Chapter 1: Unlucky or lucky?
An old man is drinking Coca-Cola with a leisurely smile and looking at his front.
In front of him is sitting a young man who is a little nervous. He looked at the old man and thought about how things had come to this.
~Flashback~
My name is or was Shiva. I am your regular normal Indian citizen.
I had a pretty good life when I was alive. A good stable job with enough earnings to fend off me and my family.
Though it was a monotonous life as it was just office to home and home to office, I was still happy with it. I was even thinking about marrying and settling down.
But maybe I was so lucky to experience that life. I died a pathetic death.
When I was returning from my work I was robbed by a drug addict for some money. I didn't try to act like a hero. I give him all the money I had but, that fucker in his state of intoxication stab me with his knife.
He quickly ran from there after that. Didn't even bother with a human dying in front of him.
It was at that moment I understood how fragile human bodies are. And how pathetic we humans are. We would kill one another just for a few thousand rupees.
The only thing I had in my mind was how sad my mother and father would be. Though I have an older brother who can take care of them, I was still reticule to leave them.
After my death, my soul came to this afterlife. I was never really a religious guy. But my mother would still force me to go to the temple with her.
The first time I came I saw a big line of people going towards one place. I thought that should be the place where we would get judged.
I don't know how long I was on the line. There was no sense of time here. We don't feel hungry or tired here. But surprisingly we can't talk or move from our place.
All we can do is move forward. Like this was my or our instinct.
After a long long time, I finally arrived at the place where we should be judged.
But as soon as I entered, music rang all around the place. I look up and around confusingly 'I Can move my head now.'
Before I could try to see if I could talk, a man said "oh, you are really lucky. Every thousand years a soul will be lucky enough to get the chance of reincarnation without getting punished for your sins. Moreover, you will get a few rewards too."
He looked down at me like a Giant 'how can someone be so tall?' He said, "I will send you to the Reincarnation Division." He pulled out a tag and gave it to me and said "give this to the person at work he will know what to do. Your reincarnation is different from other souls."
He then sent me with a wave of his hand without listening to anything from me.
With a puff, I vanished from there and came to another place.
The first thing I saw was an old man eating a burger and watching football on the tv.
He turned around and looked at me. He then noticed the tag in my hand and looked at me again. "You are lucky aren't you little one?"
I smiled bitterly when I heard him. I again remember how I died. But he is right though. I can reincarnate without punishment, which is already good.
The old man finished his burger and said to clean his hand. He then looks at me and asks as he drinks Coca-Cola "so tell me, where do you want to reincarnate?"
~Flashback end~
I look at the old man confusedly. 'What does he mean where. Am I not going to reincarnate on earth?"
The old man chuckle and said, "yes you can if you want to."
I look at him and ask hesitantly "then why did you ask where?"
"Well because earth is not the only realm in this vast Omniverse. There are countless universes out there and earth is just one of many." The old man said smilingly.
I was shocked after hearing him. "Are aliens real?"
"Hahaha, according to your realm concept, yes they are real." The old man said with a laugh.
I feel a little shy after hearing him. The old man then continued "even, all the books, novels, Manga, Anime, movies, and Tv shows you have seen until now are real."
I look at the old man in astonishing disbelief. The old man smirks and asks "what? You don't believe me?"
I hurriedly shake my head. I am not stupid enough to argue with someone like him. But I really wanted to know how they can be real.
The old man chuckled and said, "it's because those books, anime or movies, you see or read are published by the respective world's gods."
He leaned back on the chair and said "sometimes God take pride in their creation so much that they show off with it. And the best way is to publish in a myriad of worlds and get praise from fans."
He then waved his hand and said "don't think about that stuff. Now tell me where you want to reincarnate."
I ask him "won't those gods get angry if I reincarnate in their world and mess with their creations?"
The old man waved his hand and said "of course, they would. Who likes others to mess with their creations?"
Before I could ask, the old man said "that's why everyone came to a conclusion. That is the AU of that Universe. Every world has countless AU, with different percentages of similarities. It goes from 99% to 1%. The lower the number the more it will be different from the original story."
It was really shocking for me to know all this knowledge. But now many things have become clear to me.
I look at the old man and ask "which percentage of similarities can I go to?"
The old man said "you are a special case. One in every thousand years can get this chance. So you can select which similarities you want to go."
I feel delighted hearing this. This will be good for me. What if I got to a world where it is vastly different from the world I know. What will I do then?
Then suddenly something struck me. I look at the old man and ask "will I be keeping my memories?"
The old man nodded and said "how will you enjoy your reincarnation if you can't remember your past memories. Otherwise, it wouldn't be any different than normal reincarnation."
I am now really happy. I then remembered all the novels and anime I have watched. Yes, before my death I was a fan of fantasy stuff. I used to spend my leisure time reading or watching them.
I can't say I am a web nerd but I have seen many anime, TV shows, and movies and also read many novels.
I remember reading that all those lucky MCs get the chance to reincarnate and live a new life of supremacy.
Suddenly I remembered something and asked the old man "will I get wishes like those novels?"
The old man chuckled and said "you will but nothing too exaggerated. The amount of energy I can spend on you is limited."
I am already happy with everything. Just getting the chance to reincarnate is already awesome.
The old man gave me a paper and said "you can fill this paper and I will then decide."
I look at the paper and there are only four blank columns for me to write.
First is the world, I suppose this is where I write where I will reincarnate.
The second is My race. I can select which Race I will be in. I can also customise my look if I want to.
The third is a special ability I can choose. But it is stated that my ability should be related to my race.
And fourth and final, A wish. But I already know that this can't be too exaggerated as the old man already said.
I look at the paper and thought hard about everything. After an hour I finally decided and start to write on the paper.
