Waylen's POV

After Mom died, life as I knew it was over in an instant. It didn't make a lot of sense to an eight year old boy why one second his mother was laughing her heart out and the next she was lying in a pool of reddish sticky fluid and no matter how hard he shook her, she wouldn't answer him…wouldn't stand up or blink or the worse, she wouldn't close her eyes.

Her eyes haunted me for a very long time…so lifeless, her once beautiful brown eyes looked so…dead.

I was eight years old but even I knew there was something inherently wrong with her eyes yet I couldn't look away. I was like a deer in a headlight.

Even as life left her body, Queen Miracle kept her eyes on the little cubicle she stuck me in to keep me hidden from the man who bulgoned her to death in that hotel room.
