Chapter 2: Crescent Lake

The moon hung low in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the Elven Capital of Crescent Lake. The air was thick with the fragrance of ancient wood, and the soft rustle of leaves played a melodic background to his thoughts.

"What the heck is this place?" The city, if it could even be called that, appeared as an endless expanse of trees, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. Houses crafted from elf trees dotted the landscape, and the city itself was made up of thousands of these interconnected trees, resembling a vast forest. The absence of signboards and landmarks added to the challenge of navigating the city, making it unfriendly to outsiders.

"How do they even move around here?" Turning his head around, Ark stood guard silently following behind. What should I do? I don't know how to get around here. Even these stupid body memories can't remember how, or maybe they could, and I just don't understand anything.

Sigh, I could just ask him to lead the way, but that would be too suspicious. From what he could remember, Decem doesn't seem to be the type to ask anyone for assistance. I could order him, but ah, whatever, it's all or nothing.

"Ark, I want you to lead the way!" Nodding, Ark then went ahead, taking the lead. They passed many treehouses? Buildings? What even are they? Turning his attention to the people around him, from what he could observe, most of them lived a simple lifestyle, though it's quite hard to discern when most of them are quivering in fear.

"Do you think that our people's way of life is enough?" Ark, on his part, was very confused. Not once in his lifetime had his father asked anyone for their opinions.

Ark hesitated, feeling the weight of Decem's unexpected question. His eyes darted around the unfamiliar surroundings, searching for clarity amidst the interconnected trees. "Our elven way of life is dedicated to simplicity and harmony with nature. It's not about strength or power," he began cautiously, his voice betraying a hint of trepidation.

"But," Ark continued, choosing his words with care, "what father means by 'enough' is a question we've never considered. Is a life of simplicity truly fulfilling?" His thoughts swirled in uncertainty, the prospect of challenging the established norms sending shivers down his spine.

Decem's penetrating gaze remained fixed on Ark, awaiting a response. The forest, once a sanctuary of familiarity, now held an unspoken tension as the weight of potential change lingered in the air.

"Is that what you think?" Decem's voice cut through the quiet, prompting Ark to confront his own apprehension. The fear of challenging the traditional elven way of life clashed with the growing realization that his father, the mighty Elf king, sought something more for their people.

"Well, for me, it's not enough," Decem declared, breaking the silence. "I don't want my people living in their homes with barely anything. I don't want my people knowing nothing of this world. I want more, not just for my own satisfaction but for my people as well."

A defining silence lingered for a while before Ark could respond. Decem spoke, "That's enough for today; let's head back to the palace." Understanding the situation, Ark responded, "Understood, your majesty."

Ah! You idiot! Why did you have to ask him a question like that? You're already acting suspicious, but you just had to ask a question. Rolling around the bed, Decem couldn't stop thinking about what happened earlier.

At least now he has a better picture of the economy of the country. From what he observed earlier, much of their economy is by barter; there doesn't seem to be a form of currency. Shops around the city mostly sold herbs and meat. There were few who sold textiles, but they are far and few in between.

Sigh, I have a lot of work to do. Opening a drawer, Decem took a blank parchment and started writing. The first thing we have to fix is infrastructure. There's barely anything here well if there's the sprawling tree buildings around the city. But its pathways are hazardous.

Next is Industries. We barely have any. Wait, we have lots of herbs, right? Do we also have alchemists? If that's the case, then I think I might have just found one of our largest future Industries. Wait, Alchemy? That's magic right? I've been in this world for hours now and barely thought about it.

I know I'm a druid based on this body's memories. A really powerful druid. Trying to remember the magic he knows, Decem's eyes open in shock. Wait, I can use 10th-tier magic! A cruel laughter escapes his mouth; hehe, this changes everything.

I need to test my magic, but how? I can't exactly go blowing up buildings just to see if I could do magic or not. Let's test simple spells for now; let's see what spells do I know. Humm, thinking deeply. Ah, that's it.

[Fly] his body started levitating. Hell yes, It actually worked. He levitated near the balcony and opened the doors. From here he could see the entire city. Deciding to test other spells more, Decem floated upwards. Wow! The city's massive, though to others it might look like just a large forest but if you look closely enough you could see light glowing around the leaves. As he flew through the sky he saw the full extent of the City.

So that's why it's called Crescent Lake. From up here you could see that the forest city is surprisingly placed on open plains a large crescent-like lake surrounds the Northern part of the city. It's beautiful, never in his life have he seen something like it.

Deciding that he had enough sightseeing, Decem flew outside the city and went deep into the forest of Evasha. Landing on a mountaintop, Decem thought about what spell he's going to use. There's no wildlife in the area so I can use any spell I want. Let's test his signature spell. Smirking, Decem then cast [Summon Primal Earth Elemental] the earth started rumbling soon after a colossal golem-like creature appeared. It has a misshaped body of boulders and mineral ore. It's colossal-sized dwarf everything in the forest. It truly earned the name "Behemoth!"
