Chapter 22: I've Decided

After we got back to the mansion, Cossette made me sit on the chair inside the training room.

Crossing her arms to her chest, Cossette looked at me with an confused expression, as if she was asking, "What was that?"

Seriously, didn't I answered you earlier...? Why do I have to repeat it once again?

Although I have no desire to repeat my answer, I did it anyways, hoping for her to stop bugging me off.

"Science."

With a doubtful expression, she looked at me, as if she was saying, "What's that?"

"Science...? What's that? Some kind of Seafood?"

It was for a couple seconds, until I realized what she meant by saying, "Seafood" then I face palmed myself internally.

I totally forgot... They don't even have the vocabulary of "Science" in this world. Except for Magic Tool subject that was taught on the academy, they don't have any other more science related subjects.

"No. It's nothing. You won't even understand it anyway if I tried to explain it to you."

After she heard my reply, she puffed her lips in displeasure.

"Hmph. What do you mean by I won't understand it anyway?"

"Pft! Hahaha..."

I laughed. I can't understand why I did that but somehow, I thought of what's happening right now is somewhat funny...

Cossette returned her attention back to me when she heard that. And with an annoyed expression, she then asked, "What?" with an irritated tone.

"No... It's nothing. I just... somehow find your expression funny."

Since she mellowed down after the incident, I could now fully abuse-- I mean tease her whenever I want... Just ignore the 'abuse' part.

"Hmph!"

Cossette turned her head to the side. Seeing this, my lips curl upward, turning into smirk.

She's too easy... I shook my head, and placed my hands to my pocket. Then, that's when I felt something weird inside my pocket.

This... It was the artifact I used to activate my spell earlier.

Since I couldn't fully control the air or oxygen around me because my crest is Darkness and barrier, I have to use some sort of artifact that can allow me to use other spell on magic.

Elemental Crest are separated by 4 Class. The Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Legendary.

Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth are the main four-element people are most compatible with. In other words, Common.

Ice, Spike, Barrier, Speed, Fake, Cure, Crusher, Metal, and Strength are placed in Uncommon because even though they're rare, they are not rare enough to reach the "Rare" class.

Light, Poison, Lightning, Levitate, Sky, and Prism are at the Rare Class because they're strength, not just in rarity, are above the Uncommon Class to be called "Rare".

And last but not the list, Legendary. Inside the Legendary Class is Gravity, Crescent, Mirror, Darkness, Shadow, and Dawn.

Why is the Darkness Crest above Light Crest is all because of their "Value". Since Darkness Crest can absorb and copy some of the other crest's ability, anyone who had this crest could be considered as a major threat to the noble families. So, any noble families will try their best to make a connection to between someone who had this crest.

The last five missing Elemental Crest are said to be above the Legendary Class according to the Author of the novel [Reawakened The Hero]. It is said that even one of those five missing Elements have the power to alter the Universe, let alone Fate itself.

There's also a possibility that Arthur, the Novel's Protagonist, has one of the five missing elements but haven't awakened it yet. The Author didn't confirmed this theory yet, but if ever this theory comes true, then it'll also become the main key of beating the True Demon King.

But... Then aga--

[....]

"Athan!"

"Huh?!!"

Suddenly, I felt someone nudge my shoulder, removing me from my thoughts.

"You've been staring at me for a couple. Are you okay?"

"N-No. I'm fine. You don't have to worry about it too much."

Hmm... Anyways!! Continuing back to our last topic.

The artifact that was inside my pocket is also the main reason how I survived the fatal incident that happened a week ago.

If it wasn't for the fact that this artifact helped me shield some of the strong shockwaves from the explosion, I would have died or been crippled for the rest of my life... And, I can't allow any of that to happen.

"I'll go get some rest for now."

"Uhh... Y-yeah!"

I stood up from my chair, walked towards the door and left the training ground. Stretching my shoulder up, I let out a long sigh in contempt.

"This again..."

[Synchronizing memory '0.0003742'... Complete]

This is the sixth time I've seen this "Synchronizing memory". The first one is after the when Cossette and I went to the town, then the incident. After the incident, the synchronizing memories now appeared very often.

Honestly, it's a bit annoying because I would suddenly feel like someone battered my head with a bat and so I immediately black-out... You know, the feeling where you were about to be kidnapped, or some sort.

Though, it was thanks to this [Synchronizing memory], I've found out something about those memories.

The memories that came back doesn't always come from the same world.

While I was walking through the hallway, I took a glance at the window just to see a twin-tailed woman sitting alone at the fountain on the front-yard of the mansion.

"Mother?"

I stopped walking after I saw her, and stood at the window to observe what my mother was doing. But... Is it just me, or was she talking to herself.

"What is she doing down... Huh?"

Suddenly, Cossette came out from the door of the mansion as she began walking towards my mother's direction.

After she was only a few meters away from my mother, Cossette stopped. Opening her mouth, she spoke up.

Since I was quite far from them, I couldn't hear what they were talking about. But, from the looks of my mother's expression, Cossette seemed to have said something that made my mother look at her in panic and shock.

I'm really curious.... So, after Cossette finished talking and left, I've made my way towards my mother.

As I was nearing her, I could see that my mother let out a long sigh while massaging her forehead using her left hands.

"Athan?"

With a confused look on her face, she tilted her head and looked at my direction.

"What are you doing here?"

"Ahh..."

Shit... Forgot to make an excuse to say.

With a stiff smile, I cleared my throat and said, "Nothing. I just saw you and Cossette talking to each other." with an affable tone.

My mother opened and closed her mouth a few times before finally, she shook her head and said.

"It's just... Cossette said that she'll be leaving the following week."

"Eh?"

When I heard this, I looked up at the azure blue sky and softly rustling trees on the other side of the fountain.

"I see..."

Although I've already expected that she'll be leaving out but, I was still in shock because I didn't expect that she'll be leaving this soon. Though, I didn't let my expression come out.

Letting out a sigh, I once again faced my mother before finally opening my mouth to speak.

"Mother, I've decided."

Tilting her head in confusion, she said.

"Hmm? Decided what?"

With a firm and amiable tone, I replied.

"I'll become an merchant."

It was now her turn to become shock after I said that.

"Eh?! Didn't you said that you wanted to become an adventurer? Why did you changed your mind now?"

"Ahh... that I'll explain to you in the future."

It's because I needed connections.

Although my mother has so much connections, I still need someone to become my backer like Alicia and Cossette. And for that, I needed to travel alone and meet him. Though, this time I need someone that can protect my family if I'm gone because I'm still doubting the other noble family my mother made connections with if they will show up at the critical moment.

For me, they're not just trustworthy enough.

Speechless, she puffed her lips and pointed her finger at me.

"What do you mean by that!?"

"Calm down, will you? Like I've said before, I'll explain everything to you after I finished. Beside, it's not like I'll be leaving this week like Cossette. I'll probably stay in the mansion for like two years before leaving."

"B-but-"

"No but's, because I've already decided."

"...okay."

She stopped arguing, but the side of her eyes began to show small sign of tears forming.

Honestly, even though I've always wanted to become an Adventurer, if I can't make any connections this early, everything in my plan might fall apart.

'This is really troublesome...'
