Chapter 14: The Phone Call

The screen showed up at a bad time, and the caller id was none other than 'Wen Yue'. He felt like throwing the phone away, but he couldn't. Others also saw the reaction and already guessed who it was.

But they gestured to him not to lose temper and picked up the phone to listen to what she was planning now.

So unable to refute this, he decided to look into reality and picked up the phone. But before he could even say anything, an annoying whining voice came out from the other side, complaining nonstop.

"Third Brother, I missed you so much. Now you have your own sister, you don't even remember me? I'm now an outsider who was casted aside, right?"

Chen Ying's head was throbbing in pain, he was annoyed to death by Wen Yue's whining sound. He barely managed to keep his cool as he replied to her, "That's not it. Brother is now busy with assignments, I have to complete them in time. I…"

But Wen Yue again interrupted him, "Oh, you're so busy! Then how come you helped with Chen Yu's studies? Or are you lying to me?"

'When did I help her ? What is she talking about?' Chen Ying was dumbfounded when he heard her nonsense.

"Brother, you don't have to hide anything from me. She is your sister, it's only natural that you are helping with her homework, but you don't need to lie… sob sob… I understand," Wen Yue started to cry to make him feel guilty.

But Chen Ying already knew about her schemes very well. Wen Yue's fake crying did not move him, but he wanted to know her real intentions. So he compiled with her as he said with a coaxing voice, "It's alright, It's alright. Tell me what do you want me to do?"

'Alright, finally the fish caught the bait,' Wen Yue smirked as she pretended to become happy, "Really? Can you come to meet me, Brother?"

"To where?" Chen Ying's patience was running out. But he wanted to know what her intention was.

"Hmm. then tomorrow we will meet at the 'Royal Cafe' near my home, 'kay?" she became happy in an instant.

"But before you come, can you take your math book with you? I just registered for the Olympiad in my school, but I don't know some of the topics... So you have to help me with that," Wen Yue finally spilled the beans.

'So that's why she is so passionate today!' Chen Ying finally got to know about her planning. But he didn't want to meet that girl. But the others signaled him to go on with her plans. So he agreed to go there unwillingly.

"Hmm, tomorrow it is," Chen Ying planned to make her wait till tomorrow, then cancel the appointment by telling her that his book was with Chen Yu, so he can save himself from her clutches.

'Yes! Now I can proceed with my plan as well. I'll show him what type of girl Chen Yu is…' Wen Yue was happy when he agreed . A spark flashed in her ruthlessly eyes.

"Alright, then… remember to come in time, bye bye," Wen Yue hung up the phone line immediately when she made sure that he would come.

Chen Ying silently looked at the phone in his hand, a complicated emotion filled his heart the more he looked at the hung up phone.

During their whole conversation, Wen Yue never mentioned other members of Chen family, nor the Chen brothers whom she was close to, nor their parents. She only talked about how miserable she was, or how she got wronged by the Chen family.

Chen Ying saw through her just in a glance, he wandered about just how foolish he was to not see her selfishness before. She was always selfish like this, this is not something new. She didn't acknowledge the Chen family as her family to begin with.

Chen Ying wasn't able to hide his grave feeling, and others also heard her conversation with the speaker, so they already knew how he felt. Anyway, Chen Mo stood up and walked towards Chen Ying. He gently patted his shoulders to calm Chen Ying just like before, when only he was able to calm down his anger.

"It's alright, you don't need to get angry or disappointed over what an outsider told you. Remember that Wen Yue is not our real sister anyway, so it's just right for her to not recognise us," Chen Mo said with a calm voice.

"Yes. And we already have a good sister on our side, so cool down. It's still okay", Chen Li also tried to coax him.

Chen Ying remained silent despite their calming words, these words were not that convincing or helping him that much, he wanted to confirm it himself.

The next day was the weekend, so Chen Yu didn't need to go to school. Mother Chen was also at home, so she insisted on making breakfast. So she can sleep for a little long. Thinking this, she worked a long time at night.

When she woke up, it was already 10 a.m. in the morning. Mother Chen knew that Chen Yu worked hard everyday, so she let her sleep until she naturally woke up.

Others already had their breakfast, only Mother Chen was waiting for her to eat together. After hearing this, she immediately reminded her not to starve like this anymore.

"How can I eat until my children's ate their full?" Mother Chen smiles looking at her daughters reaction.

But tears welled up on Chen Yu's eyes when she heard this. No one has ever loved her so unconditionally like this.

So this is what a mother's love felt like!

Chen Yu silently ate her food. After she was done, she went to her room to take the math exercise book and returned it to Chen Ying.

Chen Mo had a funny look on his face when he saw that.

"You are done with that book?" Chen Mo asked her in confusion.

"Hmm… It's done. I don't have anything much to look at," Chen Yu replied to him plainly.

"Oh… then I want to take a small test. Want to do it?" he looked at her with provoking eyes.

'Hmph… how childish!' Chen Yu smirked in her mind when she saw the expression on his face.

"Okay. But I have a condition," Chen Yu played along with him to get her work done.

"Any of your condition is fine. I just want to see how much you progressed," Chen Ying was looking forward to his sister's brilliance.

The always quiet Chen Ying became active whenever it was something related to Chen Yu. This was a good progress for his mental condition, so the others also encouraged her to do the test.

Although they didn't mention anything like this in front of Chen Yu, she already knew about her Third Brother's abnormal condition a little by guessing. So, she also played along with them.

"Alright then, ask how much you want. I'll answer all your questions," she said with confidence.
