Chapter 49: Minor Subject Exams

The four gathered at their classroom when they arrived, before separating in order to go to their own respective exam sites.

Amber directly went to Library Lounge, for a live drawing session for the Music & Arts Class Exams. Meanwhile, Jake went to the Cafeteria Kitchen to cook a full course meal for his Culinary Class Exams.

Paul and Steven, on the other hand, wasn't quite sure regarding their exam. It was only told to them, by Mr. Camphor, that it would include the knowledge they have learned so far in the Breeding Class. So, not knowing what to expect, the two friends made their way to the Training Venue no.1, where they met up most of the time for their minor subject.

Speaking of subjects, another thing Paul liked regarding his subject curriculum is their consistency. Most of the subjects' curriculum are cooperating with each other thus makes it easier for the students to specify a region, its pokemons and their further details. Which also makes it easier for the students to study for the exams, as it's more efficient in studying a certain range of pokemons per region.

Like this week's exam so far, Paul and his friends mainly studied different aspects of knowledge regarding Pokemons located in Kanto Region.

An example of this type of consistent curriculum is the first-year class's 1st Semester, which mostly focuses on Pokemons located in Kanto Region. First, is the Beginner's Class, which mostly focuses on identifying and discussing pokemons registered in the Kanto Region, about their habits, characteristic, and unique biology.

The Doctor's Class, on the other hand, also discusses biology of the Kanto Region Pokemons, not only their unique ones, but also as a whole. Interestingly, most pokemons have common organ system, but each one mostly has their own unique organ, or a unique organ for a certain type. Pikachu, as example, has its own pouch for electricity storage on the red circles located on its cheeks. Some pokemons have their own unique organ like Pikachu, while others do not.

Additionally, Ms. Joy also discussed the organ system of the human body at the start and uses it as a basis for comparison. Paul was able to discover that there are no major differences in the organ system, besides people here in the Pokemon World being healthier, stronger, and pokemon resistant.

Another consistent subject is the Battle Class, which Mr. Figg teaches them how to train and battle with Pokemons coming from the Kanto Region. Tactics revolving around them, training regimes, and usual way of bonding and communicating.

Breeding Class is also a part of this consistency, as they study how to observe, and groom, and take care of pokemons coming from Kanto Region for the first semester. This was a good class to complement on the lessons of Mr. Brown from the Beginner's Class.

Contest Class was the only one not consistent, as it focuses on teaching different types per year. This semester, Ms. Hazel taught them on how to coordinate and practice with Ice, Water, Fire, and Normal Pokemons. Although, she did say that there were more moves to learn for the second semester.

Because of this, Paul was reminiscing how it was easier to study for the school's exams because majority of the subjects sync together on the Pokemons they do discuss. He came out of his thoughts as the both of them: him, and Steven, finally reached their destination.

As soon as they arrived, they were able to spot Mr. Camphor who was waiting for the class to be completely assembled at 8:00 a.m. So far, there were around 11 students here already, so they were only waiting for two more before they start in today's exams.

A few minutes before the time is up, the class was at last, complete. Thus, Mr. Camphor was finally able to start discussing on what their practical exam would be for the Breeding Class.

It was quite simple actually, but at the same time it was not. Mr. Camphor assigned them a pokemon each, whom they would spend together with in a little bit of a day. They would be in charge of making the pokemon happy, fed, entertained, clean, and groomed. It would be an individual assignment, meaning no help could be provided all throughout the said task. Though it was a heavy duty, for sure, but it would also test what they have learned so far.

Mr. Camphor said that the pokemons' response would be a basis for their grades, though they would need to record their day for a video submission. This was also another part of their exam, in which they would need to edit out the six hours they spent together into a thirty-minute video. He reminded the students that he has ways to ensure to know what would happen though, so they need not lie to him when submitting to him the video.

Whatever they do, it was necessary to bring back the pokemon they were responsible for at the school by 2:30 p.m. exactly. If going out of the school, a chaperone is needed to be with him or her, at all times. The video submission would be until tomorrow, at 4:00 p.m., thus they need to be quick at editing their somehow vlog-like video project.

Help on editing the video was acceptable, but Mr. Camphor stated that one's own work would be more appreciated, thus would be given more points. It was a nice enough enticement, so Paul decided that he would do it by himself. He's quite good at it, anyways, coming from past experiences. Mr. Camphor also gave a guarantee of knowing when a student does ask for assistance, or not. Thus, it would be fair all throughout the exam.

