pokemon! He couldn't understand the priorities of this system.

Luffy and Gible made improvements in their Haki. Well, at this point it was only Luffy that awakened his Observation Haki, but Gible was too stubborn to give up after only one year. The original Luffy learned Haki in two years, and all three at the same time, so it was no wonder that Luffy learned observation Haki in one year. It was really useful and saved him many times when he fought alone in the forest. He was now a little warrior that would mainly fight the beasts with his speed, but his strength was improving every day. He was the grandson of Monkey D. Garp, so his fist was following that example and improving every day. He only had to put enough love into it, even though the one who received his fist would end up in his stomach at the end of the day.

He and Gible wanted to start their routine but on this day was something different. Both of them saw a huge marine ship arriving in Foosha Village and Luffy couldn't help but sweat. There was only one guy with a huge ship like this that would come to this little village. His old man!

"Gible! Grandpa is here. Please, go into your Pokeball. I don't know what the old man will think if he sees you. I need you as a trump card!"

"Gible!", answered the Pokemon while shaking his head, clearly answering that he doesn't want to go into his Pokeball.

"What's wrong with all those Starter Pokemon that doesn't want to go into their Pokeballs? You stubborn lizard! You will regret this decision soon enough."

Gible let out a sound that sounded like a 'hmph' and turned to the other side.

When Luffy saw the huge man standing in front of him, he couldn't help but sweat. Garp eyed his grandson and his new companion that looked like a little ball with a huge mouth.

"Haha! Luffy, where did you find this little ball?", before Luffy could answer, he saw that his dragon was the victim of a fist of love. The poor dragon was instantly K.O., he never saw his partner being defeated in one hit.

"I warned you, stubborn fool", muttered Luffy with a grin. Then he saw that Garp had a shocked expression.

Well, he lost 1/8 of his total HP, and that because he hit a little dragon. Luffy wondered how many years has it been that he lost any HP at all. Now his grandfather looked at him with question marks in his eyes.

But then he scratched his head and laughed and greeted his grandson with the same fist of love his dragon received.

What astonished Garp was that Luffy evaded his fist.

"You, you, you…"

Garp's jaw dropped to the ground. He didn't put much strength into his fist, it wasn't that fast either, but for a six-year-old boy, this fist was not something he could evade.

Garp frowned and shot another fist towards his grandson but he evaded that easily.

After that, the villagers saw a really astonishing scene. A grandfather was attacking his young grandson with a series of fists, and the young boy was evading each attack. The mayor of Foosha Village couldn't help but sigh at this sight.

"Poor Luffy. His old man abandoned him here and the first thing he does after he sees him after many years is greeting him with a series of fists…"

This family didn't have the thing you called a healthy relationship.

Even with Observation Haki, Luffy couldn't evade Garp if he wanted to hit him. So after Garp got angry after seeing the cocky face of his grandson, the fist of love hit him like the little dragon. The fist had so much love that Luffy's world went dark.
