Chapter 52: Puck's magic
"Emilia-tan! Are you okay?!" Subaru asked her, after almost getting his hand frozen off from a doorknob to her room.
"Eh? What? Subaru is here too?" She was clearly surprised that he was here. She didn't expect him to be here when normally Subaru and Roswaal didn't spend all that much time together.
"Yes, I'm here! But more importantly, don't you have something else to say?!" Subaru asked with exaggerated movements of his hands, even though she couldn't see him.
"Something to say…? Something to say…? Good morning!" She responded you could even feel the bow she did from her voice alone.
"Hmm, hmm. Properly starting with a greeting, that's a well-behaved girl–That's not it! I'm opening the door! If you're changing, then thank you!" Subaru declared as he opened the door, with a bit more force so he wouldn't need to touch the freezing cold doorknob for long.
And the moment Subaru opened the door, he was hit in the face by a strong cold wind and even some snow. "It's freezing! What is going on here!?" Subaru asked as his face continued to be assaulted by the freezing cold. But all he could see was Emilia standing in front of her bed with hands opened wide, as if covering something, while her room was frozen. Everything in her room seemed to be covered in a layer of ice.
"Y-You shouldn't do that! Barging into someone's room without permission to enter, that's rude! Emilia said.
"If Kaji was here, he would say that Emilia was T-posing and showing her dominance over Subaru," Ram commented, making everyone turn to look at her. Emilia didn't understand what the pink-haired maid was talking about, while Roswaal decided to ignore this and smile.
But after a moment of silence, everyone felt the cold breeze come from behind Emilia. And the moment everyone looked in her direction, she started panicking, while flailing her arms around. She tried to deceive them but it failed as no one believed her, she was just that bad at lying, to begin with.
Before long the group looked at Puck, which was wrapped in a blanket while looking like a potato with a tail. Everyone in the room could feel the coldness that Puck generated.
Meanwhile, Kaji was casting a warmth spell on Meili, who was sitting in the kitchen drinking some hot cocoa. Rem was adding some firewood into the fire, while Meili stopped trembling as much as before. It seemed like the spell did well in keeping one warm.
After making some hot water, and picking up a tray with empty teacups they went to the dining hall where a big fireplace was. As they entered the room, they saw everyone else already here, talking about how Puck was naturally releasing his magic, because of too much magic being generated in his body, without being used up.
Soon they prepared some tea for Roswaal and some hot chocolate for everyone else. Even Beatrice was here, she was explaining to Subaru how magic worked and how some had to release magic, so things like what happened to Puck didn't happen. After all, even now because of Puck's magic discharge the whole mansion was covered in ice.
Kaji, seeing Beatrice with a runny nose, decided to cast the same warmth spell on her too. He just walked behind her and placed his hand on her head, before she could say or do anything he removed his hand. She looked at him, and furrowed her eyebrows, before going back to explaining things to Subaru.
Then Subaru started devising plans, and none of them seemed like a good idea because all of his ideas were shot down by at least one person each time. But then Subaru started asking how others deal with their magic, as he was interested in how someone like Rosawaal dealt with his magic.
It didn't take Subaru all that much time to figure out what to do in the end. Because with Puck's magic, it was possible to make it sown. And With this Subaru declared the beginning of the snow day, where he would invite the villagers to participate, so everyone could have a good time.
He devised a whole competition and even thought of giving the winner a prize. Emilia and Roswaal agreed with his idea as they seemed intrigued by something they have never heard of before, or even tried.
