Chapter 78: Brotherly Conflict Part 1
Baldur continued to strut forwards, the crowd parting to leave a gap in it for the man to traverse through. Baldur smile somewhat as we waited for him to get to us. Feeling rather bored already I summoned the camping chair from this morning, Illyana quickly joining me as we snuggled whilst waiting. Thor and Loki were shocked at how casual i was and would have normally said something but their eyes refocused on their brother who had now gotten to the intersection of the small town, looking straight at them. They both gulped as the man smiled sagely and started to twirl his glaive in circles as he approached.
"Father preserve me, he's very serious this time isn't he?"
"Don't look at me for answers. Just try and survive, we are mortal now, we can't even take one of those strikes."
I took out a cooked bowl of popcorn and started sharing it with Illyana, the cost of it barely equating to one diamond. We both munched down on the snacks as we waiting in anticipation of the action.
"Lady Emelia, Lady Illyana, could you perhaps stop treating this as if it were some play!? We could seriously die!"
"Yeah what Loki said!"
I laughed and so did Illyana as we continued to munch on popcorn. They seemed to feel saddened by the action as they looked back at their brother with trepidation and nervousness.
"Why would he come to kill you? He is still your brother..."
I thought of Loki trying to kill Thor in the movies i had seen in my past life, the logic not really adding up to what i had just said. It seemed that my words were accepted however as they both somewhat relaxed.
"Thor, Loki... You know i don't like leaving my wife and my cute daughter! You will have to suffer."
They were immediately plunged back into the depths of despair.
"Shit, we did the one thing that has gotten many gods hung on a lamp post by their feet naked. He's way more angry this time, he's probably going to experiment..."
Loki started quickly speaking as he began to quiver a little, the memories obviously bringing back many 'pleasant' images to the forefront of his brain. Thor gulped before slowly advancing forward his resolve coalescing in his movements. Loki looked at him as if he were a madman.
"S-stop it, get back here you fool."
He attempted to whisper it but it echoed throughout the area alongside the sound of popcorn crunching. Loki looked back at us two his eyes pleading us for help. I rolled my Jigenkan' eyes as Illyana merely waved at him slightly. It was at this moment that a van full of various gadgets and widgets appeared, speeding into the intersection before stopping several meters away from where Thor was approaching Baldur.
"Brother Baldur, please stay your hand, it would be beneath you to sully yourself with a fight with mere mortals yes?"
Illyana narrowed her eyes somewhat at the connotations of his words, her grey aura starting to slowly seep out. Feeling that he was already outclassed i started to run my hand through Illyana's hair, attempting to calm her down. It worked. Sometimes i wondered if she does it just to get my affection as much as possible.
'Nah, she just doesn't like being talked down to... Yeah, that was it, nothing else to it.'
Illyana now had a deep smile whilst blushing lightly, her body completely attached to me like a koala to a tree. Loki seemed to calm down when he saw my actions and slightly nodded to me before turning back to his idiotically brave brother.
"Beneath me is it?"
His glaive stopped twirling, resulting in the human audience clapping. Shield was sure taking their time. That was when black SUV's started to appear and started to hustle the people away from the two armoured men. It was at this moment that one of the most badass characters from Marvel appeared, his bald head shining in the sunlight of New Mexico.
"Ahem, is this working, ah it is. Whoever you are please put away your weapons so that we can have a discussion. If you do not comply we will be forced to use lethal force!"
Baldur and Loki ignored the man but Thor quickly waved towards him.
"Please do not worry, we are not here to hurt Midgardians!"
There was a wave of confusion through Shield's ranks as Coulson, the man who had literally blasted Loki with Asgard's own weaponry back in the movies, resumed speaking through the loud speaker.
"Then please tell your friends to drop theirs as well!"
"Someone wishes to disarm me and interrupt me even more, making me potentially miss my daughter's first fight at school!? Go away..."
Baldur waved his glaive in their direction as a white light blistered the space in front of the blade and swept towards the assembled Shield agents. This time i actually interrupted the squabble the space fracturing into fractals of the space we were once in. Baldur gazed around before his eyes met mine, his annoyance completely obvious from his death-stare.
"Will you interrupt as well?"
"No, just making sure you don't kill anyone unnecessarily... Wouldn't do Asgard any good if the Sorceress Supreme starts hunting you all down. You are technically foreign entities to Earth or Midgard as you call it."
"Fine, whatever, Thor you shall be taught a lesson first!"
He did the same sweeping motion towards Thor, who dropped straight to the floor onto his chest before quickly running up to his brother and attempting punch him as hard as he could. As his fist landed his hand dislocated, a strange and jarring popping noise emerging as it happened. Loki winced whilst Baldur laughed a little.
Baldur back handed him, his strength massively more powerful compared to the mortal Thor. Thunder and lightning began to gather in the skies above despite the sealing of his powers.
"You are very skilled at combat little brother but you are useless in thinking things through... Maybe that is why father has cast you out, for your stupidity!"
Loki started coughing in an attempt to camouflage his mirth at his elder brother's words. Me and Illyana had already eaten all of the popcorn so i summoned some chocolate, the sound of crisp snapping noises spreading as we bit into them.
Thor stood up once more his countenance changed as he forcefully took his dislocated hand and shifted it back into place. A sheen of sweat began to appear on his forehead as he looked at the imposing figure of his brother standing above him and in front of him; Baldur is a foot taller than Thor. I could feel some hesitation in Thor as he looked towards me, his resolve slowly gathering.
'No you don't! Don't involve me...'
He began to slowly back off from Baldur. Baldur wouldn't let this happen easily though as he began twirling it again and struck downwards, the tip of the glaive aimed straight towards the centre of his right foot. Knowing that he would do something however Thor quickly jumped backwards and then made his way over to me and Illyana.
"Please aid us against Baldur, we can't defeat him alone and although it pains me to say this, i am not smart enough to contemplate all of the repercussions of this fight if he were to get serious. He is second in power and only loses to father."
As he finished his words the thunder rumbled deeper and louder above the town even in the mirror dimension.
"Maybe instead of my help you need to acknowledge your own mistakes."
"What do you mean? What else do you need me to say? I've come to understand how hard Midgardian's lives are, especially with their lack of strength and immortality, i now understand how good we had it and that i was boorish and ignorant when i committed the acts i had done previously! Is that what you want to hear!?"
His anger was starting to rise as the storm spread across the whole sky, lightning bludgeoning the space of the mirror dimension as after ten seconds Baldur began to catch up to Thor, his glaive swinging down. Thor looked at me pleadingly.
"Gosh you are very silly... Why do you need my help when Mjolnir has acknowledged you? Seriously, solve your own messes sometimes."
It was as the glaive began to come down towards Thor's calf that a portion of the mirror dimension shattered. Mjolnir burst past Loki, almost killing him instantly, and slapped away the glaive in a huge burst that caused several buildings within the dimension to crumble. There was a loud thunderclap as very quickly Mjolnir began to swerve in a wide arc before entering into Thor's right hand. The glaive in Baldur's hands deflected off to the side creating an immensely compact beam of light that put immense pressure on the surrounding dimension, threatening to sear the very space itself.
Feeling the danger i quickly began to utter incantations as various orange and yellow circles appeared and began to reinforce the space, quickly dissipating the residual light energy and restabilising the structure of the dimension. Illyana stared at me as i did this all sitting down, still cuddling beside her. I started to raise us higher than their fighting so that we weren't as affected.
Thor, now equipped in his signature silver and red armour with Mjolnir in his hand stood opposite Baldur, who's armour gleamed with the light of his blast but seconds ago and his glaive shining a bright golden neon colouration.
