Chapter 8: Space Race, Take Two. Part 6: Food Saves Lives.

As I leave his office, guided to the cafeteria, I can't help but feel saddened by the state of America and the world. What a shitty place to live for a non white male. I knew I would have to be subjected to racism, but to have to meet it so fast is outstanding. I talk about it with James through our assistants. Nessa is in charge of communication, and she infiltrated the various TV and radio signals to create a communication channel between herself and Cassie. Getting him famous and influential, and making myself indispensable are the main measures we came up with to take on racism, but that's just at the individual level. We need to change mentalities in a big way, and a few things we can use are books, comics, TV and movies. Books and comics are easier than tv and movies. I already highlighted a few in my collection to edit and publish. The main things to change are the time related things in the book, historical inaccuracies, advanced technology, things like that.

While checking my collection last night, I came across a few books about Mars, and it made me rethink the problem. When we first tried to get to Mars, the main issue had always been oxygen. Nothing could grow there, and creating oxygen breathable would have been expensive and quickly complicated. To fight this problem and many more, a lot of people argued back and forth, as one of the most economically viable solution would have been to nuke the planet to terraform it. By the time we put our footprint on the planet, it was already too late to terraform it this way, and we lost the opportunity. The main argument was always the question of life on the red planet, but after 15 years of exploration, all they got was a few frozen bacteria, while the planet had been thoroughly scanned from inside out.

Since James and I are here, now, and have always been in favor of it, we decided to try to do it while the question hasn't been asked. With his connection in the military and mine at NASA, we should be able to get our hands on a nuclear warhead at one point in about 5-7 years, and be able to launch it in 10-13 years. To do so, though, we need an organisation, we can't do it by ourselves. Launching a nuclear rocket we make us terrorists, even if it doesn't land on earth. Instead, we need to make it look like an accident. We decided to create a weapon company, using various weapon improvement we could think about at first, then get it to create missiles and rockets, and during one of the tests, one rocket would be out of control, and head towards the red planet. This plan obviously has flaws, but it should work. We have our whole life.

To make sure of this last point, we devised a few nutritious program and a few sets of exercises to take care of our bodies, while I need to befriend and influence someone at NASA, working on astronauts' food or their health. Slipping a few ideas to that person, I should be able to advance their research in medical science.

It's funny because that's exactly how it happened in the past, — I mean, future... Alright let's just call it how it is, the original timeline. I'm not sure if its another timeline, a copy or anything, but since there's currently no way to make sure, we should call this the current timeline, and the one we come from the original timeline — in the original timeline. The people in charge of Astronaut's nutrition, and how they were supposed to make food on spaceships and other planets, they were happily munching in the cafeteria when one of their friend suggested something half jokingly, and to keep the joke rolling, they told all the good and bad points of this suggestion. Before realizing that the bad points could easily be circumvented. So the guy half joking actually helped make one of the most valuable foodstuff on earth, a energy bar. Not like the energy bar of the beginning of the 21st century, those were just hyper-glucose sweets. The energy bar I'm talking about were super nutritious sticks, with restorative qualities and activating agents for your immune system as well as accelerant for the healing agents of your body. You could eat one every three day, sleep two hours per night, eat nothing else, and you would feel better than ever. You couldn't eat more than the recommended dose. Your body literally rejected the second dose if it was ingested too soon. It didn't do anything dangerous, you just puked the energy bar. Nothing else. This stuff was also easy to make once they had the proper recipe, and needed basic cooking ingredients (and a little knowledge of pharmacology and chemistry, of course). It even needed less water than most of the meals of the time, so it was really revolutionary. You could even add a few drops of different liquid agents to add various taste to the bar. This was eaten everywhere. Most countries adopted this food in a year. Other restaurants still existed, but the food industry as we know it didn't exist anymore.

This little energy bar replaced almost all food on earth because it was cheap to make and to buy, very nutritious, healed your body, helped you stay awake longer, and overall increased your quality of life and life expectancy drastically. Right now it, in 1962, it's impossible to make but I can at least get it in about 15 years if they have the right thinking direction. They just need a push and they'll get started on one thing, this will make them ask more question and realize another thing and so on. This had been the same process for renewable energy, so I'll try doing something similar as well. Knowing what happened, we have to change the future for the better. In any case, this is one of the best place to initiate change, technology and other such advancements. Since its creation, the American Space Agency has been involved in technologies used in everyone's lives. From home insulation to ear thermometers, as well as things so widely used in the world for decades such as computer mouses or even portable computers. NASA in all of its names has been at the forefront of technology and the betterment of human life. Sure, it also accelerated the study of rockets, laser type weapons or microwaves grenades, but those were just byproducts of space research.

I'm sorry about delaying the next chapter, but I'm not feeling great about the pacing, and I have to re-work it a bit
