Chapter 14: Chapter 14 : Mortal Arrogance (1/?)

Eli woke up, the moonlit sky replaced by the warm summer air.

Teddiursa had fallen asleep on him as Eli started to shake the small teddy bear.

"Wake up, you bastard!" Eli clicked his tongue in annoyance as the bear jumped up in fear.

Today, they will be moving locations away from the south.

That is because the woman in the middle will hold an untested monopoly of the western care package, and it wasn't safe for him to stay there. She had a Gastly and a guy named "Clark" "who gave him danger senses were all he needed to know that he shouldn't stay here.

Where should he go?

From the hill, he observed there were two possible options.

First, he could go south from the west and into the beachy sections, r to the more rocky areas on the mountains in the north.

This island seemed to be evened out regarding habitats. The western side was full of forests and plant life; the south was full of water and sand. The middle is also connected to the part of the west part and is a forest. For what the east part of the island is, Eli couldn't guess.

After thinking for a while, Eli thought about the pros and cons.

Believe it or not, the most dangerous area's on the island are probably and undoubtedly the beachy areas: open land and the most challenging part, which is water-type pokemon.

Yes, Pokemon such as Ursaring are incredibly territorial and cruel to invaders, but water-type pokemon and semi-aquatic creatures that rest on the sand are more brutal. Not to mention how they can escape in the ocean, ambush unsuspecting people, and fire incredibly dense streams of water that can rip through bone like butter.

However, the mountains were not much safer. Hazardous conditions, more chances of natural disasters should as mudslides and fragments of rocks falling, harsh terrain, and cave and defense based pokemon.

The red string was illuminated in the eyes of Eli as he played around with it.

Can this be used to submit his pokemon to his will? If so, he could use his power not only to capture pokemon that were present in the wild... but domesticated pokemon.

Thoughts of greed filled their eyes of Eli, as he imagined the future. Those pokemon with countless resources and unsavable loyalty to their trainers were forced to submit and bow under a new leader as he reaped the rewards and strength of those more fortunate.

But he couldn't get too excited yet. He had a lot to do, not to mention more research into his power was needed.

And then, there was the most significant factor. He didn't know his flaw, the flaw to his power that would play a part in the future.

All power comes at a cost. He was no fool; there was a price to pay for this power, whether physical or mental.

He couldn't go east of the island, as he didn't want to tempt fate. He was asking for something to go wrong with the distance and the amount of knowledge he knew about this island.

The dark forest echoed the wind as the sun radiated down on the island.

He'd decided.

He was going to go to the north.

------------------

a couple of days had passed since Eli had started to move north , and most of the time was spent working out , collecting berries and food and Teddiursa training.

He was currently in a cave , which was confirmed to have no pokemon with the sharp senses of Teddiursa , who possess a powerful sense of smell and hearing.

Slowly sitting down in the cave and putting his back on the wall , Eli breathed in and breathed out.

He had killed a few pokemon on the way here, mostly small catterpie and weedle's that proved as a annoyance with them. Teddiursa's newfound claws could tear through them in seconds , although the inconvenience that one of the weedle created resulted in a precious antidote needed to be use.

Slowly getting a small glass bottle Eli found laying on the floor , he managed to collect a small portion of poison that the weedle had secreted upon it's death. This would be very useful when it came to trickey and attempting to kill a opponent.

Breathing in and out , Eli could feel his senses starting to prickle on his legs... moving to his arms.... before moving to his neck. Goosebumps filled his body , year's of danger senses cultivated in the brutal slums, forged with blood and trauma.

Teddiursa rapidly tugged on the solider of Eli as the latter nodded.

Quickly sitting up and grabbing his bag , Eli sprinted to the entrance of the cave.

Then he smelt it.

Toxic fumes came from the entrance, a smell that Eli recognized the smell of fire before realizing that he had been smoked out. Eli used his shirt to cover up his mouth and his nose as he rapidly grabbed Teddiursa and stuffed the small bear inside his shirt.

"30 SECONDS , TEDDIURSA! DO NOT BREATHE IT IN!" Eli gave a cough as adrenaline rushed through his veins. Teddiursa seemed to be doing alot better than he ran to the source of the sunlight of the cave , red string's floating around his body.

Teddiursa saw through the fabric of the shirt that his trainer slowly started to slow down , almost becoming sluggish. The coughing noises slowly started to become stronger and stronger as it's trainer managed to get outside , almost gasping through the air.

But even when outside , the toxic fumes chased them , as Eli managed to locate the source of the burning , but couldn't pay attention to what it was.

Running in the opposite direction of the flames , Eli slowly started to collapse against a tree, his face covered with soot.

"Teddiursa.... listen carefully..... my body is about to go into shock from pulmonary edema." Eli splurged out , as his pupils started to dilate. "Potions...aren't edible... for humans." The manner of speech started to get more difficult. "Defend my body.... Collect 5 oran berries , 2 pecha berries , and a Occa berry.... boil them up in water and serve it to me...." Eli gasped for air , as he grabbed Teddiursa. "You must do it! i'm counting on you..." The life drifted from Eli's eyes as Teddiursa sat there , his expression lost.

He felt alone. For the first time in it's life.

He felt alone.
