Chapter 24: The Truth!
Thirteen was crouched on a beam in the ceiling as he watched her look around. He looked at her dirty hands and assumed that she just buried Usopp. He didn't really know what to do at this moment, should he kill her or not?
Nami said "Come out! I know you're here!" Thirteen didn't believe it and flicked his tail behind him, staring at her from above, deciding what to do in his mind.
Nami put down her staff and sighed, putting it away as she sat down, assuming the thief left. How was she supposed to know that it was Thirteen? She didn't bother looking up because who could jump to the beams in the ceiling? Only freaks.
It just happened to be that, that same freak was actually in fact the one who robbed her.
She put her head on the table as the door opened again, revealing the blue haired girl from the picture, now a woman.
Thirteen observed her and tilted his head at the newcomer.
The woman looked at Nami and said "I heard you killed your long nosed friend." Nami turned her head and replied "Who told you that?" The woman rolled her eyes and retorted "Heard it around." Nami replied "From those guys?" as she turned back to face down.
The woman sat next to her and crossed her legs, picking up a tangerine from the fruit bowl on the table as she said "Yep. Fortunately for you, I saw him later." Nami stayed silent and the woman said "Nami, wh-" Nami cut her off saying "I don't need your advice Nojiko!"
Thirteen looked at Nami again with a confused expression. She didn't kill Usopp? Then what happened?
Suddenly, he felt an urge to go tell the others that Usopp was still alive. As he moved to sneak out, his ears twitched and he heard yelling coming from outside. Nami and Nojiko looked at the door before rushing out, followed by Thirteen sneaking out through a window to the roof and looking down at the scene.
He saw a group of marines along with a scarred man sporting a hat with a pinwheel on it. Nami shouted at the marines "What are you doing!?" as she watched them search around, overturning Tangerine saplings.
The leader of the Marines, who Thirteen thought looked like a mouse, said with a sneer "We've received word that you're hiding money gained through illegal means and we're here to seize it." Nami shouted angrily "That's my money! You can't take it from me!" The man just sneered as another marine reported "Sir, we've found it."
The man with a pinwheel hat said "That's the village funds to purchase the village back from Arlong, please." the lead marine snorted and said "I don't care what the money's for. Take it, let's go." Nami looked at Genzo, stunned as he knew the reason she was stealing.
Thirteen watched the events unfold and looked at Nami, who hit the marine with her staff as she shouted "Leave my money alone!" The lead marine said "Assaulting an officer! Shoot her!" a marine turned his gun to Nami and fired a shot, Nojiko pushed Nami out of the way as Genzo shouted "NAMI!"
But Thirteen was faster and dropped in front of the two, catching the bullet in his hand before flicking it back at the marine, blowing his head to bits. Nami looked up from the ground at Thirteen standing in front of her with his tail swaying slowly behind him.
She noticed the backpack and said "You robbed me?" Thirteen ignored her and looked at the Marines. The lead marine raised a brow and said "Aren't you…" he snapped his fingers and a marine showed him a bounty poster, the lead marine grinned and said "It's my lucky day! Capture the slave!"
They all pointed their guns at him and Thirteen looked behind him at Nami and Nojiko before turning back and saying "Don't shoot, I'll come." the leading Marine grinned and said "Cuff him!" before turning around and walking away with the money and Thirteen in tow.
Nami shouted "WAIT! WHY?!" Thirteen ignored her question, simply saying "Tell the rest that long nose is alive. I won't be able to." as they brought him away, training a gun to his head from multiple angles as they left.
Nami teared up and roared "ARLOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!" as the marines disappeared.
Thirteen walked with the marines as the lead marine hummed "Should I bring him to the Marine base or Mariejois directly… Hmmm. Decisions, decisions…" he turned his head and teased "Where do you want to go half-breed?" before laughing and adding "Though I guess you'll end up in the same place anyway! Hihihihihihihi!"
Thirteen ignored him and continued walking, the leading marine frowned and stopped before kicking Thirteen, shouting "I'm talking to you, Half-breed! You will answer when I speak, you freak!" Thirteen fell to the ground and coughed, he looked at the marine, who sneered "Try anything, I'll slaughter this whole village and blame it on you. Go on, I dare you!"
As the man laughed Thirteen looked at the surrounding marines, who had straight faces to the man's claim, only training their rifles on his body and head, once he moved they would shoot. The man laughed and added "Then I'll simply take your corpse to the marines and say I killed the monster! Hihihihihi! They'll give me a medal! HIHIHIHIHIHIHI!"
Thirteen stayed silent and a marine picked him up, shoving him forward as they started walking again amidst the leader's obnoxious laughs.
