Chapter 33: Practice

Dev started meditating according to the meditation art. The first chakra point to be opened was the Root chakra.

He gathered the energy from the atmosphere and forced it to pass through the point. It wasn't the first time for Dev to try and open Root chakra. So the energy point was somewhat open.

He tried to force open the barrier, but he failed to force open the energy barrier as the Prana got lost. It wasn't the first time he missed, and it wasn't also the last time he was going to fail.

He tried again and again, and finally, the barrier broke. Dev felt his whole body rejuvenating the moment the energy barrier broke. The Root chakra was related to the element Earth, and this chakra provided the foundation of life.

His whole body got rejuvenated. The hidden injuries he had due to the strenuous training and journey started healing on their own. His bones began getting more robust and more powerful. Dev had a feeling that no one could hurt him at that moment. He knew it was fake, but it still felt good.

He wanted to see his growth, so he thought of the status screen.

Suddenly a black screen with white fonts appeared in front of him:

Healing Prana.

There was an enormous growth in both strength and agility. Dev Prana also increased by 0.02. It was vast growth in terms of Prana. After seeing his improvement, he shut down the screen, and the status screen disappeared.

Dev didn't try to break open the barrier of the Sacral chakra. He only meditated to regain his lost Prana.

After the meditation, it was time to practice fighting with Rose. He was pretty confident about himself after today's breakthrough.

They decided on the nearest forest for their practice location. Dev couldn't afford the fee of a fighting arena. The main issue for practicing in the woods was the injury, but Dev was a healer, so it wasn't a problem for them.

They would practice hand-to-hand combat and archery. Only Level 3 or above beings could use skills and superpowers.

Dev called Rose and told her to meet him in the forest. Lily was also with Rose because she slept there yesterday night, and he didn't try to wake her up.

Dev could see Rose coming toward him while Lily was sitting on her shoulder in the forest. Dev waved his hands at her. Lily jumped down and came running toward him.

"Did you miss me?" Dev asked Lily when she came running up to him.

"Meooo," She said in response.

Dev picked her up and started playing with her.

"Did she disturb you?" Dev asked Rose.

"No, it was fine," Rose answered.

He then put down Lily, gave her a toy to play with, and then asked Rose, "So, what do we practice first?"

"Let's practice archery first. It will be less taxing than hand-to-hand combat," Rose said.

Dev nodded. And then they both took our positions. They used dummy arrows for the practice. These arrows will not hurt the user when they hit them. It'll just get stuck to the user.

They were practicing in the woods. So, they both took positions behind the trees.

"Woosh," Dev tried to make the first move when suddenly an arrow passed through the air. He successfully dodged the shot, but it disturbed his nocking of the bolt, and the bolt fell to the ground.

He started moving around the forest to cloud her senses while arrow after arrow passed through the air.

He finally got a chance. He shot the arrow at her.

"Thud," when Rose's arrow suddenly hit me. He lost after he got hit.

"Aaaarghhh," He screamed to vent his frustration for losing so terribly.

"You suck at archery even after practicing for more than a year," Rose gloated.

"Gloat all you want. We'll see you gloating after hand-to-hand combat," Dev scoffed.

"Oh, you look pretty confident. I thought of controlling my power, but now it seems that there is no need for that," Rose grinned.

"Hmph," He scoffed.

He created a circular arena using the fallen tree branches. The one who gives up gets knocked out of the stage and knocked out unconscious will be the loser.

The fight started, she made the first move. "Thud," Dev fell due to her kick on his stomach. He didn't expect the boot to be the first attack.

She tried to hit him again, but he rolled further. He rolled down fast until he reached the edge of the arena. He successfully stood up before she could outreach him.

He rushed at her. When he reached her, instead of continuing the attack, he got down. He moved behind her ducking down. His goal was to get in control of her arms so he could hold her down. He successfully got hold of her arms.

She got flustered and started attacking his legs. He still didn't let her go. He tightened the lock. "Uhh," A painful moan leaked out of her.

"Do you give up?" He asked her while tightening the lock around her arms.

"In your dreams," She responded, gritting her teeth.

He tightened the lock more and more. "Crunch," He had to stop further tightening as he heard the sound of bone breaking.

"Do you give up now?" He asked again, as he didn't want to hurt her. It was just a practice.

"No, I won't give up. I had to be strong," Rose yelled.

Suddenly, Dev let her go. She slipped and fell due to a loss of balance. Standing up, she turned around. Confused, she looked at him.

"What are you doing?" She asked confusingly.

"What are you doing? It's just practice. Why do you have to be so serious about losing?" He asked sternly.

"But, there is a winner and loser-,"

"So what, if there is a winner and loser. We're just practicing," Dev cut her off in between and said.

"Let's stop practicing now. Let's continue tomorrow. Go and cool off. It's just a practice. We aren't enemies," Dev replied, Lily, following him behind.

While returning, he thought, 'I may have lost in archery, but I was able to lock Rose down in hand-to-hand combat. I was satisfied with today's practice. I only got frustrated because I could've won if not for her stupidity.'

They both got better after that. The next day, Rose defeated Dev in a one-sided beatdown. The result didn't change for five days straight. Dev finally was able to beat Rose in hand-to-hand combat on the sixth day. Archery matches were always one-sided.
