Chapter 4: Frost

"Frost!" Volt yelled as he and Nyx approached.

Patrick instantly turned around when he heard that name.

"Who are you and why do you know that name?" He asked as he looked them over.

"It's okay man. I'm Alan, but you can call me Volt. And she's-."

"Nyx, or Leah if you prefer."

"Yea, yea that's great and all but what do you want? I gotta get home soon."

"I don't know if you heard about the bank heist on the news?"

"Yea, I have. Some "heroes" stopped it, in fact, Leah was there wasn't she?" Patrick glanced at Nyx when he said this.

"Excalibur has a strong sense of "responsibility and justice." But not all of us are cut out to be heroes right? I want you guys to help me confront him, so we can choose to be heroes or not." Nyx tried her best to reason with Patrick but it didn't seem to affect him much.

"Hmm, while I do agree with you guys that we should be able to choose. I don't want anything more to do with this insanity. I just want to live my life you know? So if he has a problem with it I'll handle him myself if the time comes."

Patrick started to walk away, so Volt shot a look at Nyx about what to do next.

"Do we just give up on him? You said there was one more person right?"

"He just needs a little more convincing."

"Well, I guess I did want to test out my Warframe." Volt sighed as he knew the action he was about to take was both foolish and stupid. Nonetheless, he couldn't help himself from wanting to fight Frost. It was late in the day and most people already left the school. That combined with the several unkempt trees near the entrance prompted Volt to take a rash action.

"Hey Iceman, do you skate better than you run?" Volt said he transformed.

"What do you think you're doing?" Patrick said with an angry tone.

"I want to see if you're strong enough to back up your words. So, hurry up and let's go, since you're so keen on leaving."

"You're fucking kidding me right? Fine, whatever. Just don't complain if Leah is forced to carry your sorry ass home." Patrick dropped his backpack and transformed as well. The transformation could only be described as falling backwards in to nothingness. Then their Warframes would appear from nowhere.

(Well this wasn't what I exactly had in mind. Boys are supposed to become friends after they beat the living daylights out of each other, right?) Nyx thought as she moved to the side. They were near the entrance of the school but the setting sun was casting long shadows where they were. Outsiders probably couldn't see what was happening, but their fight might attract onlookers later on. But if there weren't too many, Nyx was sure she could probably take care of them herself.

Frost and Volt stared at each other for half a second before deciding their next moves.

Volt ran forward in order to close the distance and take Frost down quick.

[Ice Wave]

The ice formed in about a two-meter width and would encompass almost all of Volt's intended path. But it was too slow to be used in both the time Frost cast it and when it actually came out.

With the delay in mind, Volt got in to another sprint, hoping to catch Frost this time.

[Speed]

Though it gave him only a little boost, it should be more effective since he was already this close.

"What the?" Frost had almost no experience with using his frame, but he acknowledged that Volt's agility was a problem his frame couldn't deal with right now. His [Ice Wave] took up half of his current energy pool and it missed. He had to rely on his wits instead of this frame's abilities right now.

Frost raised his arms to guard his face and hunched a bit when Volt send a punch flying to his face.

"Heh, not bad, you think pretty fast."

But while Frost was acknowledging Volt's skill, Volt had already made his next move. He immediately stepped to the right when Frost blocked his hit. Then Volt used his right leg as the base to twist the left side of his body forward. This provided extra momentum for his left fist that came in low, under Frost's guard.

"Kuh!?"

It was a direct hit to Frost's chest! But Volt was surprised, it felt like he was punching a brick wall. And in that moment, Frost reared his head backwards to start a head butt.

(Agh! Damn, what's his frame made of?)

(Frost is a defensive Warframe and as such, his armor value is significantly higher than yours, operator.)

(How much does he have?)

(Frost's armor value is 300.)

(What the hell? And mine is only 15!?)

Frost and Volt watched each other carefully as they tried to anticipate each other's next move. Frost was worried that Volt would overtake him if he used up all his energy. Meanwhile, Volt was trying to work out a solution to Frost's defenses.

Finally, tired of watching, Volt leaped towards Frost with his right fist. Volt was too close, so Frost couldn't use his abilities since their casting delay was too long. Instead, Frost decided to lean heavily on his fighting skills. His Warframe was defensive, so he would do his best to wait until Volt got to tired and then beat him down. As a result, Frost moved backwards to avoid Volt. This happened three more times with Volt attacking and Frost back stepping.

(Interesting, even though he wants to leave, Frost isn't rushing to put an end to this. But if you can't attack Volt, then he will break through. Which one of you will outsmart the other first?) Nyx thought as Volt lunged at Frost.

"You just don't learn do you?" Frost said as he prepared to move backwards.

[Shock]

"What the!? Gah!"

As he was moving backwards, Volt suddenly shot lightning towards Frost's right knee. His shields took the brunt of it but it still hurt him quite a bit. This attack caught him off guard and Volt did not hesitate to capitalize on it.

[Shock]

Once more, lightning flew at Frost and this time, it was hitting him in the face.
