Chapter 2: Cole Sinai

TODAY was finally the day of the project. I had to wake up earlier than usual and dress in my best and neatest lab coat. My favourite man, I thought.

Mum was really enthusiastic concerning the project AG. She was going to be in charge of the seminar between the six factions.

"Cole dear, please get ready to leave. We move in fifteen minutes," she yelled from the kitchen.

That old woman was too happy. I didn't want to go but as usual Dad had to be the Thoth Dominus.

"I am not going anywhere," I grumbled, "I can't leave. If anyone wants to go anywhere it shouldn't be me."

"Cole can I come in?" Dad asked.

Oh shit, why did he have to come persuade me.

"I'm sort of busy. I have a project for school. Really important."

"It'll be fast," he promised.

"Fine Dad," I finally agreed, "Come in."

I was the exact replica of my Dad. I had auburn hair styled in dreadlocks which I occasionally tied in a ponytail. My tall stature was from my Dad and my cinnamon skin from my Mum.

"Cole I know you are not interested in coming to the seminar but please do this for your Mom. You know how happy she was when all this started."

The Father-Son talk had finally started. I was wandering when he was going to bring it up.

"Dad, I get it. It's not that I don't want to go to the seminar but ever since you became the Dominus I had to give up my stuff. I got extra work from school. My teacher became stricter."

I was on the brink of breakdown. I had never told anyone my problems out to anyone since Dad became Dominus. I stammered when I talked as I usually did. My light brown eyes sparkled as tears formed.

"I know," he said. "But be strong. We are Sinais, Cole. We are mountains, strong and stable in what's right."

We both laughed and got into the car. I listened to my favourite song all through the ride that I wasn't aware when we arrived.

The Institute for Genetic Experiment. This building always seemed to look more and more spectacular.

"Wow!" I heard a girl in blue say. I thought I had found love. Her miniskirt, blue sneakers and crop top glew before my eyes. As she moved everything began to slow down.

I heard my heart dum louder than a drum set. My heartbeat paced through my body back to its original position.

I thought over pushing to say hi but decided not to after noticing a boy in blue long sleeve shirt and blue jeans standing beside her.

"I guess I can finally scout for a girlfriend. Now Sammy won't laugh at me," I thought aloud.

"Sofia," Dad called pulling me out of the trance,"Go do your thing. We are cheering."

Dad smiled with his teeth exposed to show my mum he believed in her so I had to beat my dad at cheering her on.

"Look!" I shouted, "This is my mum. Sofia Sinai's my mum."

She smiled that she entered the building and left us at the car. On entering the building she gave us the peace sign and closed the door behind her.

I was instructed by my dad roll with the other Thoth kids. I was happy, no excited.

I left my dad and joined the other Thoth kids but when I got in I spotted the miniskirt girl so I broke out to the group. My moment had arrived.

I was finally going to shine. Nobody had ever done that at my school.

"Hi I'm -"

"Not interested."

Those words took time to get into me. It sank in my head and broke my heart. My world shattered.

I decided to walk away to prevent further disgrace. I couldn't disgrace myself even more. I wandered around for sometime before joining my group.

"Yo Cole look," Sam pointed. "That's the SR 3000."

"The one with the antigravity feature and P6 brain game sector?" I asked with inquisitiveness.

"Yes, that one."

We ran to the room containing system. I hesitated as I stepped in the room and decided to go back to the seminar so I left Sam behind.

"I'm off."

"OK ," he replied without glancing at me.

It was time for me to bring in my pet wolf, Riot, for a demonstration. I hoped I wasn't late.

As I walked in I scanned the room for the Apollo girl and when I finally saw her I winked but she replied me with a harsh shrug. The pain!

I dropped Riot off at the helipad and backed away. This was going to change our lives. What could possibly go wrong? If Mum could see the positive effect of what she was doing I was sure she would be happy.

Modifying Riot's DNA was no new task. He was originally a silver wolf cub but was modified to be red. At a time he got injured because of excess mutation.

"We'll start with something small like colour change," Mum said.

Riot's colour was changed from red to white. Mum decided to do it one more time but this time the alarm rung.

I expected the machine to blow up but instead I felt an energy wave pass through. Mum was nowhere to be found.

The crowd was in chaos. We were all disorganized.

"I said I don't trust Thoth," someone screamed as she ran towards the door. The whole room was lit by red light which glowed like the sun.

"Mum! Dad! Sam!" I screamed.

I turned round to see Riot as a big wolf monster. All I could think of was one word.

Run.

My heartbeat paced. I had never felt that scared. My body shook. I couldn't run or move. The best I could do was watch as the beast that was once my pet approached the girl that I love.

Run. Save her. Do something. I couldn't even save myself other than her. Move. I looked at my body which was stuck at a fixed point.

The boy who was with her picked her up and ran. The wolf charged at him and before my very eyes he split into two people. How?

The clone was quickly killed.

What the ... Riot just killed somebody. That was not my pet.

I stumbled and fell backwards because of fear. I hit my head on a rock and tried to stand up but couldn't. My body felt heavier than usual. Like someone increased gravity.

"I'll find my group," I said before going unconscious.
