Chapter 111: Turn Around

Max stared and Kaido and the Yonko also 'looked' back, though he had no eyes to see from.
'The first one to become angry would lose.' - both knew that.
In that Kaido had a disadvantage as Max was naturally a calmer person. So it was more of a test for the Yonko, he had to keep his anger in check. Because as soon as he slipped, Max would be there to cut off his neck.
Kaido was the first one to act as he went to attack, but Max's punches blocked each of the bat swings easily. The space around them cracked and distorted as reality seemed to bend and stretch to their will.

Kaido wanted to get angry at his opponent and his cowardly tactics as he felt his body growing weaker but willed himself to not get angry.
Max on the other hand had noticed his opponent's dilemma and did his all to make the Yonko slip for one second. That was all he needed.
Fist and spiked bat clashed hundreds of times even as they tried to outplay the other.
But this all wasn't for nothing as Kaido was the first one to slip, Max with his future sight had planned this a hundred moves before. So now he got an opening, and gathered his Armament Haki to his fist.
Just before the hit landed, Max also changed to his Awakened Emperor Form. This was so the attack's power would increase by a dozen times.
BAAAM!!
Max directly made contact with Kaido's arm as he tried to block him from hitting his body. The Admiral's Haki entered his opponent's body and calling the technique <Internal Destruction> would be an understatement.
The Armament Haki moved like a surgical scalpel, all the power was concentrated in a singular point and cut through Kaido's bone like butter.
*Crack!*
Kaido's arm snapped like a twig as soon as they made contact. He looked at his broken arm in shock as it flapped uselessly to the side. Kaido hadn't expected his opponent's hits to do so much damage. The arm would be useless for the rest of the fight.
But that wasn't all for Max, as his fists flashed so fast that it appeared like he had a dozen hands. Each of these punches was going to hit Kaido lethally.
Fwosh!
The Yonko shot flames out of his mouth that engulfed Max, pushing him away and giving him some minor burns.
'That was close!' - Kaido gravely concluded, he had felt like his life was one second away from being over if he hadn't stopped Max's attacks from landing.
Suddenly Max's eyes widened and a Sea King the size of an island jumped out of the water. At first it went to swallow both of them, but Kaido smirked and released his Conqueror's Haki. That caused the beast to be scared and change its direction slightly, now it would only swallow Max.
Kaido smirked victoriously and got ready to attack, imbuing an enormous amount of Haki in his spiked bat.
Max also released his Conqueror's Haki, and while the fish became terrified of him too, it could no longer change directions.
Seeing this made Max want to swear out loud, but he used one of his hands to protect his skull and the other to punch the island-sized Sea King so hard that it made a hole on the creature's head as if a mountain-sized bullet passed through it.
The Sea King was dead and didn't pose any challenge to Max. But it had given Kaido an opening and the man didn't let it go as he instantly flew to his opponent's left side.
Seeing that Max had already protected his head with his arm, Kaido was a little disappointed.
Even in this position he hadn't left a lot of openings, so Kaido in a split second decided to go for the ribs. Though as it seemed, Max predicted this already as the area the spiked bat was going to hit turned dark as it was imbued with Haki.
Baaam!
Though Max saw the future and concentrated all of his Haki where the hit would land, it wasn't enough as he felt all the ribs on his left side snap like twigs.
*Crack!* *Crack!* *Crack!*...
Kaido's devastating hit wasn't stopped even from Max's monstrously strong Awakened Form. But the latter hadn't given up yet, as Kaido had also left himself open after the attack.
If it became an exchange between damage, Max was also confident in being able to land more critical hits than he would take. Because he had Future Sight, attacks could be predicted and openings become very clear in the opponent's guard.
Pew!
Suddenly, from far away a laser shot out and Max tilted his head backward, dodging what would have been a head-shot. He then jumped back, creating distance from himself and Kaido.
Looking towards the attack, he saw a big ship far away and a round man leading it.
Max tried to heal his bones, but it wasn't possible to heal them mid-battle. The damage he had taken had passed the threshold he could recover from quickly. He had also lost the chance to land a decisive attack on his opponent due to the laser attack.
Max could see it now, he was losing the fight. It was due to outside interference mostly, but that didn't change the fact that since the Sea King distraction, he no longer was sure of his victory.
These things always happened during battles and one small outside factor could change everything.
'Just when I had finally learned to do Garp's Punch. I wanted to test it a little more, but this battle will only go downhill from here.' - thought Max regretfully. He could sense a ship full of powerful Beast pirates getting closer, the laser beam was shot from there too.
Unlike many other people, Max knew when to back off. He had wanted to kill Kaido in this battle and get rid of the man, but if he insisted on that there was a higher chance of him ending up dead instead of his opponent.
So he decided to do the reasonable thing and turn around.
"Negan!" Max called out.
BOOOOM!!!
Lightning rained down from the sky and the clouds cleared up revealing a giant dark sphere in the sky.
"You ready?" loudly asked Max.
Electricity gathered in a single point in the sky and slowly formed into a smiling Negan. "Yep. Ready to destroy this place."
Max nodded and his legs buffed up to the size of half his body.
<Emperor Jet>
POW!
He kicked off the air and it sounded like a gunshot as Max broke through the sound barrier. Each time he kicked, friction would ignite the air behind him leaving a trail of fire behind like a jet plane.
Negan saw this and immediately ignited the giant dark pulsating sphere in the sky.
That sphere had the potential to destroy an island so that was something that couldn't be ignored. Especially since the Beast Pirate ship had also just entered its range.
BOOOOOOM!!!

-Max POV-
The air behind me crackled and it felt like an atomic bomb exploded behind me. There was a reason I gave the Lightning Devil Fruit to Negan. Because it had the destructive potential to match the strongest Devil Fruits out there and only someone I trusted must have access to this power.
"That was badass," Negan flickered next to me in his lightning form. "Do you think that killed Kaido?"
"I doubt it," while the attack had the power to kill the Yonko, I still wasn't hoping that it would do so.
Unless I see Kido's dead body and confirm it was him, then in my mind he will still be alive and I will be on guard for his next attack. Still, though, that poison I have inflicted on him won't be so easy to get rid of.
"From now on, we will go on the attack," I told Negan. Big Mom or Kaido, one of them must be killed or else they might form an alliance and it was something that would mean a lot of trouble for me.
Both of the Yonko held some grudge and might decide to get rid of me. Then the best I could do was get out of the New World. This place would become a death trap with no place where I would be safe.
"The Yonko must be eliminated as soon as possible."

A/N: Max was winning, and even had backup plans. But neither worked due to outside interference. Well, battles sometimes go like this, 3rd parties interfere in a fight and it changes the outcome.
P.S: Max isn't essentially stronger than Kaido, but if they fought, he would be confident in winning against the man. Especially now that his Haki has developed to another level.
