Chapter 48: Shackles That Hold Us Down.
The whole time Xilo and the Clan Leader were talking he had never said a word and let them have their conversation. That is until he knew what Xilo was after but he still didn't speak up because he figured the Clan Leader would handle such issues but his assumptions ended up swiftly being denied as he watched Xilo walk out the door with nothing blocking his path. The Clan Leader as well also watched on even though he heard his son speak up, he still ignored him. There was nothing he could do about the situation they were in.
"Father are you really going to just let him leave that, you can't be serious!"
"I am serious you saw her strength didn't you?"
"B-but if you went all out.."
Hearing that the Clan Leader let out a deep sigh. It was all he really could do. If he were to really go all out like his son said yes but there might have been a chance he still lost or ended in a draw which would still result in the same outcome just with more after effects and issues to deal with.
"Yes you're right I could of I know, But what if I failed or what if my time ran out and I still couldn't stop them? what then. I can only do such a thing for only a few more times and am I supposed to kill the girl as well if that's even possible? Even if I do win she'll be healed a lot faster then me.
"But.....no you're right. Sorry I just let the fear get the better of me. If that tyrannical woman shows up and he's not here..."
When the Clan Leaders son mentioned that a look of complete and utter fear was plastered all over his face and that was something the Clan Leader could completely understand himself. That woman was terrifying in more ways than one and was something he hoped to never deal with ever again. He had learned his lesson long ago.
"You're right, dealing with her will definitely not be easy but between dealing with her or the boy she is still the easier choice to deal with in the long run."
Maybe if they had never had seals placed on them he could have stopped the boy but that was only a what if in the end. Then again if it wasn't for what he and his clan had done they never would have been in this sort of situation in the first place nor would they be tasked with the mission of watching over him and the others as their punishment. They had been doing it for years on end though so they should be given some leeway for their first mistake he hoped.
"Haaaa. At the very least she might kill some of us in her outrage at least."
"You can never be too sure with her son. Will just have to grin and put up with it when the time comes. Though I do have something up my sleeve if need be so you can relax."
"I hope you're right."
"No more Worrying time to get back to our duties."
With that said his son started to calm down and prepare for Clan duties well he worked on how to wiggle himself out of the situation he was in.
"Damn brat you sure have given me quite a bit to deal with. Though..."
"I guess you can take it as my apology and find whatever you're looking for out there."
With a quiet mutter under his breath he silently began to ponder his and his Clan's future.
A couple minutes later as Xelfia and Xilo were finally walking out of the clan...
The entire time in the Fiery Clan he had been pretty damn nervous about all the possibilities that could have played out with that meeting. Though slightly surprised he was relatively happy with the outcome in the end. He didn't want to have to fight people just yet let alone people from the Fiery Clan that he knew. All he hoped in the end was that it would be as simple as he thought it was.
Though in the end he'd find out.
There was something he had noticed throughout the visit that did bug him a little though. Xelfia had been acting slightly strange the entire time they were there and he didn't know if he was just seeing things or if she was actually acting strange. Which ended up with him struggling to ask her if she was. He just didn't know how to go about such things. What if he was wrong or he made her uncomfortable. The list went on regrettably.
Xelfia was able to settle down a little bit now that had left all those people behind and with that she ended up noticing Xilo acting a bit fidgety with his hands. Which probably meant he had something on his mind. With as long as they had been together she had definitely picked up on some of his habits and the most obvious one was when he was thinking. His hands always kept moving and never stayed still when he was thinking about things he didn't know how to understand or handle. It was quite cute to her honestly.
"What's the matter XIlo?"
Slightly startling him out of his stupor he turned around to look at Xelfia staring at him. "This is my chance!" the whole time he'd been wondering how to bring it up but now a perfect opportunity finally presented itself to him.
"I was just wondering...were you okay at all back there because I thought you were acting a little hmm..how do I put it really, I guess different?"
"In the Clan I'm guessing? Don't worry about it, I was fine."
With that she walked past him to get in front to stop the conversation there and began moving down the hill.
"Hey! Don't get so ahead of me."
When she heard that she finally remembered he wasn't exactly in any condition to be running just yet so she stopped to turn and wait for him.
"Come on. let's get a move on. Where are we headed to next?"
"After a little break we will be heading to the closest City also known as Belturn to look for information and whatnot. It's about a week from here or more depending on circumstances."
With that Xilo finally caught up to her and they began to descend the hill together into Tork.
