Chapter 21: Silence through

"How old are you?", ace was stuffing up his face," You look pretty young for this time".

Jay was distracted as she looked at him. Gulping down her drink she replied," I'm 18 this year".

"And since how many years?", he asked again.

He had her full attention without returning back any. She looked at him properly, gaping confused while he continued filling up. It took Jay a minute to realize the point he was implying when he raised his eyebrow with swollen cheeks.

She didn't like to talk about herself, in fact she didn't even want to talk at all. Especially when it was something regarding her memories of torturous sufferings from the past year. She had never had to be open about them, not even to Travis.

But Ace's attitude was too casual to be not-normal. He is clearly the same, but that frank nature is killing her. Jay had lost her capability of predictions whenever his eyes went straight through her, putting her into a temporary aestivation. His eyes were so unnaturally true and pure, which totally alters and falls into the darkest realm she's ever seen when she needed them.

What the use of maintaining such a cover? Does he really need to?

Jay would have preferred him more as the silent blooded type who only deals in business, not this chatty or clingy. A completely contrasting character.

"So?", he brought her back.

"Don't you ......", Jay chose to ignore the previous one," ...get tired?".

- Of what?

- Working on that disguise?

- Disguise?

- The fake cover, it's all around you.

- I'm not trying be one. This is just me.

- You believe you can fool be because I'm inexperienced?

- I'm still not trying that. No make up on me.

He grabbed a tissue and wiped his face off the crumbs. But then the useless humor struck him as he presented the almost white tissue to Jay to check for make-up.

Jay immediately glared at him; she was feeling the irritation on her nerves. If it weren't for that specific reason, he would have triggered her pangs with one small try.

But somehow, strangely she wasn't getting hyper enough. Her temperament was normal too. She would be drowning in some corner by this time, clutching on to her life and trying not to get insane due to delusions.

She was relaxed.

Normal, like a human.

And even more strange, her emotions were being expressed.

This person, Ace, just exactly how much did he undergo himself to bring himself up to such a point? It couldn't have been those attacks alone. Jay could survive herself because she stumbled upon him along the way ...but he made it all by himself. He knows what he's doing. His actions are all calculated to handle someone like him.

"Don't!", Jay said icily.

Ace just laughed carelessly at her and took another bite of the rest of the left fill.

Just who is he?

Where did he pop out from all of a sudden?

This acquaintance wasn't coincidental, and now ......

He's getting Jay dependent on him slowly. Jay didn't want that very one thing.

"It'll be difficult for the time being", Ace's voice was much calmer as he seemed to have read Jay's mind," You shouldn't be so stiff and live open while you still can be human. Since I'll be here from now on .........

.......... And even if you don't, no one will know that you had existed".
