I had to focus on what was going on with my grandfather after I found Oshun. Senora Garcia would have hell to pay if she was up to what I thought she was. I had no choice but to find Emmanuel and try to get his help right now. With everything that was going on, he was my only option. I did not want to bother him considering what happened the last time I saw him. Seeing blood dripping out of his hands without being injured or anything was one of the scariest things I hand seen. I knew he had to be afraid right now too if I was. Afraid or not, there was no one else I could count on to give me the answers I needed. Emmanuel knew the spirits and there had to be some way he could find Oshun. They knew what was happening even when we didn't.
I drove over to the University and for some reason I head strait for the dorms. As I walked up to the main building I found Emmanuel sitting on the wall by himself. He looked like he had seen a ghost. Something was not right with him. His small frame was hunched over as he stared at the floor blankly. His hands were wrapped with white bandages stained with blood. It seemed like the blood that dripped from his hands had been real. I needed to know what he saw. I needed to know what happened to him. I needed to find out was happening to Oshun.
"Emmanuel!" I called out as I walked towards him. "Are you ok?" I asked. Emmanuel didn't look up. He just kept looking at the floor. "Not really." He said, barely above a whisper. "Sorry I ran off on you, Keno. I saw some things I wasn't ready to see. I felt some things that were terrifying. I am still not completely sure what is happening. Some things are very clear though." He said, as he looked up at me. His face looked like he had aged instantly.
"It's ok Emmanuel. I am glad you're ok. I was worried. Everything has been so crazy lately. I don't understand any of it. Oshun is missing now, and I am losing my mind trying to find her. I need your help. I have no where else to turn to." I held back the tears that were forming and swallowed the lump in my throat. Emmanuel looked away with a furrowed brow. I knew I wasn't ready for what he was about to tell me. My gut felt like it was being rung around in knots, as I waited for what seemed like eternity for him to tell me what I needed to know.
"Oshun is in danger Keno." My heart sank before Emmanuel could finish the last word in his sentence. "There is so much that is going on with her right now. She has been undergoing a spiritual attack. The biggest problem is that the spiritual attack is paired with a physical attack. She can feel things that happen to her in the spiritual world while she is in the human world. She is experiencing things that we cannot see without being guided by the ancestors. Oshun is being pulled between the real world and the spiritual world, and it is tearing her apart. She is losing touch with reality. That's why her marks and wounds cannot be explained. That is why she hallucinates. That is why Penny reaches out to her"
When Oshun ended up in the hospital she was attacked by the Wendigo that had chased her before. The Wendigo was sent by who has her now. That is what caused her recent injuries and nearly killed her. She was pulled into another dimension that she couldn't get out of. The ancestors have been trying to help her but the force pulling her is very powerful. She cannot fight it." I felt numb listening to Emmanuel explain what was happening to the woman I loved.
"It gets worse Keno." "Penny is with her. She doesn't want help. She doesn't need the kind of saving that Oshun thinks she needs. She wants Oshun's body and soul. They are trying to kill Oshun." Emmanuel dropped his head in his hands after spilling the most horrifying thing I could hear. "You don't have much time. The process is nearing an end. You have to find her before it's too late."
"What can I do? Where is Oshun? How do I find her?" I tried to keep myself from yelling. This couldn't be happening. How could this be real? "I need to find her, Emmanuel!" "The only thing I can't figure out is exactly where she is, Keno. I saw caution tape and an empty room but that could be anywhere. I am sorry I can't help more."
"Caution tape! I know where she is!" I shouted as I reached for Emmanuel's arm. "We have to go get her!" I said frantically. "No. I can't Keno. I can feel what they are doing to her. I could be killed." He said, with regret flooding his eyes. "Please Emmanuel. I don't know if I can save her alone. I don't know what is happening!" I pleaded. "I am so sorry, Keno." Emmanuel said, as he pulled his arm away slowly. It is too dangerous for me. I have been warned." He said as he walked away from me.
I took a moment to digest what was happening. I had to do this on my own. I had no idea what to expect but I had to try. I shook off all the fear, confusion and doubt. There was only one place nearby that fit the vague description that Emmanuel gave me. I ran off as fast as I could to the old, condemned building that Penny was killed in.