Hence, after explaining, Mr. Camphor finally assigned each one of them a pokemon, all coming from Kanto Region.

Paul was able to be assigned with a foxlike, quadrupedal Pokémon covered in thick, luxurious golden-white fur. It has a small mane of thicker fur around its neck and a long, fluffy crest atop its head. It has slender legs with three-toed paws and nine, long tails with pale orange tips. It has red eyes, pointed ears, and a triangular black nose.

It was a Ninetales.

Interestingly, each one of the 15 students, was able to receive a final evolutional form of pokemon with a different type each. He was able to spot a Butterfree, a Persian, a Vileplume, and other such pokemons.

There wasn't any Ghost type or a Dragon type though, as they're a bit harder to handle for children their age. It was a good thing that there are exactly 15 students though, so it was a relief for Mr. Camphor to distribute 15 pokemons with different attributes each.

"Well, see you later." Paul immediately bid Steven goodbye as he brought Ninetails with him for a walk.

After taking a walk, Paul was able to communicate with Ninetails through the help of a useful pokemon called Ditto. The blue blob spoke with the fox pokemon whenever Paul asks a question, and then it conveyed Ninetales' answer to the red head by transforming into an Alakazam.

By now, Paul was able to basically understand his pokemons due to the length of time they have been together. Though, in order for them to not have any misunderstandings or a miscommunication, the transforming part was necessary for a clear conversation with Ninetales.

He asked basic questions such as its hobbies, favorite food, grooming style, and how it would like to take a bath. Ninetales, in a good mood, responded quite amiably.

Ninetails liked to bath in the sun, while drinking Rawst Berry Juice. Her favorite food was an Extra Spicy Chicken Curry, and she likes to be combed with a brush, while her claws being nipped carefully. She was also fond of red ribbon accessories, and she loves bubble baths with rose essential oil.

Paul was kind of speechless at Ninetales' very descriptive answers. Though, for the next six hours, Ninetales is the queen, so he would do his best to meet the fox pokemon's expectation of a wonderful day.

The red head brought Ninetales into their house first, while he asked for a cleaner, who was fortunately working that day, to buy him necessary ingredients for making an extra spicy chicken curry, and Rawst Berry Juice; red ribbon accessories and a new thick pokemon brush. Luckily, there was already a nipper, rose essential oil, and necessary items to start a bubble bath in the Crimson Manor.

Paul let Ninetales take a short nap on the lawn, while he first prepared her bubble bath. When it was prepared, Paul called her inside to take a bath. The fox pokemon was quite amiable as Paul was cleaning her with her favorite way of bathing.

Afterwards, Paul dried Ninetales up with a hair blower, then let her naturally dry out in the sun on the lawn. Though, she would need to rest over a blanket, so that she wouldn't get dirty. After Ninetales was dry, he started grooming her, nipping her nails first, before brushing her currently entangled fur back into a glossy and beautiful appearance.

Subsequently, he then prepared her a Rawst Berry Juice as she continues to wait for her lunch, which Paul prepared her favorite, Extra Spicy Chicken Curry. The red head was really blessed that he knows how to cook that particular dish, and that his culinary skills weren't rusting.

After lunch, Paul rest with Ninetales on the lawn, as they both slept while sunbathing, though the former was under an umbrella with his pokemons. It was quite a pleasant day if disregarding the red head's incessant endeavors during the six hours. With the help of Ditto, and a cleaner, Paul was able to record the whole events.

From 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Paul did his best to please Ninetales. Thankfully, by the end of six hours, the fox pokemon was visibly satisfied and happy at Paul's service.

Paul and Ninetales went back to the school via car around 2:15 p.m. They arrived at the Training Venue no.1, a few minutes before the time was up. It was Paul who was now currently holding the camera for documentation purposes. Walking to their destination, the red head saw Steven's tired countenance, as he was also approaching the same destination.

It seems like the blue head was tired of taking care of Raichu, that he didn't even seem to notice his friend.

At exact 2:30 p.m., Mr. Camphor recollected the pokemons back from the students. Ninetales, came back, albeit reluctantly. Though, before that, the fox pokemon gave him a big lick on the cheeks which signifies its approval and amiability towards the red head. Paul was quite happy with this result.
