Chapter 65: Chapter 64

Seeing Amon in front of him in a wheelchair, Chen couldn't help but smirk. The way he'd finished his once worse enemy was very satisfying.

"So, Amon. We meet again." Chen said with a smile. He turned to Tarrlok. "And you, the previous councilman. I think you've gained a bit of weight. Try to lower your carbs."

Chen didn't really know how to act friendly.

He thought that he needed to use a happy tone.

That should work, right?

"Why do you want to see us?" Asked Amon with a weak voice, one that held deep resentment.

"Guess this psycho can't sleep at night without confirming that we're miserable." Replied Tarrlok.

"Hold on there." Chen raised his hand. "I don't need to confirm you're miserable. Everyone in Republic City knew you were, even before you got arrested." He then placed his hands on the table.

Chen took a deep breath and said, his tone changing to a serious one. "I have a deal for you, the brother blood benders. I need your help to fight strong opponents, and your powers seem to be the best counter for them."

Tarrlok said nothing. He just lowered his head, seeming to think about it.

"He... He… He…" Amon laughed slightly. "Did you forget that you've destroyed my Chi points completely beyond repair?"

"I can get you back to your peak shape," Chen said. "As long as you guys help me fight."

Amon stopped for a second.

Tarrlok, on the other hand, said. "What kind of mighty enemy the Avatar herself couldn't fight?"

"Spirits," Chen said. "But they bleed."

"I see."

"So, we have ourselves a deal."

"What it is?"

"Provided that you help me, your criminal record will be removed. You can start a new life, and family, and do whatever the hell you want. I bet since your ambitions are now beyond achievement, given that the city knows who you are, I think you two deserve a second chance."

Chen knew that any criminal would take this chance to start a new life, even if they'd to sell out their families.

Beifong glared at Chen as if he lost his mind.

Chen shrugged, saying. "We don't have a choice actually. I won't promise you that you will come alive. But I promise you this. If we fail, everyone here would probably die. The spirits promised me that about the people I knew. I don't think they have a way to know what's inside my head, so I would assume that they will kill everyone in the places I had been. You two included, so for the police chief here."

Lin rolled her eyes and said. "I can accept that deal, provided they will have a collar around their necks when they are set free."

"And why is that?" Amon asked.

"So I can crush you with a flick if you decided to play smart." She replied. "That's my condition for your freedom."

"You seriously asking us to die—" Amon opened his mouth to speak. But his brother cut him.

"We'll take that," Tarrlok said. "Think of it, brother. If we can get free, we can start a new life away from our father's shadow. Living here, or dying out is the same thing. How about we try it?"

"I don't know. I'm a cripple man." Amon said.

Chen stood up, walked to Amon, and put his hand on his head.

Taking a deep breath, he generated his resurrection flame.

A golden flame left his hand.

At the same time, Chen felt a huge amount of Chi being used.

Luckily, Chen had the dragon's Chi. It must be the reason why he could afford to use this flame. Had he not had this external energy, Chen may have used all of his.

The golden fire spread from his hand, covering Amon. At the same time, Chen's Chi was running through the flame at a dense rate, healing the wounds and broken ribs. Amon's once broken face started changing.

"This… even the waterbenders healers couldn't change that," Beifong commented.

"I know," Chen replied, a drop of sweat dripping from his forehead.

Lin extended her hands forward. The metal piece that was around Tarrlok's eyes shifted its shape, moving to his neck. As for Amon, a part of his wheelchair turned into a collar around his neck. That way, any metalbender could kill them. It seemed that Lin wanted to keep the two brothers as dogs under check.

Amon's face went back to its original state. He stood up, eyes wide open. He stared at his hands and clenched his fists many times.

Looking at Chen, he smirked. "So, you were saying the truth."

"The absolute truth." Chen said, "I never lie."

Lin rolled her eyes. Her response was logical, given how many times she'd caught him lying.

"So this means I have my bending back." Amon clenched his fists.

"Remember boy. Your life is in my hand."

"Is it?" Amon's eyelids shook. Suddenly, everyone in the room froze from the effect of bloodbending.

"You…" Lin struggled to move her hand… nonetheless, it was moving slowly. "You want to die?"

Chen, on the other hand, looked at Amon with a bland expression.

He wasn't under the control of the bloodbender.

"Sorry. I just wanted to check." Amon said, dispelling his bloodbending. "Interesting of you, Chen. I can't even control you."

The strongest bloodbender was officially back.

"That's because you're way weaker than before," Chen replied.

"The opposite. You're stronger than before." Amon said, touching his face. "So, remind me again, I have to help you deal with some spirits, and I will have a free criminal record."

"You'd still be under the watch." Beifong reminded, glaring with an intense gaze at Amon.

"Sounds good to me." He said. "How about you, brother."

"Yeah." Tarrlok, the previous councilman, said. "But still, we need to change our looks after this is done."

"No plastic surgery without my permission." Lin reminded.

"So, we're officially ready to go."

"Not before I have a sandwich." Said Tarrlok.

Amon nodded. "Just what every man out of the jail needs."

Chen exhaled a sigh, saying, "Eat all you want. It's on me."

It also can be considered a two-man's last meal.
