Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Which Grandfather Doesn’t Care for His Grandson?

After Whitebeard made the announcement, the squad captains seemed to have anticipated it and didn't react much. Only Lin Yan looked surprised. What was going on? How had he become a captain? After all, he had only joined the Whitebeard Pirates for a day or two. To become a captain in two days was too fast!

Lin Yan looked up and met Whitebeard's gaze.

"You… you're not joking, are you?" Lin Yan's shock was evident in his eyes.

"Of course not! Lin, go ahead and do what you need to do. This is what you deserve!" Whitebeard smiled warmly at Lin Yan. He was curious to see how far Lin Yan, who came from the Whitebeard Pirates, could go on the sea.

"Congratulations, congratulations!" The other squad captains smiled and congratulated him. Lin's strength was evident. Since they had all been beaten into silence by him, if he didn't become a captain, it wouldn't make sense.

Soon, congratulations echoed throughout the meeting room. The news quickly spread across the Moby Dick. Surprisingly, not only did the squad captains not oppose it, but even among the 1,600 crew members on the Moby Dick, no one objected either. In the pirate world, strength is respected. If you have the strength, whatever you do is right.

They raised their hands in support of creating a new squad for Lin Yan.

Some even timidly asked if, since the new squad had just been formed and was short on staff, they could transfer to the Seventeenth Division?

"Gurararara!"

"How about we hold a banquet to celebrate the founding of the Seventeenth Division?" Whitebeard laughed heartily.

"Enough, Dad!" Marco turned his head and scolded when he heard that Whitebeard wanted to use this as an excuse to drink.

Thus, the matter of the Seventeenth Division was settled.

At the same time, news from the Whitebeard Pirates quickly spread across the seas. The newspaper's content was simple: the Whitebeard Pirates had formed a new division, and the captain was Lin Yan, who had not been with the Whitebeard Pirates for long.

At Marine Headquarters, Marineford, the Navy was recently interacting with Marshall D. Teach. The two seemed to be conspiring, though no one knew what they were plotting. Upon hearing about the new division in the Whitebeard Pirates, Sengoku, with his hand on his chin, calmly said while looking at the confidential document in his hand, "As expected, that guy still became the new division captain, huh?"

"Admiral, according to our sources, this Lin defeated thirteen Whitebeard Pirates division captains on his own before becoming the Seventeenth Division captain. His strength is formidable!" a colonel reported. Lin Yan's feat of defeating several division captains had already reached them.

"Lin may become a formidable opponent for us," Vice Admiral Tsuru, removing her glove, sipped her tea and said calmly.

"There's not a single Whitebeard Pirates division captain who's easy to deal with. Now, almost all of them have been defeated by Lin Yan. His strength should not be underestimated!"

"No need to worry too much. No matter how strong he is, he's just a Whitebeard Pirates division captain. If they want to shake the entire sea, even the current Whitebeard might not be able to do it. However, the younger, peak Whitebeard might have had a chance," said Garp, chewing on his rice crackers, not overly concerned with Lin Yan.

Indeed, what status did Garp hold in the Navy? He was one of the few who could disregard these division captains.

"Admiral, there is another matter worth your attention. According to reports from Sabaody Archipelago, Kidd, Trafalgar Law, Jewelry Bonney, and other Supernovas have recently landed there!"

"These Supernovas are not ones to stay idle. We should be cautious of them!" the colonel suddenly mentioned Sabaody Archipelago.

The Four Emperors of the New World were strong, but they were conservative, wary of each other, and didn't cause much trouble. However, the Supernovas were different. They feared nothing, reckless as newborn calves, and weren't afraid to stir trouble.

"Oh? Are the Supernovas gathering at Sabaody Archipelago?"

"What about Luffy? Has Luffy reached Sabaody yet?" Garp, upon hearing about the Supernovas, quickly put down his rice crackers and asked.

Even though his grandson was particularly rebellious, no matter what trouble Luffy caused, he was just a child to Garp.

Moreover, the reason Luffy managed to escape the Navy multiple times after causing trouble was partly due to Garp's interference.

As the saying goes, grandparents tend to be closer to their grandchildren. What grandfather doesn't love their grandson?

"Uh... well... according to our spies, the Straw Hat crew has not yet landed at Sabaody."

"Not yet landed? Then it's still early!" Garp nodded.

"Garp! Don't tell me you're planning to rig things again and let the Straw Hat crew safely pass through Sabaody and enter the New World!" Sengoku's sinister gaze fixed on Garp.

Sengoku had scolded Garp countless times for his behavior, but this guy just wouldn't change his ways. Sengoku understood protecting one's own, but Garp's actions were too blatant!

"No, absolutely not!" Garp, feeling guilty, turned his head and whistled.

Meanwhile, news of the formation of the Seventeenth Division of the Whitebeard Pirates reached the Red-Haired Pirates.

"Whitebeard actually created a new division for this newcomer. It seems this Lin is quite capable. How about we board the Moby Dick and recruit Lin?" Shanks laughed after taking a sip of wine.

"Captain, that's too mean!" said Lucky Roo, the plump member of the Red-Haired Pirates, while biting into a drumstick.

"You wanted to recruit Marco and Jozu before, and now you want to recruit Lin. If you succeed, Whitebeard might come after you," Yasopp, the sharpshooter of the Red-Haired Pirates, laughed.

"A bunch of old rascals!" First Mate Benn Beckman chuckled and shook his head.

Shanks paid close attention to the Whitebeard Pirates. When he was an intern on Roger's ship, the Whitebeard Pirates were their old rivals.

As one of the remaining overlords of the old era, Whitebeard deserved Shanks' respect and attention.

After the Red-Haired Pirates, various other factions also learned of the Seventeenth Division's formation. Big Mom's crew, Kaido's crew, the Warlords of the Sea, even the Supernovas and ordinary pirates along the Grand Line.

If Lin Yan joining the Lin Yan joining the Whitebeard Pirates was just a prelude, his sweeping victory over the Whitebeard division captains and his appointment as the Seventeenth Division captain quickly made him famous worldwide. Newspapers and news flooded in about him, dominating the headlines for a long time. At that moment, everyone remembered the name Lin! However, regardless of the commotion, reports, or headlines outside, Lin's focus remained unwavering.
