Chapter 5: Wake Up

After the destruction of Earth, Akin was left alone in space. Traveling nowhere, with no home or family in the vast Milky Way. The explosion affected the other planets in the solar system, Mars and Venus were destroyed beside the Earth. Billions of lives lost and many families of survivors have been unable to say goodbye.

In fact, Akin was not the only earthling to survive the fall of Earth, he knew it all along the way. There were 47,549 people off the planet that day, but Akin was the only one to avoid certain death by escaping. That's where his name came from, "The Last Human", he was not the last, of course, but he was the only one not to fall beside Earth while escaping.

He was born in Nigeria, the son of two heroes of the Galactic Foundation, living in a good house, with a good family, being well taken care of until they took everything from him.

He was only five, but without food and water, he wouldn't last long in the middle of space. Luckily for him, some Derrvunians were going the same way as his. They were going to a nearby planet to visit their relatives when they find the boy.

Hungry and dehydrated, the couple decided to return to their home planet, Derrvun, in the Derrvun system, to help young Akin. He was sick and tired.

After all he had been through, it was understandable.

As soon as they arrived, they took care of the boy as if he were a son, without knowing his true story. Akin lived with his foster parents, Jun'no and Ion'na, and a foster sister, Yag'geh. He studied at the same school as any other Derrvunian, was bullied for being a human by a former classmate, was rejected by the girl he liked at school, but he would never fall.

He was not fall like his planet.

He would waste his time learning for himself about the culture of the Earth. Movies, programs, comics, books and many others interested him. When the boy discovered a movie called "Star Wars", no one would believe that he would be so addicted to anything. Every day, he watched an entire trilogy and looked for books and comics about its story.

When Akin was fifteen, his existence became known throughout the galaxy. The Galactic Foundation arrived at the home of his parents, and by this time the name "The Last Human" was already common knowledge among the many species in galactic systems.

No one knows exactly how they found out about him, but the rumor is that the Foundation was examining records of the consequences of the battle on Earth and Athor.

He was afraid that Jun'no and Ion'na were afraid of him. He never told any of them what happened to him. Who he really was.

He was going to be taken by the Foundation, but his parents fought against it, and his sister, who was already twenty-one at the time, fought alongside his parents. For them, Akin was more than "The Last Human", he was family. A son for his new parents. And a brother to the sister he never had.

His family won against them. But on one condition, when Akin turned eighteen, he would serve for the Galactic Foundation at the best college available, the Foundation Academy. Jadellye Hamej herself had been present at the court martial, alongside the then president of the Foundation, Phandel'lia Hamil, to guarantee access to the boy.

And after all that, there he was. Accepted in the most prestigious academy, traveling the galaxy with a whole fleet full of new students accepted. He signed for a better education and, to fight against those who caused the death of his people.

Until, of course, a Golden IV spacecraft suddenly attacked them.

The boy was thinking about how his mother always woke him by whispering his name in his ear. And for a moment, he felt at home. It was as if his mother was calling him.

"Akin, wake up. Akin, come on. Wake up." A voice echoed in his head.

"AKIN! AKIN! AKIN!" The voice echoed one more time. This time much louder and noisier.

"Is he breathing?" A female voice resonates. "I don't know!" A harsh voice yells. "Look! His abdomen is moving. He's f*cking alive!" Another female voice echoes in Akin's head.

He feels something touching his chest, similar to a hand. Someone's breath close enough to his ear. And then a voice.

"WAKE UP GODDAMMIT!"

As an alarm clock alert, the boy wakes up to the shock of everyone in the room. He feels a sharp pain in his head, running his hand slowly and seeing the clotted blood on his forehead.

"I thought you were dead, kid." Captain Sonomott said.

With a crooked smile, from left to right, the boy stands up trying to balance himself against the nearest wall.

"I almost died for less, sir."
