Chapter 36: Chapter 36- The Past and Xin’s Progress

She was a tactician of the royal army… yes, unexpectedly a woman had such a high and important position in the army!

This was out of the norm, why?

First of all, with the foundation of the Martial Way, only people with some attainment in the Martial Way were respected. And women were commonly unfit to do that since their strength was inherently weaker than men and with the addition of various reasons, their status was much lower than men.

Of course, if they were noble women their status naturally wasn't as bad, but they still had to deal with arranged marriage if their family wanted to trade them off with some political benefits. Unless they had their own power and influence would they be able to have greater freedom and give a middle finger directly on their faces.

Yes, there were powerful women Liu Guanyi had seen them personally or read about them though it was much rarer than their male counterparts. He had read and seen about powerful queens and noblewomen or even female Martial Masters, though those that reached Martial Masters were truly the rare thing.

However, her background was very intriguing.

She was an orphan. When she was playing around the orphanage she met an official from the empire who chanced to visit the orphanage. He talked with her and was amazed at her ingenuity and decided to enroll her in the royal academy with his help.

After a few years, she graduated from the academy with a prodigious record and was assigned to work in the royal court with the help of her foster father.

Within only a few years, she managed to climb the ladder and finally managed to become the tactician of the royal army!

She was well-known as a kind person who liked to help the children and women. She wanted to rework the system in the society that suppressed the women and the poor.

Though of course, she didn't do it liberally to prevent the outrage from the nobles and those who were benefitted from the system. She knew that it was a long and difficult mission that must be passed to every generation.

As a new person with a great attainment of the Martial Way, Liu Guanyi naturally attracted her attention so she arranged things in advance to have a discussion with him.

They discussed about the various issues of the empire and her ambitions to change that. In short, Liu Guanyi answered that it was extremely hard to change the society to favor the weak.

"You might not understand it, but as a person who has walked the Martial Way so far and with much more life experiences, changing those values and the system is a task harder than ascending the Heaven Piercing Mountain. But I respect your desire to change them." That was what he said to her.

Liu Guanyi respected people who worked hard for their own ambitions no matter what they were, even if they were not in line with his beliefs or were seemingly impossible.

Yes, her desire to change the society and the system was impossible. Even he himself couldn't do it back then let alone a mere "Tactician" in the royal army without any attainment in the Martial Way.

Liu Guanyi was simply stating the facts.

No matter where they were, humans always flocked together and grouped up to the strong. Even after advancing into thinking creatures with higher processing brains, they still hadn't lost their natural instincts.

This was why many people worked under powerful figures and revered them. They trusted their choices and orders than making decisions and thought about them themselves, which in turn gave them more authority and power over them.

This was one of the main reasons why politics stood strong and continued to exist no matter the era and people with great political power were feared even though the person himself might not be that strong or capable.

However, in the Martial Path, this sentiment was nulled.

The Martial Practitioners didn't really care about political powers and all that stuff. They cared more about personal strength and only followed and revered those who had the greatest strength.

Even those nobles and the royal family themselves had to give them proper respect and not meddle too much in the businesses of the Martial World lest they would receive a strong retaliation from the Martial Warriors.

Especially toward someone who had achieved the forefront of the Martial Way. It was simply because they were not just humans like them anymore.

Yes, anyone who had reached that majestic and legendary "Realm" was considered detached from humanity.

They were a whole another different species to humans…

They were "Beyond Humans".

This knowledge and its detail were a secret only a few high-ranked people knew, and in the royal family, only the emperor was privy to this piece of information.

How did Liu Guanyi come to know about this secret?

It was easy to guess. Liu Guanyi was one of those who had reached the forefront of the Martial Path. He was one of the "Beyond Humans". Although it was very rare and hard from the record that he knew, only less than a handful of people managed to break through into that "Realm" in a millennium.

When Liu Guanyi had advanced to the realm, there was nobody except him who was in the realm for a couple hundreds of years.

That was the reason that Liu Guanyi had to tell Xin to change his mindset.

Liu Guanyi touched his head and rubbed it softly. "No need to be so concerned about it. It would only make you think too much about it over and over again and that would make you depressed."

"Instead, focus on the positive sides. Look at you now compared to what you were three years ago, look at how much you have improved."

Hearing his words, Xin fell into deep thought as he pondered his words. He remembered what he was three years ago.

An abandoned child without purpose, only awaiting for his most likely eventual demise in climbing the tower, but now… a good scout and an assassin in the making with two great teammates.

'Why do I always focus on the bad sides? Haven't I earned so much that I feel I don't deserve it from Mr. Liu? Even now he reassures and takes care of me.'

"I should have focused on how I can become more useful and contribute more to the team than just moping in negativity and burdening him.' Xin changed to think more positively and realized some of his mistakes.

He smiled and turned to Liu Guanyi. "Thank you very much for making me realize it, Mr. Liu. I'm always in your debt."

Liu Guanyi patted his back with a kind smile. "Don't worry, we have to take each other. We aren't just teammates after all. We are comrades, so it's natural to help each other." Xin nodded in understanding and smiled at this.

Liu Guanyi offered his hand to Xin and spoke. "Let's go, we have to continue our training. We shouldn't waste more time. After all, we still have a long way to become Rankers or anyone noteworthy."
