Chapter 41: 041

As he tried to get up, he sensed two new limbs. A quick look made it clear that he had four wings now instead of two. He was uncomfortable with them for now but it would change in due time. He got down from the bed and walked in front of the mirror. Finally, he could admire his new self…

And he was still an owl.

He was bigger and taller. He had two more wings. But he was still an owl. Unmistakably. It was fine though since one didn't seem able to evolve into a sentient being right away. It would happen someday for sure though. He checked for anything else that would have changed and only spotted a weird gem on his forehead. It was separated in four quadrants of different colors: emerald, ruby, sapphire and topaz. It was quite small, no bigger than his eye pupil but quite stylish. He found it nice as it was a proof of his change.

He whispered full of emotions: "So that's an owl of the four seasons…" but of course, only some hooting resounded in the room. It angered him. He was still incapable of speech. If he had absorbed the brick, he would have had an affinity with the sound element. That would have gotten him closer to speech… It can't be helped. The Season element was many times better.

A bold idea appeared inside his brain and he took out the brick. Then, he tried to absorb the elemental essence from it. And failed. He felt some kind of barrier preventing him from doing so. It was expected but still saddening. He threw the brick away in frustration. Owl really missed speech the most out of all the things he lost as he reincarnated.

True, he could chat with Jung-Su but what was there to discuss with this pawn of his? He couldn't speak of much. Not like there would have been much more to debate with others but it would have made for more options at least. And more freedom.

He sighed.

Then, he comforted himself. He was stronger and closer to the goal. There was no need to be so impatient. He needed to take it slow and steady.

He left the room and then his house. He hadn't been outside for some time. It was his first with this new body too. He was unfortunately not yet able to fly since the additional two wings were difficult to get used to. He could only walk. He did curse his bird legs throughout.

As he reached the other house, he saw no one. He went to the last one and it was empty as well. He pondered for a moment and decided to go to the training grounds. The kids were likely there. He didn't try to contact Jung-Su with his link as he wanted to give them a surprise. He was in a playful mood after his success. In a way, unknowingly, he wanted to be praised.

As the kids saw him arrive, they stopped their training and happily went to check on him. He flaunted himself childishly for a time. Only the other owl was hooting around and dampening his mood. If not for this idiot, it would have been an enjoyable moment. He decided to leave it there after bathing in the glory and praise for a few minutes. Then, he asked Jung-Su to go make food. The truth was that he was slightly hungry right now. And by slightly, it meant very hungry. He was starving after the evolution.

The group went back to the residences. Jung-Su wanted to bring him to his own pavilion but Owl rejected it with a glare as he walked towards his own place. He wanted to eat at 'home' to celebrate his success. There wasn't any particular reason about it. He just felt more at ease to eat there. Not like there were any dangers here at the moment.

As Jung-Su prepared the meal, Sun-Mi went to help him and the irritating white owl left for who knew where. Owl didn't give a fuck and proceeded to launch himself on the wide sofa to rest. He enjoyed the luxury of this place a lot. It was so comfy and relaxing here…

Moments later, however, the three of them got frightened by a loud explosive sound coming from above them. Then, Sun-Mi cried: "It's Holly!" before she ran full speed towards the stairs. Jung-Su followed her a beat later. Owl watched it happen and grumbled inwardly as he got up lazily and went after them at a slow walking pace. Whatever happened to that white dumb owl, he couldn't care less.

As he reached the door of the room, he saw that the two kids remained outside with anxious expressions. He approached and could feel some spiritual energy protecting the room. It was his bedroom though? He didn't put that there? He looked inside and got furious. What he saw made him mad.

He saw the white owl happily munching on some crumbs on his bed. How did this fucking bird dare eat on his bed?! He was ready to stomp his way in and beat it up when he felt incredible amounts of elemental energies fluctuate within. Then, he realized. The crumbs weren't from food. That bird brain ate the damn brick!

He looked on dumbstruck as he realized what happened. That thing ate the brick and launched its own trial to breakthrough to the tenth stage. Yet, Owl wasn't rejoicing. He only felt the pain of losing the brick. That brick that he could have sold for more pills. He was furious about it.

He managed to calm himself down after the kids anxiously held him. They were scared at the moment and that brought him back to reality. He couldn't show his anger right now. He explained the situation to Jung-Su who then explained it to Sun-Mi. After the both of them calmed down, they stayed there to observe the white owl. Owl stayed as well. To be honest, he wondered how it looked like from the outside.

In the end, it was simply boring. The spiritual energy in the room revolved continuously around the white owl and prevented them from getting closer but that was it. Owl easily lost interest and left. He decided to go train and get used to this new body. He was in a safe situation but that didn't mean he should waste his time. He still didn't know the limit of his lifespan as a beast and so, he needed to reach the 30th stage fast. It was quite the lofty goal considering he didn't reach this far as a human but then again, if he didn't want to die again, he had no choice.

It was a week later that the kids brought the white owl out. It had evolved. Surprisingly to Owl, it had changed similarly to him. It was the same size. Which meant that this owl was smarter than others as it didn't pick the first choice. Or it asked for something similar to him, trying to copy his path? In any case, it was interesting. He would have to reconsider the worth of that owl. It might be useful too.

As he looked at it, he could notice that the changes were only the appearances of a few grey and purple lines throughout its white plumage. Well, aside from the two additional wings and size growth. The white owl, apparently named Holly, hurried over to him and began to flaunt itself in a similar way to what he did. It irritated him and made him embarrassed of recalling how he did that himself back then… He had been lost in the feeling of success… How shameful!

But for once, considering how he himself had felt, he decided not to dampen the mood. Instead, he congratulated the white owl in his own way by patting its head with one of his wings. Even if he didn't like this white owl, breaking through was something worth showing respect to.

The white owl seemed content as it jumped happily and hooted non-stop.

Irritating…

Owl planned to go back to training but spotted the Senior Elder arriving with a wide smile on his face. He decided to wait for him since he had to ask him to supply some more resources. He needed better pills to continue his cultivation.

As the Senior Elder arrived, he exchanged pleasantries with his two young disciples while congratulating them for the evolution of both of their spiritual beasts. He quietly sent a voice transmission to Owl: "Let's chat later"

Owl nodded. That was fine too. The other three didn't need to be aware of the background deals. They were only pawns used within their schemes.
