Chapter 263: Destruction of the Basilisk
(Skadi's Perspective)
Days Before
Emelia, my wife, had asked me to go handle an enemy that had been so far silent but still lurked inside the internet. I had been burning inside to get back to this location and finally the day had come. I was with Kali and Pixel, they had come with me this time along with Himari and Aurelie.
We had equipped ourselves with the protective malware of Atlantis and had even brought a coded construct within the internet to provide some significant fire power if needed. The protective malware came in the form of power armour and had small glowing lines of runic text that exemplified our wife's power.
"Hey Skadi, do you think that she was cautious for no reason?" Pixel was rather chipper and talkative today as she gets to do something to help out Emelia. She was always like this.
"No, she always has reasons, you know her. She wouldn't send us if she thought it massively dangerous but at the same time she wants to allow us to help her to give us confidence."
"That's tricksy of her..."
"Eh, it is what it is, plus she is a Primordial being... It's hard for her to trust in reality to keep us safe."
The silence extended for a while as we all started to connect to the faint connection at the edge of the internet. Surrounding us was a slowly vanishing tunnel made of green, white and red lights. We were a little nervous about the vanishing code but quickly calmed down as Himari and Aurelie walked forwards unabated by the situation of their environs.
Our walk lasted several minutes as the code and structure of the internet slowly died off. In the distance we could see massive green and yellow structure made of coding and constantly expanding as the internet filled more and more with a higher population. The light was mildly distracting as the blackness of the tunnel started to fill me with a small sense of dread, something new that I had been feeling of late... I would have to get Emelia to explain it to me.
Soon we stood at the edge of a platform leading to an already opened door. Himari and Aurelie easily jumped to the doorway and began to look around inside as me and my sisters ultimately followed, after a moment or so of scouring the void with our eyes. Flashes of light and colour would temporarily flash in the distance but not before subsiding swiftly after the initial burst.
The insides of the vault was empty as I had emptied it a while back, there were no signs of other beings entering or disturbing the area since then so i began to relax. Still there was an even larger door at the end of the vault room that oozed with potential loot, something i was very fond of. Like some of our children usually do, i skipped over to the door and knocked on it. My sisters instantly went silent and alert as they looked at me in frustration.
A low base growl resounded into the room followed by a slithering wetness. There was the faint sounds of metal scrunching as metal grinded against metal. I took out some 'guns' to protect myself as Kali entered into the 'tank' that represented the protective malware we were sent with. Himari and Aurelie Instantly turned their hands into metallic spears as their eyes glowed in the bright sunlight retained in the sun crystals they had absorbed.
The noises continued for a long while but there wasn't any response as the room just lightly vibrated. I had the urge to open up the door but decided to wait for Kali to make a judgement.
"Skadi, open the door, we can't cover the band aid. It's either we end this now or we wait for Emelia." Kali clearly spoke through the 'tank', she seemed to be quite irked by the situation but also determined... She got like this when a situation became inescapable.
I didn't even argue and pressed what some would call, 'The Big Red Button'. I pushed on the door and heard it creaking open as the slithering became louder and louder. I activated my divine domain to resist whatever would come out as Kali and Pixel did the same. But moments after we activated our powers a large meaty dragon head emerged. It was pure black, the same colour as the void of data as only its eyes were crimson red. Its toothy maw moved up and down as blood lightly dripped from it.
In but a moment combat broke out as Kali didn't hesitate. A large explosion rocked the space as a shell from the tank imploded on top of the dragon's head. What was revealed seconds later however was how un-like a dragon the being was. The body of the creature was snake like and long as large fangs extended from its maw and dripped green venom. This wasn't just an entity existing in the data of the internet, no, this was a logic virus. It defied physics and known laws of conversion of energy, whilst being capable of destroying people with but a bite.
Explosions continued to resound into the vault as shrapnel from the code spread into the surrounding walls, becoming particles moments later. Himari quickly stepped around the entity and tried to stab it in the snake body of its form. The being hissed and turned on itself, looking at Himari as its fangs extended, it was unhurt but considered her a nuisance. Using that moment of distraction I pulled on my domains new and old to deliver a massive spike of code-destroying energy. My hit actually managed to dent the side of the creature's face causing the beasty to cry out in pain. Kali pressed forward with the tank and tried to ram the entity as she continued to shoot the shells as quickly as possible. Aurelie snuck up across the belly below the body and stabbed furiously.
The battle went on monotonously for a while until the entity's eyes glowed brightly, red wave flowing outwards into our minds. I was shown the saddest moment of my life, seeing Emelia disappear because of the actions of us, her wives, the idea of her leaving and never coming back sundering into my heart and soul as the mere idea of it drew me towards a place in thought that I would never consider normally. I looked down and saw a blade in my hands, i looked at it and felt a massive urge to turn it on myself, the blade's edge looking comforting. I was slapped across the side of the face as I blinked and was kneeling on the ground with Himari just starting to run to Kali, a smack mark left on my face.
I was pissed. This creature dared to turn my own thoughts and emotions in a past moment to win a battle, whoever had created this creature was a vile and disgusting blob in existence. My power crackled and like a light turning on in a dark room, blue filled the space around me as golden flecks of light slowly drifted down. I willed the power to form arrows and spears as I pointed at the Basilisk-like creature.
"VANQUISH IT!!!" With an almighty screech of power and sound the arrows shot forwards and destroyed several wet and slimy scales on the Basilisk. It shrieked out in pain as moments later Kali awoke and a colossal golden aura with red tint billowed into the entire room before bearing down on the creature, its head dipping in pain as Himari and Aurelie stabbed at its eyes. Pixel was the next to awaken as her powers fully exposed itself and began to eat away at the very existence of the logic virus. Wales of the creature spread into the room as our domains exerted as much force as possible, the creature resisting somewhat was it slammed Himari with its head, her body landing embedded into the vault wall, the void barely being seen through the small cracks. Aurelie started to stab quicker and more brutally as she started to shout out in absolute anger, some new emotion showing from the previously 'artificial' creature.
"DIE!" (Kali)
"Fuck off and die you slimy fuck!" (Pixel)
"Become my stepping stone." (Himari)
"Go fuck off you Jormungandr rip off!" (Skadi)
"For my sister, you snake bastard!" (Aurelie)
With one final attack we all unleashed our attacks. Clawing, stabbing, zapping, shredding, decimating and rending ensued in but a second as its body started to shrivel as its 'blood' seeped into the floor of the room, the venom turning to stone. With a final large crash its skeletal looking body dropped onto the floor as its body started to collapse into itself, a blackhole of sorts sucking it away as a soft cackle entered into the space before disappearing just as quickly.
We all stood there sighing out in exertion and tiredness as our powers were taxed to the maximum. Yet, we still had something to do, so I stood up and walked past the almost non-existent blackhole that was quickly shrinking.
