The humidity by the ocean kept my dress from drying out, which meant it didn't keep me cool. It's when liquid water transitions to a gas that heat is taken with it, and if there is too much water in the air already to keep that transition from happening, it's basically being wrapped in a wool blanket.

After only an hour after lunch, the entirety of which I saw no sign of Gus, Roman, or Derrick, Milly caught my head as I teetered sideways on the bench. The swaying of the cart had turned into my whole world.

"We're stopping," she told me.

"I'm fine," I mumbled past my swollen tongue, clawing back into an upright position. Honestly, this couldn't be any hotter than it was in the city. Milly was freaking pregnant and sweating buckets but I didn't see her getting whoozy.
