Chapter 5: Pokemon Attack

Author's POV:

"Just as I thought," a voice could be heard from below.

Shirona peered down as she was carried by Togekiss. She was still not used to this. His flight speed was not particularly fast, but still enough to feel quite a bit of wind. The houses passed by swiftly.

Yet Oka was keeping up, jumping between rooftops as he continued running. He didn't seem humanly possible. Both his forward momentum and jumping power clearly exceeded common sense. Perhaps he just looked similar and was actually an entirely different species. This was a world without Pokemon, after all. Anything could be possible.

At the same time, she worried about the remaining Pokemon. If the other suits were the same, who knows what would happen. The worst case scenario could occur.

"Hey, are you listening?"

Preoccupied by her thoughts, she was late to realize Oka was talking to her.

"What?"

"It's about time you got off. This should be far enough."

"Why? Wouldn't it be better to go further away..."

"We have a destination. It's close. Walkable distance."

After Togekiss landed again on a roof, Shirona folded her arms and looked at Oka quizzically.

"Then we should keep flying instead."

"Are you an idiot?"

She bristled at his abrasive words that felt like they couldn't be ignored.

"What do you mean?"

"If you stay with that bird till the end, it'll be meaningless. Say goodbye here. Best if it flies in the opposite direction. That way your location stays hidden. A little thought makes it obvious."

She was almost convinced. Togekiss's position was also known after all. But knowing he meant to use Togekiss as a decoy made her hesitate.

"Kyui!"

However, Togekiss himself nodded vigorously, without any hesitation about his intent. Deeply moved, Shirona hugged him tightly.

In the end, she had no choice but to rely on them.

"I'm sorry. Don't overdo it."

After fixing her with a determined gaze, Togekiss took flight. Without a rider, his speed increased. In mere seconds, he disappeared between the buildings.

"Let's go."

She felt her body shoved forcibly to the side as she was lifted up. Shirona gasped. Oka had picked her up almost by force. To an observer, it would seem questionable.

"W-What are you doing?"

Carrying her princess-style, Oka replied nonchalantly, "It's more efficient. You still don't have a suit on, even the second time. That's unheard of. Yet you're surviving. Hold on tighter, or I'll drop you."

It was a first-time experience in her life, but she had no leisure to dwell on it. When Oka started running, she felt even stronger winds than when riding Togekiss. Shirona almost screamed, but seeing Oka's expression completely unchanged, her stubbornness kicked in.

"Hey."

"Hmm?"

"Earlier, you mentioned circumstances. What is it? Why are you helping me?"

Oka was briefly silent. Then he moved his chin forward. "I'll give you the details once we arrive. You should hear the full story and see the evidence yourself. That Gantz guy really messed up this time. He transferred us somewhere close."

Looking where he indicated, she saw what appeared to be an ordinary apartment building. She strained her eyes to see if anything seemed off, but could find no abnormalities.

When they arrived below, she expected Oka to put her down, but he still seemed intent on doing something else. Then when he suddenly jumped, she let out a short shriek. She felt considerable weightlessness throughout her body. Using the railing of a balcony for footing, Oka rapidly scaled the outside of the building floor by floor.

Shirona prayed for this bizarre rollercoaster ride to end swiftly.

Seeing him still with a cigarette dangling from his mouth after getting up, George was a little disgusted.

"Give me one."

"Two thousand yen."

"You stingy bastard."

"Fair price."

In the end, the other man didn't give him anything. Whatever, George faced forward again.

There were four people standing, including himself. Among them, Muroya seemed reluctant to deal with the woman, Miho Nakayama, who was trying to cling to him.

"No way."

"Then sit down. You're in the way."

Muroya, ostensibly the leader of this group, walked over to stand beside George. The half-naked man who had been smoking the entire time also moved forward. No one, not even the Pokemon, saw him as anything but a pervert.

In addition, Kyō, still holding his weapon after his bike was destroyed, also started heading toward the strange beings ahead. The rest didn't seem ready to move yet.

George observed the odd presences in front of them. When he thought the purple one had released something, it had been blown back. Fortunately, the suits seemed to absorb all impacts except damage, much like George and some others. Nakayama, Yamada, and the three S&M hobbyists couldn't even stand up yet.

"Kyō, what're their scores?"

When the crewcut man, Muroya, asked, the young man silently activated a small scanner embedded in the grip of one hand, connecting to a miniature computer resting on his other palm. It was a fairly useful premium bonus, able to check the aliens' scores beforehand and add a sense of purpose.

Kyō soon answered, "Roughly between 65 to 70."

