Chapter 154: The Chief Warden
"It's the Chief Warden: Magellan! We are so screwed!" Buggy cried.
"Chief!" Saldeath called while struggling with Vivi's hold.
Magela turned to look at her.
"Let go of my nephew and I may spare your life."
"This guy is dangerous…" Luffy goes into a fighting stance, a drop of sweat falling across his face.
Vivi placed her free hand around Saldeath's neck.
"Stand back if you care about this little guy…or else" She tightens her hold, making him choke in pain.
"Stop that!" Magellan shouted with obvious worry on his face. He then took a few steps back and did not move.
"Stay there!." She warned.
"You think that a hostage is going to save you? You damn pirates!, you will never leave this place!. You were doomed the moment you entered." Magellan threatened.
"What do we do now?" Asked Sanji.
"I'll fight him and you guys keep going down." Said Luffy.
"Captain." Called Vivi. She then walked to his side and handed the little demon.
"Hold this guy tightly. He is your key to finding Ace. Do not let him go no matter what."
"What do you mean?" Luffy took hold of the little demon.
"Vivi, what are you doing?!" Exclaimed Nami.
"Leave this guy to me. We are looking for your brother, you will need to be there. And this guy is a bad opponent to anyone who likes to fight up close. Is best if I'm the one who faces him." Explained Vivi.
"We are not going to leave you alone with this guy!" Shouted Sanji while pointing at Magellan.
Luffy looked at her with a serious expression, considering her words.
"Fine…"
"What?, Luffy, we can't leave her here!" Said Nami.
"I made my decision!" Luffy spoke with authority that left no room for argument. He then put Saltdeath over his shoulder.
"Let's go!"
Luffy started to run away from the Chief Warden.
Nami, Sanji, and Chopper looked at Vivi with worry. Buggy had already left after Luffy, wanting to stay as far as possible from Magellan.
Vivi saw their hesitation.
"I'll catch up to you after I'm done with this."
Magellan saw the trio of Strawhats running away and decided that he could not let this chance go. The one that had the hostage was their Captain and he was already a good distance away.
"You are not going anywhere!" Poison mist escaped his mouth as he spoke.
"Hydra!" A huge mass of pure poison left his body and transformed into a three-headed serpent that went straight for Sanji, Nami, and Chopper, taking them by surprise.
"What is that?" Shouted Nami in horror.
"That looks like poison!" Chopper realized immediatly.
"This guy is a logia user?!" Exclaimed Sanji. "A poison logia…ah!" He then realized why Vivi said that Magellan would be a bad opponent to any close-range fighter. It would be almost impossible for either him or Luffy to hit him without getting affected by the poison. Chopper would be no better and Nami was not strong enough to defeat someone of this caliber, leaving her as the only one.
"I see…tsk!, I don't like this but she is right. We will only get in the way here!."
The hydra approached them and Sanji was about to make a move then a blast of water impacted against the poisonous creation, diluting most of its body into the water and forcing it to lose its shape a bit.
Sanji took the chance, he grabbed Nami and Chopper before disappearing from the spot they were in, leaving Vivi alone.
"You better not die! I would never forgive you!" Nami screamed as she was being carried away.
Vivi retrieved the water spent after removing the poison.
"Dying to this guy?..."
"I heard about you…" Magellan stared at her. "The only water logia user recorded in history. Do you think you are safe because you can dilute my poison a bit? You have no idea of what I can do!."
Vivi did not bother correcting any of his statements. Instead, she got ready to fight.
Level 4 was mostly composed of narrow bridges that went over the sea of flames covering the entire floor. A gigantic cauldron was placed in the middle and cells were all over the other walls.
The area where Vivi and Magellan were standing was the one right outside the stairs that lead to level 3. There was a circular floor, big enough to fight without having to worry about falling into the pit of flames.
The temperature at this level was extremely high. Easily surpassing 70°C(158? F). Something like that would kill most people in hours, but the ones locked in here were all criminals with bounties over 70 million and not that easy to kill.
Magellan reformed his hydra and then started to chew onto something. A purple bubble came out of his mouth and he spew it out at the flames near Vivi.
As soon as the bubble touched the flames, it created a big explosion.
She was able to easily avoid it, but the explosion was not the true danger of this attack. The poison contained inside the bubble had now scattered all over the place.
The prisoners started to cough and tried to cover their mouths using their prison garbs to avoid breathing the poison.
"Is he trying to kill us all?!"
"Why is he fighting here?"
The inmates complained loudly enough for everyone to hear.
Vivi breathed in the poison too but her healing abilities kicked in and purified the poison out of her body before it caused any harm.
"Something like this will not be enough to stop me."
Magela created a path of poison that connected with his hydra and traveled inside it. Moving at incredible speed through it until he came out of the hydra's mouth and flew toward Vivi's.
"I know that!" He shouted before removing one of his horns and using it as a weapon to attack her.
Vivi was about to move away when she felt her body much heavier. It was then that she realized that the poison from before was a paralytic type.
'Tsk...how sneaky.'
With no more time to dodge, she blocked the attack with her right arm. A loud hissing noise was heard as the black horn made contact with her skin.
"You are dead!" Magellan smiled.
