Chapter 1: Chapter 1 (Prologue)
(It might be boring for some, but I will try my best to make the story more interesting. So, you can read it or wait till I write the next chapter.)
In the busy streets of London, a random person is watching the news on his phone about the latest controversial step by the government.
The news reporter announced "The military has continued their crazy raid again yesterday and 52 confirmed deaths have been reported.
This has been going on for a week all over the world and there have been 100,000 reported deaths. According to our sources, we think that this might continue for a while, as there have been 500 million players of the game "The last Survivor"
The survivors are all scared of the recent steps taken by the government. There have been many protests and rallies, but since this idea was approved by over 80% of the world there is no..." The person turns off his phone and goes to work.
At the same time, a military jeep stops in the woods close to London. Five armed soldiers get down the jeep and the leader of the group says as he points to a wooden house "Ok guys, here is our next target. His name is Peter and he is the only one living in this house. So, of you see anyone shoot."
Then a soldier raises his hand and asks "Do we really need 5 men for a civilian? That too, a player."
Their leader replied "I don't know, but I was asked to be careful of this person, as he adapted to the game very quickly." and started moving, with the rest following him.
The person who asked the doubt asks the soldier beside him "Don't you also think this mission of killing civilians is ridiculous is too ridiculous?"
"We have orders and we need to follow them. Now shut your stinky mouth and just spread out." he replied.
Five soldiers surround the house and their leader signals them to move forward. Two soldiers stood near the door while the rest three soldiers each stood near a window.
The leader, who is near the door, nods and signals the other soldier to kick down the door. Immediately when the door was kicked open, the whole area around the entrance explodes.
The explosion shot out countless small pebbles and glass shards. Since the leader and the soldier were near the door, they got caught in the explosion, with the leader taking way less damage than the other one.
A soldier who was near, came running to them immediately and looked at the soldier who had glass shards in his neck and body, and many wounds due to the pebbles, struggling to breathe.
The leader asked "How is he?" and he replied "I don't think he can make it sir."
Since they were sent to kill civilians and the government planned to kill many targets simultaneously, no group was given any bullet proof vests or any sort of protection due to which they took quite a lot of damage. The soldier then asked the leader "What about you sir?"
The leader replied "I will be fine. Be careful, this isn't an easy target. Since it doesn't smell similar to the usual explosives, he must have made it himself."
The other two soldiers heard the explosion and they also came to the entrance. The leader gave out his order "Going through the windows would only be foolish. Go through the main door itself and proceed with caution. He is no longer just a civilian."
They nodded and entered the house, which had dust and smoke from the explosion, making it harder to see. As soon as the first soldier entered the house, with his gun pointed forward, it touched a thin fishing wire.
He shouted "Move back, there are many traps inside." and they waited till the smoke cleared and the wires were visible.
They proceeded with caution, making sure they don't touch a single wire. They searched the whole house and decided to go to the first floor.
They went with caution and arrived at a single bedroom in the first floor. This time however, they didn't kick down the door and were thinking of ways to open it when they heard a voice from other side of the door "Open the door, there are no more traps."
They obviously didn't believe him and a soldier brought a chair to guard himself. Although it wouldn't do much against an explosion, it can atleast protect them against fatal injuries.
A soldier volunteered to do it while the other two stood far from the door. He then rushed towards the door and without much resistance, it opened.
After looking around and noticing nothing dangerous, he signalled the others to enter the room. They looked around the room, which only a small source of light on the roof and an air vent at a corner, and didn't find anyone.
Just when they thought of leaving the house, they heard a voice from behind a wall say "Are you going to leave without killing me? Doesn't that mean your friend died in vain?"
This managed to piss off all three soldiers. They immediately turned back and looked for their target. As they were searching, a wall rotated like in moves, revealing a skinny man in his 20s, with brown hair and black eyes.
He raised his hands before they shot and said "Wait, I want to talk to you guys before I die."
Soldier 1 shouted "Who would want to talk to a murderer like you?" but didn't shoot.
'You are going to let me speak.' Peter thought and asked "I remember the explosion at the front door going off and injuring two people. Why is no one injured among you three?"
"Kevin died because of that explosion. You just became the enemy of the military. You can't escape from us, and even if you did, you will be killed by others." Soldier 1 shouted.
Soldier 2 then said "I can tell that you are buying time. If you are planning something, I advise you to stop. You can't fight the whole military and the government. Also, you will make other players look like criminals."