"All of them?"

"Yeah."

"Whoa."

George was also a little impressed. He could grasp a single entity's score. For a boss, those numbers made sense. Among the enemies they had fought so far, this group consisted of some of the tougher ones, four standing together. Taking down two would clear the stage. This was hot, he thought, getting pumped up.

He scrutinized them one by one. They didn't pursue an attack. Strangely composed. Normally they'd be desperately trying to kill them, but these ones had a certain leisure.

No, he corrected his thinking a little. It wasn't composure exactly. Clearly all of them were seething with rage. Their intimidation coming across tangibly.

His eyes were drawn to the individual standing in the center. It was an alien type he'd never seen before. He vaguely recalled a past opponent mimicking a plant, but this one gave a distinctly different impression.

The differently colored flowers on the sides of its hands. He tried to match them with something from his knowledge but they all seemed like new species of plants. A faint sweet scent was also wafting from it, unlike anything he'd ever smelled before.

It didn't seem to have roots growing out from its feet either. Then how did it absorb nutrients? The chrysanthemum sections on its arms had slight cut marks. Meticulously pruned. He made a mental note to catch its owner later and ask some questions.

"Then the husband should be the weakest one, yeah?"

"Wait a sec."

Coming back to himself, he turned to the half-naked man beside him. Kuwabara shot him a disgusted glance.

"Yo Shimaki. The hell you spacin' out for?"

"So annoying. Yeah, I'll take that one." He pointed at the plant alien in the center.

Kuwabara snorted derisively through his nose. "Conservative choice. Looks the most defenseless. Well, I'll leave it to ya."

"You?"

Muroya and Kyō had already gone ahead, targeting the two on the far left. Tearing his eyes away, George noticed Kuwabara making a strange expression.

"Hey..."

His gaze was fixed on the individual on the far right. George looked too. It had a snakelike appearance, but differently, its color gave a rather soft impression. The beige body and face above also seemed gentle.

"Wonder where its hole is."

Hearing this, inwardly, George recoiled.

Kuwabara's eyes had taken on a familiar look he'd seen several times before. To put it bluntly, the man suffered from a certain addiction. To satisfy that, he would attack aliens without hesitation. The reason for his perversion.

"Seriously..."

"Nah, just a little. Kinda curious. Doesn't it intrigue you?"

Admittedly, the alien was beautiful in its own way, but only when seen as an animal. George felt no sexual attraction whatsoever toward it. Of course he knew preferences ran the gamut out there, but he felt Kuwabara was indiscriminate.

George fixed his eyes on his target. "Fine, it's decided. Taking out the last bird goes to whoever finishes first."

"Yeah. It'll cut down time faster than the husband."

"Stingy bastard."

The attack came from all of them simultaneously.

Ordinary and rifle-type X-guns lit up together. Honestly they could end it in a flash if they used something stronger, but he believed amusement was important. Besides, the plant he faced was quite small. X-guns would be plenty, he figured. But they missed. His aim itself had been perfect. The opponents had simply dodged.

"They're fast!"

The plant had already reached the side wall. It shook the tuft of white on its head and glared at George who had fired at it. In response, it returned a sinister grin. Cheeky thing, George thought, switching gears mentally.

The other entities had also evaded. The purple smoke floated in midair, escaping Kyō's gun nozzle. And the snake Kuwabara targeted rapidly crawled across the ground to reposition.

As expected. He hadn't let his guard down after seeing their scores. But it seemed some hadn't managed to escape.

"Alright!"

Muroya smiled at George's group, hinting this was his chance to win the right for the white bird if things kept up like this.

It had an appearance resembling some kind of sea slug or shell-less snail.

"Poh?"

Making a curious sound, part of its body suddenly ruptured. The lower blue section burst open and its three eyes opened widely.

"Powa~~~~!"

Oozing about, the sea slug-like being writhed. Abruptly green light flashed around it, covering the chipped area. Before their eyes, the damage regenerated rapidly. The wound inflicted by Muroya's X-gun vanished.

"Huh?"

Muroya raised a corner of his eye and continued firing away. Although the sea slug tried evading at a reasonable speed, it ended up eating every shot. But it was futile. The rupturing inner portions instantly healed themselves.

"This guy..."

"Powa!"

Suddenly its mouth-like part opened, spewing water. It came forcefully but Muroya reacted in time. Changing weapons while rolling sideways. Then he fired into it with a rifle-type X-gun.

"Popopo?"

This time it sustained greater damage but seemed unconcerned. The green radiance shined once more and it was perfectly restored in an instant.
