Chapter 30: Differences
When the ship arrived at the port of Loguetown, Luffy jumped on land and ran off, saying "I'm going to see the execution platform!" Nami shouted "Luffy! Wait!" before sighing as she watched him disappear.
She turned to her side and looked at a woman… Thirteen turned to her and blinked as Zoro and Sanji laughed to the side. Usopp was hiding behind Zoro and chuckling, scared Thirteen would eat him if he was caught.
Nami gave him an up and down look before saying "It's not perfect but shouldn't be recognizable, just don't go rampaging through town…"
Thirteen nodded, he was wearing Nojiko's ribbon over his ears and his hair put in a ponytail with an orange dress that covered his arms all the way down to his feet. The dress had frills on the cuffs and bottom, hiding his chains. While his feet had high heels on.
He was also wearing makeup and lipstick along with a pearl necklace.
Nami gave him a thumbs up and then distributed money to the rest before dragging Thirteen off, saying "Let's get you some clothes~!" Thirteen looked at the others as he was dragged off, Zoro and Sanji burst out laughing while Usopp saluted Thirteen before running away.
Thirteen stood up for himself and started walking on the island. He wobbled and stumbled, looking at his feet in confusion. Nami said "You get used to it eventually." he looked at her and asked "Do I have to wear this for long?" Nami glanced at him and replied "Until we leave… then at the next island… and the one after that."
Thirteen blinked at her and she turned away, saying "Not my fault~" he turned to the road and tried walking normally, only stumbling sometimes.
The duo walked down the streets as the people around them looked at Thirteen before moving on. He looked at the people silently as no one bothered him as they normally did. Nami glanced at him as he looked at the dress silently, she looked away and sighed silently.
As they were walking, a little girl pointed at Thirteen and said "She's so pretty, mommy! Will I be pretty like that too?" the mother smiled and said "Of course, baby." before smiling at Thirteen and walking away.
Thirteen watched them go before turning back, Nami said "We're here." taking his attention away from the encounter as they stopped in front of a huge building. Nami walked in as Thirteen looked at the people around, she turned around and pulled him in, saying "What are you waiting for? The marines?"
Thirteen stumbled into the shop and the shopkeeper said "This is a men's clothing store, sweetie." Nami smiled and said "I'm shopping for my brother, thank you though." the shopkeeper smiled and replied "You're a good sister." Nami simply smiled and started looking through the clothes as Thirteen stood next to her, watching.
She took a shirt and held it up to Thirteen, looking with one eye before putting it back. The man was confused and Nami saw him before laughing embarrassingly "My friend is the same size as him ahaha.." the shopkeeper laughed and answered "I see! Hahaha" before reading a book.
As they continued shopping, Nami pointed at a long sleeve while Thirteen shook his head before grabbing a white t-shirt. Nami slapped his hand and put it back saying "Too much white." Thirteen grabbed a black t-shirt and she sighed, looking at him.
He blinked before slowly putting the t-shirt back, she sighed again and took the t-shirt from his hands, walking off. Thirteen waved his tail under his dress and followed her.
They passed by a rack and Thirteen stopped, looking at a pair of shorts. Nami turned to him and he showed her a pair of black shorts with a white bunny logo on the bottom corner. She looked at him in confusion and he pointed to the Bunny, Nami looked behind Thirteen and saw the dress moving side to side.
She looked at Thirteen's blank face funnily and threw the shorts on a pile.
Thirteen followed her back to the cashier and watched as Nami put all his stuff on the counter. As she was haggling with the man, Thirteen looked at the man smiling at him before turning to look at other things. He walked to a rack and picked up a hat, holding onto it.
He stared at the hat and squeezed it tightly as the sounds of Nami and the Shopkeeper fizzled out.
A new voice joined in, however, "Why even think about it? Just kill them all, they can't say anything when they're dead." Thirteen spoke "I don't care what they say." the voice giggled eerily and retorted "Then why do you want to hide yourself? Killing is what we're good at, not hiding. We can kill them all!"
Thirteen replied "Who are you." the voice paused before laughing hysterically and answering "Fool! You don't know who I am? I AM you." as it continued hysterically laughing.
Nami turned to Thirteen after hearing him talking to himself and she said "Thirteen?" as she looked at the hat in his hands and his white knuckles, she ran over and slapped the hat out of his hands and shouted "Thirteen!?"
He turned to her and she took a step back as one of his eyes was red. It slowly returned to normal as he blinked and said "Nami?" she looked at him before turning to the shopkeeper, who was a bit spooked, and said "Bag the clothes."
Thirteen watched as the man bagged the clothes and Nami took them before dragging Thirteen out of the store. He looked at her as they walked down the street
to the ship. As they were walking, he looked around and noticed smiles from men and women as he heard whispers "She so pretty!" "Wow!" "She looks foreign, cool!" "Do you think she'll let me take a picture of her?"
He also noticed figures in masks hiding around everywhere, they were all looking around as if they were searching for something.
Suddenly, Nami said "You want to hide your ears?" Thirteen turned to her and stayed silent, she glanced at him and continued "Do you?" He looked at the people, still looking at him, before nodding.
She turned back forward and said "Why? Because people make fun of you?" he didn't speak and Nami added "What do they know? They don't know who you are. They don't know what you've been through." Thirteen replied "But look, they're all happy now. If I wasn't different, if I wasn't a sl-"
Nami turned around and slapped him, cutting him off and jerking his head to the side as she said angrily "Shut up!" Thirteen stood there as he looked at Nami with his head turned to the side, she poked his chest and continued "You think it's better that you hide? People will be happier if you weren't around? Hm?! Answer me!"
Thirteen looked at her and stayed silent, she turned around and walked away, adding "I respected you and I admire you, but to think you'd let a bunch of nobodies get to you for being yourself. So what if you're different, they're all the same. A bunch of trash that knows absolutely nothing."
Thirteen held his face and watched Nami walk off, the people around him started whispering "What's her problem?" "Why did she slap the pretty girl?" "What a bitch."
He looked at those people before walking after her, engrossed in his thoughts.
