Chapter 11: |CARBOCES ENCOUNTER|

RAGE|TANKER|CARBOCES EMPIRE

"Just what is this place?" Rage muttered, "If this isn't a capital city, then how big would they be?"

Shaking his head and returning his attention to deal with his current predicament.

"Well, might as well conduct the scans here instead of that tiny village I found earlier. More diversity and culture to study from I suppose."

Activating the crafts autopilot and plotting a wide orbit high above the city, Tanker activated the the high intensity camera and began recording the activities below him.

With the directional microphone that accompanied the camera, he could hear the sounds that surrounded the target. If needed, the camera could also tighten and magnify on a single particular source of sound and isolate it from the rest.

Currently Tanker was listening to the common speech and trying to link it with any of the languages that he himself knew.

"Well, one things for sure. This is a human built city." Tanker thought as he sighed. "Thankfully the first official contact is going to be with a living being is a human. Now, what do they sound like?"

He turned his focus on a group of arguing people, and judging by what was shown, a fight might breakout at any moment.

"It sounds so familiar, yet there is something about it that is just unsettling." Tanker remarked, "It sounds like Greek, but there are bits and pieces of old French, Spanish, German, Russian, English, and something else..."

After listening in on the duo who are presumably haggling over prices, Tanker figured it out.

"Chinese!!! There's something about it that resembles Chinese!" He exclaimed, "But how? As far as I'm aware, there is only slight familiarity between French and Spanish, but how can there also be Russian, German, and Chinese all incorporated into just one language?"

While racking his brain trying to figure out the spoken language, Tanker continued to scan the city below him, recording anything that might have a resemblance of importance. While taking a sip of his emergency supplies drink, the camera notified him that sufficient data has been recorded, a total of three and a half hours of footage ready to be delivered to the linguistics division back at the carrier.

With his craft orbiting around the city, a rough map had been created and stored within the craft's memory.

"Now that's done. Time to see if those weird clouds are still around."

Switching off the camera and redirecting the power to the active radar. Tanker leaned back into his seat, drinking some of the juice that came from his emergency ration, waiting for anything to pop up on the interface.

"Hmm, there doesn't seem like anything is in the air with me..." Finishing his ration drink, Tanker decided it was time to go and find a way back to the carrier.

*BEEP BEEP*

"Huh?" Looking at the interface, Tanker noticed several dots surrounding him. "Where did those come from? Below?"

Looking at the altitude listed next to the dots, they were slowly rising and encroaching him.

Intrigued, Tanker turned off the autopilot and dove down to meet the unknown contacts.

"I hope my helmet cam records them." He muttered as he adjusts his sitting posture.

----

"50 GOLD PIECES TO THE BRAVE SOLDIER WHO TAKES DOWN THE BEAST!!!!" Yelling at the top of his head as he directed his mount to follow behind the dragoon flock, Head knight Sir Garett flew with ease. "THE DUKE HIMSELF SHALL REWARD THE MAN WHO BRINGS THE HEAD OF THAT BEAST TO HIS FEET!!!"

Smiling smugly to himself, Sir Garett was laughing with glee on the inside. "HAHAHA, these idiots think that a reward is waiting for them, look at how easy it is to control these foolish peasants. Oh, sorry, 'Refined Citizens' as the duke calls them. Humph, what is the difference."

Thinking to himself, Sir Garett grows more and more angry at the duke for his kindness and passiveness he has been showing recently.

"So what if those peasants represent the soul of a city, they all should be thankful that they can even walk within our city walls." He scolded in his mind. " God what a coward that Duke is. The kingdoms Rivals are showing so much meekness right now, it is such a good time to strike! Oh I can't wait to see the look on his face when I bring him the Beasts head."

While immersed in his fantasies, reality is often disappointing. With a pounding roar, the 'beast' runs straight through the flock, disrupting everyone's momentum and minds.

"OH BY THE DUKE, WHAT KIND OF BEAST IS THAT?!?!?" One of the Dragoon Riders yelled. "Why is it so fast? What was that roar? Lord knight! Are you sure we can slay this beast?"

"WHAT ARE YOU SAYING COWARD? OF COURSE WE CAN, BEING FAST IS ITS ONLY STRENGTH, THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR!!" Sir Garett yelled at the rider, spittle flying everywhere. "As long as you hit it once, it is good as dead! Now go! CHASE IT DOWN! FOR THE DUKE! FOR THE KING!"

----

"Whoa, those things look like wyverns, this sure is a fairytail." Tanker muttered, pulling up from his dive. "Whoops, looks like everything capable of hearing knows I'm hear now, shouldn't've broken the sound barrier. Oh well, guess its time to book it back to the carrier."

With the craft flying upside down, Tanker looked up from his seat to only be greeted by the many faces of shock and fear griping the people.

"Guessing they don't deal with super fast flying things." Tanker chuckled as he reverted his craft upright and pulling away from the ground. "Well, at least I need to greet these wyverns and its riders, can't leave immediately when they were so polite sending a welcoming party to me."

Turning around toward the wyverns and slowing down to sub-sonic. While getting ready to initiate hover mode and start waving at them, Tanker noticed the people riding them getting up and pointing something at him.

"What are they doing?" Tanker froze with his hand just above the switch to activate the vertical thrusters, "Why do they look so angry and scared? OH SHIT!"

Banking hard to the right and turning on afterburners, several fireballs burned right below his craft, leaving several scorch marks and roasting all the leftover flesh and blood from the ramming incident with the 'clouds'.

"Looks like I have overstayed my welcome, time to leave and find my way back to the carrier." Tanker looked over his shoulders to see the wyverns being left in the dust before plunging into the cloud wall. "Well, at least the compass still works, time to see if the 'cloud' beasts are still there. I wonder how they would react to something flying this fast."