"I know I can't survive against you guys in this state. Soldier, let me tell you something important." Peter said and paused for a while before continuing "What makes you think I care about others? They deserve to die. Also, I don't need to stall for time, I have already prepared my message for the world." ending his speech with a smile.
They all understood that something was wrong and immediately fired. Peter died and started falling down. Before the soldiers could breathe a sigh of relief, they noticed a wire tied to his waist.
As his body fell, the wire was pulled and it triggered a series of explosions all over the house, starting from the room where Peter died.
The leader, who was standing outside, waiting for his team to return, saw the whole house collapse in seconds.
He was extremely angry and sad about the death of his team, but within his mind came a thought he didn't like "He took out 4 trained soldiers even though he can hardly run. With these survival instincts, if he was in the army, he would have been an excellent soldier."
As for Peter, he was shocked to be floating before a weird light which was talking to him. "I am really confused as to what you are. Are you God?" Peter asked.
"What a rude child? He is asking my identity after entering my domain." the light said. "Well, I went through a lot till now and I have serious trust issues. Unless you can prove this to be real, I don't think we can move forward."
As soon as Peter finished saying, the light became bright and his body was completely in pain. Soul, if you want to be precise.
"Argh .... I believe you. This is real. Now stop this." Peter said and after a while, the pain stopped and the light went back to the usual brightness.
"I like you kid. Your tone didn't change even after seeing my power." The light said.
"Well, I know that it is good to act weak and submissive sometimes, but I don't like being looked down upon by anyone. I would rather die with pride than live under someone." Peter replied.
The light immediately became bright and started laughing, as it found Peter's words amusing, but Peter was having a bad time under the tremendous pressure from the light.
The light immediately noticed Peter and calmed down. It said "I like you more kid. For you to have even made it here. you must be mentally strong. Tell me your story. If I like it, I might give you a chance to reincarnate."
"Or else...?" Peter asked and the light said "I will send you back to hell, where you can spend eternity working for them."
"I don't have any other choice then. Again, I have confidence that it would be better than any other human on earth. So, do I go in detail, or ..." Peter asked.
"You don't have to. I can get to know the details with my divine knowledge." the light said.
Peter wanted to tell "What's the point of me telling you then?" but he stopped himself, as he didn't want to waste time.
He started "My life till 20 was normal. I had parents, who died when I was 15 and after struggling for a while, I managed to get into a university with enough scholarship. After my graduation, I was looking for a job. I applied for various jobs. That's when I got a mail from a gaming company I didn't apply to.
They offered me money for testing out a VR game they made. After I accepted, a VR set was delivered, which looked like a brainwashing helmet.
The VR game was called 'The Last Survivor'. The plot of the game followed a very common novel plot of going to an unknown world with powers and guilds.
We first had a tutorial round in a jungle and then they took us to a world in medevial period. They had monsters, dungeons and a demon lord.
It was kind of multiplayer, with 1,000,000 people in each server. The VR was completely lifelike and it felt like the tech was straight out of anime or a Sci-fi movie.
Everything sounds normal till now, but it took a turn at the starting of the tutorial itself. Some strange figure made an announcement copied from Sword Art Online, that we can't leave the game till we complete the game and if we died here, we would die in real life.
We all believed it because the game company was strange and no one heard of it before. In the game, I became the ruler of the whole world, making an empire and was so strong that I defeated the demon lord alone.
After completing the game and returning to the real world, everyone found out that the gaming company was sponsored by the government.
Our world had shortage of resources and food production decreased a lot after the sky has thick black clouds due to pollution. Only selected places had sunlight. So, with decreased production of food, crime started increasing.
The world leaders wanted workers who would work faithfully for the government, hence they started the game experiment, targetting all the jobless youths. They were searching for workers, but the results shocked them.
When under danger, the true nature of a human is revealed. Many players became cruel and murdered people to survive.
This made the government decide to kill all these criminals before they could do a crime. So, they sent their military to kill all these people based on a game.
Since the gameplay was broadcasted in every country, the public also felt scared and supported the government.
Since we were in a state similar to a coma, no one could resist much. As for me, I killed 4 soldiers before dying."
"Hmmm... it was a good story, but I heard better ones. You still managed to keep me entertained the whole time, so you earned your reincarnation." the light said.
"Do I have any choice or something like a power?" Peter asked and the light replied "No. Just reincarnating you with your memories is too much of a power for a person."
The light became bright again and Peter disappeared from the place.
