Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Now for the first time this really feels like a new world. Never have I seen plants like these before and even though it looks like a normal forest, everything is slightly different than on earth.

"Guess the child got carried away by her bad mood and just send me to this word..." I mumble.

It doesn't seem like there's a human village nearby, but luckily the sun is still high. It will probably take some hours before evening so I at least have a chance to find a village before it gets dark.

"But first.... let me check my situation... Status!"

Status is a command that even I know from games. I know the names of the skills, but I didn't get the chance to read all of their descriptions before the crazy loli-goddess sent me away. On the status menue, however, I can check all of them.

[ Ryuu, 16, human, lvl 1(fixed)

HP: 100

MP: 500

Skills: Appraisal, Language Knowledge, Magic Detection, Insight, Slight of Hand, Instant casting, Rapid Chain casting, Rune Magic, Unbound Imagination (rare) ]

So the goddess made me 16 again? Too bad I don't have a mirror here right now. But for now I'll give the skills a quick check.

Appraisal is plain and simple what I thought it to be. Same with language knowledge, magic detection and slight of hand, improving my ability in languages, my ability of detecting all kinds of magic around me and doing some nice slights with my hand without anyone noticing.

Insight increases my abilities of reading people and their motives which comes in very handy for a social awkward guy.

Until now my life took place in the virtual world our digital age after losing my job, so insight is a nice bonus.

Instant casting is the first magic-related skill and allows me to avoid nerdy chants.

"Those skills are as expected..."

Rapid Chain casting is the first of the skills where I didn't get to read the description fully.

[ Rapid chain casting allows the user to cast magic based on the same origin multiple times sequentially without preparing each spell individually ]

"So it's basically a rapid fire of magic... together with instant casting that seems to be very good."

That leaves me with two more skills, Rune magic and unbound imagination.

[ Rune Magic - the user can cast spells based on runes which he writes. Each rune can be a spell alone, or be mixed with other runes to create even stronger spells ]

"That's neat!"

The main reason for me to take rune magic was, because it reminds me of programming and scripting. I just hope that this magic can live up to the expectations it just rose in me.

Only left is the skill unbound imagination.

[ Unbound Imagination (rare skill) - allows the user to chape his magic according to his imagination ]

"Uhm... what? Isn't that something like a cheat skill? What's the point in creating several magic abilities then?"

I'm not quite sure but if I understand the ability, it's something like a 'I create as I speak' type of ability.

"Guess there's no use but to test what I am capable of..."

To see the full extent of my skills I activate instant casting, rapid chain casting and rune magic to produce three runes which represent the word 'gust' in this world's human's language. All three are giving of a strong gust, moving leafs and branches for several seconds.

"Status!"

[ Ryuu, 16, human, lvl 1(fixed)

HP: 100

MP: 200

... ]

"So three runes with instant casting and rapid chain casting took away 300 MP. Or was it the runes alone?"

Again I wave my hand to create a rune midair which represents gust. The single gust is weaker than combined with two others and it's range is more limited but it still manages to move branches slightly.

"Status!"

HP: 100

MP: 100

"That's basically cheating, isn't it?"

Only the runes from my rune magic have used my mana which means instant casting and rapid chain casting are resourceless skills!

On the other hand 100 MP looked like much considering the weak power of a single gust.

"Has it something to do with my rare skill?"

Anyway, that helped me to get a good evaluation of my abilities. With that point cleared, the main task of finding a village still remains.

'And then there's also the thing about humans vs demons....'

"Form a line! Don't let them pass!"

Not far from my position I hear people shouting commands and it seems they are attacked by someone or something.

Since I just discovered my magic abilities it wouldn't be a good idea to indulge into a fight too soon, but I can't miss the chance of meeting other humans.

At least I can see what's going on there and get a grasp of the situation.

Unfortunately I didn't choose a stealth skill but hopefully no one will notice me, as I am getting nearer. From my position I can see a carriage which is guarded by a group of five armed men.

The attacker seem to be some kind of wolves of unknown subrace. Compared to earth's wolves these ones are not only bigger but also look more ferocious. No matter how I look at it, there's no use in me jumping right in there.

'They look strong, so they will probably win on their own. Even if they can't, they should be able to flee...'

"Protect the goods or you will be lashed an entire day!"

It seems like they are an escort unit protecting some high valuable goods, even to the extent of risking their live.

A guard screams as he raises his sword to rush the wolves.

"No!"

The leader tries to stop him but it's to late. With my very eyes I can see how the man is attacked by the pack simultaneously. Without any chance of help the wolves tear his body apart and eat him on the go, leaving nothing but an arm behind.

Blood stains the surrounding grass and the wolves' teeth, which they gnash. Right in front of me a battle between the remaining guards and the wolves breaks out and the guards seem to lose this battle.

As much as I would like to help, I know I wouldn't make any difference in their.

Only a few exchanges after the fight started it already ended. Out of five guards no one survived while the pack of wolves was only reduced by two, leaving four behind.

'I guess there's nothing left.'

All guards are dead, anyway, so it's probably best to leave the place before the remaining wolves notice me. If they discover me now I would definitely die.

"Help! Please help, anyone!"

As I turn away, I hear a high-tone voice screaming from inside the carriage while the wolves are closing the distance.
